“Mom why do you do this all the time?” whined Bee as she walked out the door. “Couldn’t you just take me to school instead?”

“I’m sorry sweaty, but mommy has work today,” Zatanna said as she walked Bee to the school bus. “I promise that I’ll be there to pick you up after class. Just promise to not cause any trouble and make some friends.”

“I’ll try,” Bee said with a pouty face. “Don’t worry Bee, I promise you that there are going to be many other students that are just like you. Your mother wouldn’t send you to a normal school. Someone of your talents needs a more specialized education.”

“What are you talking about” asked Bee, but Zatanna just responded with a smile to her question, as she gently pushed Bee inside the bus.

As the bus doors closed Bee found herself a seat. Luckily for her there was no one else is on the bus at the time so she was able to put up a barrier with her backpack on the seat. Hopefully no one would come in and try to ask her to sit with her.

As time went by more and more kids entered the bus. During this time her backpack barrier kept the other kids away, but it would only work for so long.

“Umm, excuse me, can I sit here?” asked a blond-haired girl wearing a cute pink dress. “There’s nowhere else to sit.”

“Okay,” Bee said in a weak voice. Having this random girl come up and talk to her was confusing, but at least she wasn’t a boy. Bee remembered how rowdy she was when she was a boy this age and it only brought back shameful memories.

“Hi, my name’s Mary Louise Dahl, what’s yours?” the girl hand out her hand and waited for Bee to respond.

“I’m Bee Zatara, nice to meet you,” she said slowly as she grabbed Mary’s hand. “Are you starting today as well?”

Bee thought that it would be best to try and start a conversation with this girl. She didn’t look that dangerous and her instincts were telling her to take this chance. Plus her mother will be so amazed if she manages to make a friend today!

“Well duh, today’s the first day of preschool for all of us!” she said back to her with a smile across her face. “So, what is it?” she whispered in Bee’s ear.

“What?” Bee asked back confused.

“Your power silly.” “I, uh, don’t know what you’re talking about?” Bee didn’t know how to react that this girl knew she had powers. Hopefully she would be able to steer the conversation away from this topic.

“It’s fine,” said Mary. “You don’t have to hide it; we all have powers!” “What!?” Bee almost yelled in shock by her statement.

“Wait, did your parents not tell you?” Mary asked with a slightly confused look across her face. “Tell me what?” Bee asked back, trying to remember if Zatanna said anything about the students having powers.

“All my mother said was that this school was for kids like me. She didn’t mention that there were others that have powers as well.”

“It would seem that your mother neglected to tell you about our school,” said Mary with a huge smile across her face since she now had a girl that she could impart her wisdom upon. “Don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about this school so listen up.”
