The battle in this episode is... ok I guess. But the whole 2nd part of the episode once the battle is over was amazing imo, from Aki and Denji bonding over shared nut kicking, too the Angel Devil looking out onto the sunset, to that amazing ED with our fav three having a little slice of life episode (I want an entire Chainsaw Man cour of just those 3 living together and having slice of life shenanigans) and than that post credit scene?!?!? AYO?????????????? WHATS IN THE BOX POCHITA WHATS IN THE BOOOOOXXXXX COME ONNNN WHATS IN THE BOX

Megan

Ahh I’m so sad we only got 12 episodes, though I can’t complain to much with how high quality this adaptation was. Next arc is going to be bomb. Looking forward to watching season 2 with you whenever it releases!

Khalid

Hate to break it to you but this is actually the season 1 finally not a first half lmao Hopefully the wait for season 2 isn’t long

agoodwintv

Felt like a lot more, thinking back to episode 1. They did a lot with just a half season

Amit

Amazing season, next one will be bonkers to

Megan

Yes! I feel like they nailed the pacing

Chris Sharpe

Random sidenote, I like how, despite the how grim this universe can seem at times, it doesn’t take the route of saying that humans are intrinsically selfish or evil. They say they opposite, saying that it is human to be kind and to care. Just a random thought I wanted to get out. Anyways, the “worse” half of the series has finally been adapted. There are rumors that the next arc will be a movie (which makes sense as everything after could make a similar length season). I also hope that the author’s two separate one shots “Look Back” and “Goodbye Eri” get adapted into movies soon. They are masterpieces that will tear your heart in half, likely much like Silent Voice and Your Name. These are not part of Chainsaw Man.

agoodwintv

Yes! Something I wanted to add to my long rant at the end is that it's not just that it covers certain raw elements of humanity but also doesn't judge it

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Now that this hype battle shounen is over... its time you watch Anime of the Year 2022: Bocchi the Rock! Bocchi the Rock is a brand new music slice of life anime that just came out in the Fall season of 2022. Its a 10/10 masterpiece that shows the real struggle of people living with extreme social anxiety, while also being hilarious and wholesome at the same time. Another classic Cute Girls Doing Cute Things anime, but one with fantastic animation quality and great character writing. People will prolly keep asking you to watch it from now on occasionally, but it is pretty niche and less popular cause its slice of life and brand new. It also has a 8.99 score on MAL making it currently the 13th highest rated anime of all time.

iaani

Good to see you're doing better. Probably a week ago already, idk I've lost track of time. Anyway, enjoyed watching along with you. A really creative season 1, they did the manga justice. Also excited for mob s3 :D

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Lol yeah thats why I made this comment although I was gonna say something about Bocchi on here anyways at some point

Mima

chainsaw man has been such a ride. the emotions they managed to pull out of the viewers especially in relation to Himeno's death and Aki's coping has been so phenomenal. We only knew her for a few episodes and yet to me, it feels like it's been much longer. Storytelling in this show is another level of artful. Can't wait for the continuation.....whenever that's coming

Amit

Himeno’s character is so well done and it’s crazy that it’s all done in such a short amount of time. This story as a whole has struck me in a way that only AoT has done.

Khalid

While im sad it’s over I’m glad the reception the anime got is great the show made me love and appreciate characters like himeno who only been in 3 eps and groomed people “god bless her soul” unlike the manga tbh Now the wait for the second half of CSM to be adapted which honestly much much better than the first

Mima

I totally agree! Another side note that I feel like has to be mentioned: Fujimoto sure knows how to write amazing female characters. I was thinking about it the other day like…. Power? she’s completely the antithesis of what the “norm” is in anime. Wild and erratic but still so lovable rather than annoying like they tend to be. Makima??? don’t even get me started the fact people found her creepy and unsettling from the very start of the show…. not many authors craft female characters so delicately. really does make me so happy

Jake White

Massive props and gratitude are owed to everyone involved in this title’s production for the mind boggling amount of time, effort, and pure love they all put into this series as it very clearly shines through. And to Mappa for continuing to pump out absolute banger after banger without fail

Seth

The next seasons will be so much crazier, there will likely be 6 seasons since this season covered the first third of part 1 of the manga

Megan

There’s not enough out of the manga yet to cover 6 seasons lol. Part one of chainsaw man is it’s own contained story and will probably get around 24 more episodes if I had to take a guess. Part 2 of the manga only recently started so there’s not enough out yet to for even 12 episodes. We don’t know yet how long part 2 will be or if there will be a part 3.

