You weren't the only one, given the slow pace of the anime, this scene took place like 5 real world years after Sabo was introduced in the anime. So like half the comments of people discussing the episode were "OMG it's Sabo" and the other half of the comments were "Who was Sabo again?"

The girl named Koala is the one that Fishertiger saved, right before the Navy cornered and killed him. I find it fiitting she not only knows fish karate, but is part of The Revolutionaries. But yeah, Sabo gunning for Ace's fruit is awesome and as the comment above me said, there were a fair few people who forgot Sabo even existed.

I remember being so teary eyed when I first watched this episode ! There's always been something so sad about Luffy being the last remaining of his brothers, even though he has all his friends. Sabo being back is hella reassuring and I can't wait for you to see how badass he is !!!

Awesome thing: That girl Sabo was talking to, you've seen her before :) She was the girl that fisher tiger and the fishman pirates brought back home to her parents, that used to be a slave of the Celestials.

So, I don’t remember if it ever showed it in the anime, but in the manga just after the time skip, it showed Ace’s grave and you could see the sake cups. It was a great hint at this, because Luffy has never been to Ace’s grave.

It was great to see Koala doing so well with a big smile on her face after such a traumatic childhood.

Fun fact: During the arc where Luffy, Ace, Sabo were kids, there was a tiny, ambiguous hint in one of its last episodes that indicated that Sabo may have actually survived when his little ship was blown up by a celestial dragon. For years after that chapter/episode aired, people were making lots of theories, arguing back and forth like "C'mon that DEFINATELY means that Sabo's alive!" or "Give it up, Sabo's dead". Feels good to be on the right side of that one when we finally saw Sabo alive again ;D

The reintroduction of Sabo and Koala here is so good. Obviously Sabo reuniting with Luffy and inheriting Ace's will is a huge heartwarming moment, but it's nice to see that Koala also inherited Fisher Tiger's will and is fighting for freedom.

Surprised no one had put this yet, but the One Piece author Eiichiro Oda drew a special chapter of What IF Sabo showed up at Marineford and saved Ace. I’m going to link the panels in the bottom. That title sums up my reaction to the end of the last episode. Just couldn't stop squealing "SABOOOOO" like a fangirl. I swear, the three sake brothers are the most chaotic force of nature in the One Piece world. EVERYWHERE they go, shit always hits the fan. They don't even have to be directly responsible, shit just hits the fan out of respect for their chaotic nature.

Koala is such a jerk for asking sabo if he could have saved ace if he was @ marine Ford lol which in reality, 1 person wasn’t going to change the tide of that battle unless shanks showed up at the start lol
