Amazing how Oda can convey a person's suffering with the use of a smile.

Hordy is just repeating what Arlong said and has probably never left the island, so he wouldn't know any better, but why Arlong, who conducted raids outside of Fishman Island never did any research into the strongest people, such as the four emperors, is beyond me. Almost every strong and famous pirate, including Roger, was human. Fishmen being born 10 times stronger is kind of irrelevant. If you judged by that metric, giants would be the strongest by far. Of course giants are extremely formidable, but still, in a world where Haki exists and you can somehow grow stronger and stronger, being born with more physical strength than others and the ability to breathe underwater is not such a big deal unless you make more of it. Maybe Arlong was just wilfully ignorant, it would fit his character. But to suggest directly and aggressively confronting an entire species that far outnumbers your own is pure idiocy when every one of that species has the potential to surpass you.

I don't say you have to forgive Arlorg or forget your hatred towards him, but maybe focus on some other parts of the story too? 😅

I like how Oda stayed true to Arlong’s character for hating humans consistent whether it be a different time or facing anybody. He didn’t give him some justification or reason to suggest that behind those actions, there’s some goodness there to root for, no, some people are just arlongs out there in the real world and they’re evil either born naturally or through the environment, what I’m saying is arlong still should get magma fisted :)

Now... did you imagine that you'd get emotional storytelling like this, back in episode 1 when Luffy first came out of that barrel? Sweet baby Jesus, just realized we're on episode 541 and the anime is getting close to episode 1000. I try not to look at the numbers, now. Feels like every time that I do, I get this fight or flight response.

Alongs purpose in this flashback was never to redeem him. He was always a piece of shit but this flashback gives him a more justified motivation that he just takes to the extreme.

Not that it redeems him in any way, but, even Arlong was shocked when she started cleaning up her blood. If Arlong had been able to stay in the Sun pirates and Tiger lived on, I think Arlong could have eventually changed. It looked like he was starting to show signs of it, but then everything when to hell.

i'll list a few reasons in a future reaction as to why i think arlong isn't as bad imo. Can't do spoilers etc. Don't get me wrong he is no angel haha

I do like that Oda is doubling down on how much Arlong really is a piece of shit. Oda really knows his characters inside and out.