Amit

Think it’s closer to 18-20 episodes left for part 1 if they go at current pacing but that could change. Hope they go with 1 long season or two shorter seasons instead of a movie + season

Megan

My favorite thing about Chainsaw Man is it’s character driven narrative and slice of life moments. No matter how crazy the action gets, it’s always tied in thematically with our characters.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Yeah the CGI fest action is by far my least favorite part of Chainsaw Man, it isn’t even that high budget of a show when it comes to action scenes. I love that MAPPA spent most of the production time on animating the slice of life/dialogue based scenes, the backgrounds, character designs, unique ED’s every episode, etc.

bl0odm1st

Another show that I am now current with in the manga since you exposed me to it (first one was Kaguya) 👍🏻

DefaultGoblin

show will get so much better after this. Next 2 arcs especially are amazing

DefaultGoblin

i thought the fight was sick especially on top of the train. The cgi looks amazing

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

@DefaultGoblin It was okay, not bad, not great. I agree the train CGI was really good and I loved the twist at the end with Denji using his legs. Overall tho, the CGI action scenes in this show just don’t look good at all. Demon Slayer/Arcane CGI is leaps and bounds above what MAPPA do in this show and AoT. In general, I much prefer traditional 2D sakuga based action that studios like Pierrot and Bones specialize in, or Kyoto Animation but they barely do any action. MAPPA spent all the 2D sakuga budget for this show on the slice of life stuff and background art, which I honestly think was a great decision.

DefaultGoblin

i think saying they dont look good at all is a bit of a goofy take, but yeah i will admit sometimes it doesnt look amazing.

Nick

They haven't announced a cour 2 for S1 yet... surely it'll happen... surely... I'm definitely not going through the stages of grief

Nick

I think a second season would likely adapt the rest of part 1, but it depends on what smaller cuts they make like with the muscle devil from this season being cut. I'm wondering if they're going to make a movie to adapt this upcoming arc, so we'll see about that. They honestly didn't cut very much out from the manga in this season But yeah if it's a season 2, I think they can comfortably get through the rest of part 1 considering the pacing of events in the manga

Nick

I have never been more excited for an adaptation than I am for the upcoming arcs

macrowave

"Well Uvo, can you hear it? We dedicate this requiem to you"

_ scüp

Small detail you probably forgot, "The City Mouse and the Country Mouse" is also the book Aki's parents were reading to his little brother

Seth

@megan The first part will be 3 seasons judging by the pacing, if part two is about the same length with will also be 3 seasons. So 6 seasons is likely. It hard to imagine it going for part 3 given how much happened in just part 1

DefaultGoblin

btw what ending was your favorite

Jake White

“Jasmine Tea Enjoyer” seems like quite a misleading name for someone who comes in here with such controversial and arguable takes so frequently lol. Mappa was literally built from the ground up 10 years ago as a hybridized 2D/CG combination studio ever since, and the uncanny amount of detail put into the genuine realistic human motion and weight and momentum throughout the action scenes in this series clearly show that to anyone with actual animation experience or even time spent listening to/watching professionals

DefaultGoblin

honestly for me ending 11 is my favorite. No idea why something just clicks with me, and its the only one i see people not really liking. All of the endings are really good though.

