This is one of the few times I really really wish you broke your rule and bundled episodes together, some of the one piece cliffhangers are brutal

He knew he was dying soon, he banished chopper so chopper would not have to be there with him. He knew it was close but went to her to find out how close. This is purely taken from that episode btw, as i can no longer remember this part of one-piece in anything but the broadest of strokes.

I forgot the Quack was the thief in the story. It really is fun rewatching and remembering details like that. Also this might be a stretch but Hiriluk's description of pirates is pretty interesting considering a certain something we see later on in the series

I think you missed it? Not sure lol but Dr. Kureha reveled that Hiriluk was the "master thief" in the story he told Chopper... he saw the cherry blossoms and was "healed".

The translation is bit off. Hiluluk reveals himself to Kureha that he was that "Master thief" who was cured by the miracle sakura blossoms. He says along the line he survived because of that miracle and is certain that it exists.

Also since he knew he was gonna die in a few days, he tried to send Chopper out so that he wouldn't have to see him die

So basically the thing with Hiriluk and the cherry blossoms is that he thinks some illnesses or medical problems are based in emotion and in the mind (fun fact: that can actually happen and why placebos can actually work in some cases). So he's trying to "cure" everyone living in his hopelessly "diseased" country the same way he was "cured" by seeing the beauty of a mountain covered in cherry blossoms. I could be wrong, but that's how I've always thought of it since the first time I watched this episode.
