Akainu is the type who'd burn down an entire village that housed a supposed witch and would call it justice. Sure, the town is gone, but so is the witch. No tactic or scheme is beneath him if it gets what he considers "Justice" fulfilled.

How else do you think One Piece has nearly 1000 episodes, they milk the shit out of everything. Not quite as bad, but it nears DBZ levels at some points.

So, I think this is a good time to mention something about Admiral Akainu. Remember Robin's flashback? During the buster call, both Aokiji and Akainu were there, destroying Robin's island. However, they were both only Vice Admirals at the time. And, while Aokiji was willing to let Robin escape, Akainu actually tricked all the kids by lying to them to get on a "rescue ship." So, that he could eventually sink the ship himself and minimize the possibility of Robin escaping by killing all the children. It's crazy how a seemingly random individual in a flashback could become so important now.

Lets give Squard this much, the Navy did a great job of proving the deal to Squard and he was already distraught before that, he started off thinking that he and his friends/family were dying for the son of a person who murdered his friends/family. Squard had every reason to believe it, was not in a great state of mind and whitebeard didnt even reinforce the back lines.

I'd actually argue that the pacing gets fairly mixed after this episode. This one being an example of it being bad.

Bad translation. Whitebeard isn't "out of shape", he's a sick 72 years old man Ò.ó I guess that automatically means he's out of shape, but still... :| Incidentally, that's one of the win conditions the navy had against Whitebeard: 1. Wait for him to be old and sick 2. Kidnap someone close to him 3. Lure him to Marineford with his allies, where the kidnappee is to be executed. That way, Whitebeard can't unleash his full power without destroying his allies and/or the person he wants to rescue 4. Find the person most likely to be swayed by well-placed words and have him betray and injure Whitebeard It's a bit much, but no one sane would want to face an emperor of the sea without at least this much preparation :D

Everyone's talking about the fighting and the pacing, and I'm sitting here almost at tears from Whitebeard hugging Squard after saying he's a foolish son. For the longest time, Whitebeard was my absolute favorite character because of this moment and the following episodes. Even now, he's tied with Sanji for 2nd with Luffy sitting at the top again. Would love to know where this ACTUAL father of the year sits on your favorite character list.

I honestly think this translation isnt as great as some of the others. I watch on WCO stream. When i watched the Mihawk vs Luffy battle there was a lot more admiration coming from Mihawk than with the VRV translation