Jake White

Idk about actual favorite but I will say that 11s probably the catchiest and stuck with me the hardest. That “VI-O-LENSSS” cadence gets stuck in my head at least 3-4 times a day lol

AlexXis Amadeus

My gosh dude, everything you said at the end of the video regarding Denji's character development is so damn on-point. By the end of the Story, you'll get to see such an amazingly deep-cut character study, the making of a man in the truest sense Just you wait.

bl0odm1st

Also looking forward to more To Your Eternity & Dragon Prince ;)

Chris Sharpe

If they pull a Mugen Train and make the next arc a movie, the rest of part 1 can be made into another 12-13 episode season.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

@Jake CGI action without absurd budgets like Demon Slayer and Arcane look like trash... cope harder. I know you can't handle someone having hot takes about your favorite little anime but guess what, just because you watched 10 hours of video essays on youtube of why Chainsaw Man's CGI should be considered humanities greatest achievement doesn't make you right and me wrong. Thanks for the MAPPA history lesson tho, I definitely had no idea they were setup as a 2D/CG hybrid studio... that automatically means that all of their CG animation must be incredible, perfect and amazing than!

Christo Badenhorst

Its rare for me to go read manga... but this show I could not stop myself... And that tease at the end.. Yes its definitly a marvel tease.... and that arc will have amazing charachters and its going to be tearfull.. I dont get sad and I got this fucking knob in my throat reading that manga and I just know its going to be a huge tear jerkin season

Jake White

Even bringing up Demon Slayer’s cg shows you really clearly don’t know what you are talking about. UFOtable has incredible environmental effects and natural element effects (fire, water, etc.) but their overall CG usage is barely above average at best. Any first year animator with the bare minimum amount of time and effort could slap together those tentacles from the Mugen Train arc. But hey, throwing out a bunch of zingers makes a comment feel better right? (Might wanna save saying cornball stuff like “cope harder” for when you’re actually making a point with any valid defenses 🤷‍♂️)

Jake White

Not to mention Demon Slayer and Arcane are both hyper stylized, ‘cartoon-esque’ worlds with little to no realism, as far as their visual languages go. (Usually super dark or hyper bright backgrounds, vibrant standout colors, enormous colorful eyes and comic book proportions on character models, etc.) Which is not a bad thing don’t get me wrong. But it does mean that any hybridization or CG integration is inherently magnitudes simpler and less complex than a similar amount of work being done on a more realistically styled show like CSM (more natural human forms, realistically semi-grey color palette, real modern landscapes and locations used, etc.) Like the difference is basically someone running a really fast 100m dash on a track, versus someone running a really fast marathon in a desert. Yeah they’re both impressive, but one took a fuckkkk load more to do than the other

Jabez Katsak

@Jasmine Tea Enjoyer what are you talking about? The cgi in CSM is easily better than Demon Slayers cgi, and I feel like you can’t compare Arcane’s cgi to CSM, not because one is bad and the other is good, but because they are completely different.

Jake White

Right, Arcane is a fully CG series from the ground up with interspersed 2D artwork layered over some scenery and characters for depth. CSM is a fully hybridized series with mostly CG character models, mixtures between fully 2D backgrounds and heavily layered 2.5D artificial environments, etc. They are entirely different creations from every angle

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

This is all really epic and cool information, doesn't change the fact that we are literally talking about drawings, paintings, art, colors, its purely SUBJECTIVE. So yeah, climb out under the rock you live under and accept that other people don't like CGI in their animated shows, there are people who won't even watch Demon Slayer despite how good it looks just because there is a lot of CGI in it. Chainsaw Man action is MID but ya'll can keep coping cause its your fav anime and fav manga... Studio WIT AoT, Bones FMAB, MHA, MP100, Pierrot Bleach, there are endless examples of recent battle shounen series that absoutely WASH Chainsaw Man when it comes to action scene quality, even Jujutsu Kaisen by the same studio looks way better.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

@Jake White Demon Slayer has little to no realism? Have you even watched Demon Slayer? It literally takes place in Taisho era Japan, and they go to great lengths to make sure all the architecture, clothing of civilians, food, city backgrounds, are all accurate and look real to that historical setting. They legit drew real buildings that actually existed at the time one to one in Toyko during some of the earlier Demon Slayer episodes.

