Hey, in case anyone's forgotten since the massacre scene, Askeladd is a Bad Person.

Also, about your thoughts on Askeladd, it's interesting to hear your perspective at this stage. Here's just my view on him. Without spoiling anything, I feel like he's more of a go with the flow kinda person. It obviously doesn't hurt that he's super charismatic, intelligent and a great leader, but he's too afraid to carry out his actual goals without someone to lean on to. Before Canute, he was just going along with orders and living life to satisfy himself and his men. But after Canute, on my assumption, he sees him as someone he can use/make into his ideal leader to achieve his actual goal(as with Thors, previously). He's too afraid to take on that role, it seems and is waiting for someone else he can pass on that responsibility to, maybe because he has a cynical view of himself and doesn't see himself as worthy of making change? Or just a bit of a coward? I'm sure he's self aware and has a broader perspective about the world from everything we've heard from him, yet he doesn't really change his actions himself. I apologize if it's confusing, it's really hard for me to articulate this properly 😂

Oh shit we here already? o.o (frick its never in the same episode i keep forgetting) "His eyelashes are beautiful" its the only time i've not been overly annoyed that they are the same color as his hair in most other anime they are a different color entirely and it just throws me off so hard OR its like the edges are \red\ and their hair isn't red so its like W H Y?! what's the point its so distracting dfhgxldfhgbdfhg

Just wanted to point out, even though we never quite got to see him in action on screen: Ragnar had to have been absolutely NASTY on the battlefield in his prime for Askeladd to have treated his assassination plan so seriously. Considering how quickly Ragnar reacted and had his sword immediately ready both in the smoke of the forest fire from episode 11 and right before he got stabbed in the back, in addition to the fact that Askeladd legit didn’t feel comfortable setting up his assassination with any less than 7 men (including himself) surrounding him and lying in wait with traps, I can’t help but wonder how strong he actually was in his prime.

Yeah that feeling comes across in a couple scenes. It adds something important I think knowing that there's another side to him

Jake White

Absolutely. It almost paints him in a sort of Thors colored light knowing that he too was once a great warrior who gave up his life of battle to take care of someone he loved dearly and considered family.

Omg yesterday I saw that reels on ig about 2 types of religion lol, I am not religious at all but I still estracted and liked ideas of focusing on everything small around you and kinda becoming aware of everything step by step. And other thing as well to allign with greater good in that case God for me personaly it is like allign with any great thing and strive for it.

I think one of the best things this show does is slowly peel back characters. At first you assume they’ll be the generic archetype. Askeladd is the charismatic villain, Thorkell is the lovable brute, Canute is the shy teen while Thorfinn is the angsty one. Then, bit by bit, the show slowly begins to peel them back. And they’re always evolving. As you said yourself, episode 14 was a turning point. It’s really where the show shifts to a character focus as now they’ve finally set enough groundwork to really dig in deep. I was so pleasantly surprised to find out this anime wasn’t just another gore and fighting show. It’s so much more.

Another father off Askeladds list

Based on how Canute responded to the priest I feel like he knows somewhere inside that his father plans to get rid of him but he’s in denial about it.

“On the plus side, Canute may be gone, but at least we have a woman to feed us steak,” “Whoever is employed as a horn maker must. make. a. killing. The richest man in the land,” “People who are aiming at terrible things can feel the same kind of connectedness and greatness and grandness that people experience when they strive for the best things,” “Doubt. Big doubt from Canute. He’s the most afraid of all,” “Not all men carry swords. Some just pack lunch boxes. A lot of lunch boxes,” “Communal piss. Piss bros,” “Nothing good can come of Thorkell planning,” “Thorfinn’s diet consists mainly of rabbits and loneliness,” “His eyelashes. are so beautiful,” (the blond men simpage continues) “You can’t have any happy moments in anime. Never, never,” “Didn’t realize I liked Ragnar that much until he died,” “It was so clear from the beginning that Ragnar’s fatal flaw was love,”
