This definitely felt like a two-parter, so I want to post episode 16 too in a little while

Date Tech's chant always gets me. Gotta cheer for the team with the best chant. GO GO LET'S GO LET'S GO DATE KO!!!

Etsch

The intro to the best chant in the show. "Go go let's go let's go Dateko!"

Athena

It's Oikawa yawning at everyone except for Hinata and Kageyama's attack for me.

I finished Haikyuu, both the anime and manga…. One of the greatest series I’ve ever seen, very close to the S tier anime and manga I’ve seen, like AOT, One Piece, Berserk, HxH, Chainsaw Man, and FMAB. I love this series so damn much.

Chris Sharpe

I love how there are people on the volleyball teams (Karasuno included) who try to act like anime rivals/antagonists and their teammates chastise them like “why tf you always doing that?”

Marko

Great to see you back, great reaction

@Chris May I introduce to you... the tens of thousands of anime that exist out there that aren't atypical mainstream popular battle shounen's? Don't get me wrong I love me some classic shounen (AoT, JJK, Demon Slayer and FMAB are all amazing to masterful) but Seinen, Shoujo, Mecha/Sci-Fi, Avant Garde, Slice of Life, the list goes on and on for all the different types of anime out there that have as good if not better quality collections of anime within their respective genres.

Chris Sharpe

Yes, I know. I’m just a bit newer to anime. Literally today I carefully combed through the top lists in MAL to get a list of manga and anime to read. I am currently reading Nana, a very good Shojo/Josei manga. I plan to read others as well now that I am done with One Piece. For a while, I just watched the shows that Goodwin did reactions to and some I heard of/was recommended. I also watch TV at a very slow rate.

Jasmine Tea Enjoyer

Nice. I'm also pretty new to anime so I'm making my way through must watch stuff as much as I can while also trying to watch stuff Goodwin is doing reactions too. I have heard really good things about Nana. I'm also always spending time going through MAL looking for new stuff, my plan to watch is an endless list anime. I don't really read manga very often.

Chris Sharpe

@Jasmine Yeah, the top manga in MAL are very different from the top anime, lots of Seinen and Slice of Life. I’m watching March Comes Like a Lion and Bocchi the Rock, which are deeply relatable and personal to me. I also freaking adore Fruits Basket. I really hope to get into those. Those top shows I mentioned just left a bigger mark on me.

A few language nerd comments: - The show pretty faithfully recreates the actual Sendai City gymnasium, from the look of the outside to the hallways, to the weird face sculpture in the lobby. It's become something of a "pilgrimage site" for volleyball fans in Japan now. You can see the side-by-side here: https://miyabi-room.hatenablog.com/entry/2020/10/24/212310 - 6:22 Noya's shirt is, of course, a yojijukugo: 海千山千, 'umi-sen-yama-sen,' or "sea-1000-mountains-1000," which is from the legend of how Chinese dragons spend a thousand years in the ocean as sea snakes, and then a thousand years in the mountains as lizards, before finally taking their final form in the sky. Calling someone 'umisenyamasen no hito' is a compliment, saying they're genuinely wise from having experienced the world. So far, I think it's the one that Goodwin would best go with, but I think you need a personality like Noya's to pull it off yourself. - 7:00 Students in Japan really do spend most of the tournaments gossiping about other people in a voice that other people can here. I never understood that custom--audibly gossiping about people who are within earshot--but it's a thing. - Karasuno's banner, 飛べ, means "fly," but there'll be word play throughout the show since "fly" and "jump" are pronounced the same way in Japanese ('tobe' in this case, or at the end of the episode, the guy says "tonda," which could be either "he took flight" or "he (really) jumped," but I'm assuming they said 'flew' in the subtitles because the manga clarified which one it was)

@Chris Interesting, hopefully you find some Seinen or Slice of Life that will hit as hard as those mainstream battle shounen's one day. I'm also watching March for the first time and its AMAZING. And I just finished Bocchi the Rock and its one of my all time fav shows ever made, 10/10 masterpiece, top 10 anime of all time.

Chris Sharpe

@Jasmine Yeah, I hope so too. It’ll probably take years for me to get through my list, but it’ll be great.