Jake White

Yeah you kinda just keep demonstrating the fact that you have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about tbh lol. Most of the animators that worked on producing CSM are freelance artists that literally worked on nearly every single one of those other titles you mentioned lmao. No one here is arguing about the subjectivity of art or saying that not liking CG is unallowed or anything lol. You spoke in confident certainties about this show’s CG being “mid” and that shows like Demon Slayer are “leaps and bounds” above it, and I’m simply telling you that those statements are just genuinely incorrect. Not a matter of opinion. If you’d have laid it out as “I personally like the way X series looks more than I do this one,” then I wouldn’t have even commented at all. But you spoke using absolutes about something that you are not educated on or experienced in, so that’s why I simply tried breaking down why those points you brought up were wrong. And ngl the way you keep throwing out wild assumptions (live under a rock about people not liking cgi, never once said anything about this being my favorite anime and I’ve never read the manga, etc.) coupled with how you keep resorting to “cope harder” comes off as mad defensive about something as silly as a single incorrect take or poor word choice

Jake White

That’s not the point that I was getting at, I was clearly speaking about the visual styling. The way characters are cartoonishly styled, the way that almost all frames are either set on black backgrounds or have incredibly vibrant and stand out colors that are artistic but don’t match reality. Thought I was pretty clear in laying that out already but if it wasn’t clear enough before, then that’s my fault sorry

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Also by actually thinking that Chainsaw Man as a show looks better visually than shows like Demon Slayer, you are demonstrating the fact you have the absolute worst taste in art and should probably seek viewing new things in order to open your mind to what real and truly good looking animation looks like. Hopefully one day your eyes and brains will figure it out.

Jake White

And there you go again with the ridiculous defensive assumptions lmao. You know absolutely nothing about me yet instead of responding to the actual points I’ve made and trying to dispute or discuss them at all, just leap to “you’re probably sad and insecure and have no friends and no experience and unsuccessful cause I’m right 😎” lol. I said what I came to say, I’m not here for high school locker room back and forths

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Yeah the only thing you're here for is to make yourself feel high and mighty, which is proven by the fact your first reply here is stating that my opinion on animation quality is wrong because professional animators and people who sit on their couch and listen to professional animators talk disagree with my Chainsaw Man take. I don't think you could've come off as more defensive and ridiculous right off the bat.

oerwhat

Still got my fingers crossed for HxH reactions after haikyuu

Athena

I appreciate any uploads you give us :) Glad to see how much you enjoyed this series so far. I believe that the hype for this show was justified as I am so close to picking up the manga just to read ahead, but I also feel like I want to experience this masterpiece as an anime only and then go in for the manga later on. Super excited for the future of this show!

Momo

whens made in abyss

Ruma Risto

I generally enjoyed the show quite a bit but yeah... the loli fanservice was super awkward.

Jabez Katsak

Huh? Chainsaw man looks WAY better than Demon slayer, what are you talking about?

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

@Jabez You are blind if you think this show has better animation than Season Two of Demon Slayer. Not even close to comparable.

Jabez Katsak

EVERY SINGLE SCENE in Chainsaw Man has so much care and attention in them where as in Demon slayer, all the good animation was put into the fights and it’s just a still image with the mouth moving in the conversations. Yes, the finale battle between Tengen and Gyutaro is one of the best looking fights of all time but overall, Chainsaw man is way better.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Lol you gotta rewatch Demon Slayer buddy, every scene looks just as good if not better than Chainsaw Man... ufotable are incredible and much more consistent and high budget than MAPPA are. The background art is fantastic and no its not just a still image when the characters are talking, you just don't remember the show.

Jabez Katsak

Ufotable’s compositing is really what makes Demon Slayer shine. Their compositing brings their 2D animation from A tier to S tier and also brings their 3D animation to A tier (a low A tier to be exact) while Mappa’s composting is not that good (except for Chainsaw man which has great compositing) but their CGI has been AMAZING with shows like Dorohedoro and AOT Which all cultivated into Chainsaw man, their 2D and 3D mixing is literal perfection.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Well imo both ufotable and mappa get beat by studios like Bones and Kyoto Animation who (and also older animated shows from Gainax and Sunrise like Cowboy Bepop and Evangelion) rely almost entirely on 2D Sakuga animation and traditional animation techniques. I just prefer the old school pure hand drawn style, even though it takes so much more work to that, I think its worth it and I wish these big budget action shounen shows went that route instead of a CGI fest. For me, I feel Demon Slayer's CGI is way better than MAPPA's in both AOT and Chainsaw Man because I forgot that I am looking at CGI while watching Demon Slayer. In Mappa shows, its so clear and obvious what is and isn't CGI in the frame due to the way they composite it, but in Demon Slayer I forget I am looking at CGI due to it blending in with all the incredible 2D animation so well, and Demon Slayer by the way has WAY more 2D Sakuga animation than Chainsaw Man or AoT S4 does... like WAY more... so yeah Demon Slayer washes all MAPPA shows when it comes to quality of animation, not even close. MAPPA are overhyped as hell, Studio WIT Attack on Titan looked so much better in every single way than MAPPA's Attack on Titan.

Jabez Katsak

I feel like having shows that are CGI fests are good for the anime industry even if the CGI isn’t good in the end because animators will get better at CGI and more used to it because let’s be honest, the future of anime will require CGI so it’s good that the industry acknowledges that and is trying to get better at it.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

im sorry but i couldnt disagree more with this take, i feel the exact opposite. I would prefer if the anime industry used less and less CGI and instead focused its already limited time and resources into traditional 2D old school sakuga animation which looks so so much better than CGI and will never be beaten by CGI no matter how good it gets, this has already been proven with Avatar and Avatar 2 where CGI will literally never get better than those movies and still Live Action traditionally shot movies look better. Studio Ghibli masterpieces drawn by Miyazaki entirely in 2D animation will always look better than CGI, no matter how good they get at doing CGI.

Jabez Katsak

If you think that, than you should know that all of the fights in Demon Slayer season 2 has a shit ton of CGI and the only 2D parts are the foreground animation (characters) and sometimes the effects animation (but rarely). You can easily notice that they use a lot of CGI but it’s still very good CGI even if it’s easily noticable. Edit: and also it’s nearly impossible for everything to be in 2D since backround animation in 2D is EXTREMELY difficult and only veteran animators can do it really well. So saying that the future of anime requires CGI is not a take, I believe it is a fact. Which is why I like that the anime industry is trying to get better at it.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

its not a fact at all... anime has been doing just fine without CGI for decades... believe me. As long as people can draw key frames and Sakuga the inbetween shots, it will look amazing. Sure, good CGI is fun but it will never look better than traditional 2D animation, so no the future of anime should be more 2D and not more 3D.

Jabez Katsak

CGI ain’t replacing 2D, they are both different art forms. Just like there’s good 2D animation and bad 2D animation, there’s good CGI and bad CGI. And yes, the future of anime definitely requires CGI. If you want to know more, I recommend watching this video about CGI: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fb6M-TfDVww

2023-01-20 11:39:54 Now that I'm rewatching here, the cigarette thing and this last episode make me think about Aki's character & that last memory of Himeno. Before, Himeno was worried Aki would die because he still had a big heart for other people. And in general he's a pretty tight-laced follow the rules kind of guy. In it's way, Aki is still just a immature as Denji. Himeno said she would give the cigarette back once he was an adult. I think it was in it's way showing that he finally hit a level of maturity. He's definitely a little more unhinged/crazy (as the teacher would put it), and he's friendly enough with Denji to kick nuts for self gratification. Makima kind of hinted at it in earlier episodes asking if Denji was rubbing off on Aki. Which Aki sort of needed. In that last scene of him smoking the cigarette from Himeno kind of marks his character growing up into it's 'final form' so to speak. He's an adult & finally smoking that cigarette. (Just my own thoughts. I could be entirely wrong!)

guess someone doesn't like made in abyss

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

its not that i dont like it, i couldnt start watching it because ive seen scenes from it where literal pre-pubescent loli characters get tortured while naked not my type of show i guess *shrugs*

It makes sense that some people would avoid this show for that reason. And honestly, it is probably a good thing that you can notice morally incorrect problems with the show. I just find it interesting that you get very annoyed that others enjoy the show for the other appealing aspects. I believe I speak for most people when I say, the allure of the depths and unknown are what draw me in. Which is what the series tackles, mysteries of the abyss, and how people react to it. It's an incredible series with twists and turns, moral and ethical questions, and most importantly commentary on the unknown. So if someone can move past these questionable scenes it is worth a watch. Although it isn't for everyone, and I understand not being comfortable watching Made in Abyss.
