My fellow patrons, it's time to cry again

Francesca White

i love that Yuki is such a strong male character, but he's allowed to cry. a lot of times crying is seen as weakness, but Yuki is one of the strongest guys out there and he's crying all the time! more crying guy representation in media i say!!

raesh

Yuki!!😭😭

raesh

Only in Fruba...Hugs matter more than kisses!!🤗🤗🤗

What Ayame says is "there is no need to fear red light, if we all cross together"

Megan

The end of this episode really had me tearing up. Kyoko’s speech is just too good.

Francesca White

Shigure and Akito really are the horniest fruits basket couple lmao, Akito was really giving a whole speech about wanting to invade Shigure's bones lmaooo

Megan

Kyo, Kyoko, and Tohru’s character arc’s all merge and come full circle in such a satisfying way. Just amazing writing

Crystalrose

I agree with what you said about Shigure around the 19/20 min mark.. i think he does have some good intentions (or is values a better word?) but that will never be above his own desires and he's always going to be open about it. In regards to his character arc.. honestly i have no idea.. i feel like every time i watch/read this story i learn something new about him but i still cant pin point him. I think that analogy at the very beginning of the show about him being an ocean wave or a ripple on the water was so spot on.

raesh

Kyoko's last words...always makes me cry!!😭

benj

Shigure and Akito are truly obsessed with each other, they both want to consume the one they love. I love the way Akito describes her feelings towards Shigure. I think it's actually super uncommon in anime to watch a woman explain extremely raw, sensual emotions without aiming to entertain a male audience. The writing in this show is just too good sometimes.

benj

This comment hits different for me right now cause I was chatting with a coworker casually recently about anime for the first time as I discovered he watched some and when Attack on Titan got brought up he INSTANTLY said "God I just hate Eren so much he's such a crybaby whining bitch, dude needs to stop being a crying little pussy" etc. etc. stuff along those lines and I just found that totally hilarious. Compared to other shows I watch like FruBa for instance, where male characters are out here tearing up and crying all the time (which is totally normal and natural) and I find 0 issue with it. I hear the crybaby critque towards male characters a lot from toxic anime fans, there were people here on MHA vids calling Deku a crybaby and awful protaganist because he cries so much.

Tears Basket indeed!! Sheeesh...

Francesca White

i'll actually have something to say about his character arc but it won't be until next episode! but yes, he really is a ripple on the water, you can never grab onto him

benj

Lol I love the reactions from all the girls in the background to Yuki and Machi’s big time moment, blushing and staring. This anime does that a lot actually where it understands people in public would notice these types of romantic things, like how those kids followed Haru when he was carrying Rin.

Francesca White

yeah, the series is actually very surprisingly sex positive. there's this REALLY weird (and frankly creepy) cultural idea, especially in Japan, that women shouldn't be outwardly sexual. because of this, when a show WANTS sexual elements, the fanservice is always some non-consensual thing happening to the female character (someone accidentally grabs her boob, her underwear shows by accident, etc). the result is this super weird shit where the girls never want sexual acts to happen but they're constantly put into sexual situations. the great thing about Fruits Basket is that the female characters are allowed to just WANT to be sexual, whether that be Rin with Haru, Akito with Shigure, or even Tohru with Kyo (though the Tohru and Kyo stuff isn't shown, the author has talked about them having sex before and drawn somewhat spicy pics of them)

Geneva The Weeba

Akito out here quoting erotic fanfiction word for word i swear

Megan

Akito looks very pretty with her new make-up and outfit nothing will top that black shirt in season 1 for me.

I'm so glad that Kyo and Tohru can be happy but it breaks my heart that Kyo wont ever know for sure what Kyoko was trying to say to him

Kingsley

I was drinking wine during your "lip touch" rant and immediately snort laughed and got wine everywhere, my god. I was not expecting this harsh-yet-accurate critique of bishounen romantic gestures today, haha.

Brimmy

no words just warm fuzzies :3

raesh

I love that Shigure complimented Akito...this was the first time she dressed up as a woman make up and all....after living her whole life hiding her femininity....that compliment puts him in my good books!! Plus I can't hate shigure ..cos of another character we meet in Fruits Basket Another...I don't know if it gets anime adaptation or not..but I highly recommend the manga ...its only 4 volumes..so short and sweet..4th vol is coming out this February along with the movie OVA😊😊😊

"Tears Basket" EXACTLY. I wonder if the prequel will hit as hard without that touch of the supernatural to make it feel that much more desperate and epic. And dodgy teacher/student relationship aside I do enjoy J. Michael Tatum as a romantic lead so I'll definitely give it at least a one-episode peek.

agoodwintv

I was thinking the same! I think I even commented on her looks at the time, which is not something I do much I don't think.

Trey Goldsworthy

Man Kyoko's final words is one of the moments of any series that made me cry the hardest, it makes me think about what my parents would think in they're final moments, and what I would think in my final moments with my loved ones and if I become a father and leave my kids behind prematurely. And what I would think of my whole life, my mistakes, my regrets, my loved ones and my hopes, and whether or not I would accept or not accept or death or be afraid of it or not when it comes whether it's in 80 years or tomorrow. But I'm just happy for Kyoko that her legacy will be there for her daughter and everyone she's impacted and will impact, and being reunited with the love of her life and getting his approval and permission to now let her spirit be at peace for eternity.

agoodwintv

I really liked the Kyoko epilogue and am grateful we got that perspective and what was a really touching scene. But I also think it would have worked if we had just never found out. I think that would put the audience in the same shoes as the characters, and then it would come down to placing faith in her mom's good nature, which is what Tohru so resolutely decided to do.

agoodwintv

It's also a critique of my life, for having never had anyone touch my lips like that.

Nick

Akito visited ao3 and decided she found a new faith to believe in

Kimberly Oblinger

I hope you react to the ova about how tohru’s parents met that is coming out next month. It seems to show some future stuff between Tohru and kyo as well.

Mortis

That Kyoko scene never fails to bring me to tears. I’ve watched it dozens of times and I still sob every time. It’s starts as a gradual build up and then turns to the full on sob when Kyoko says “protect my baby girl” fruits basket never fails to stab you right in the heart with feels

Mortis

It comes out in Japanese theaters next month we have no date of when it will come to American theaters or streaming sites.

ArmdVctr

I'd like to think that young maid who introduced Akito this episode is the same one Kureno caught. I'd like to think she'd become the new head made in the future under the new Akito.

Geneva The Weeba

How has this happened that we only have 1 episode of FB left? TYE has another season coming out, MHA will have a few more. AoT is still airing. I was absolutely ecstatic to find out that Goodwin was reacting to FB because 1. It's my favorite anime, and 2. I never thought he would. AND THERE'S ONLY ONE MORE EPISODE AND THEN WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE MOVIE

BotheredAsh

No no, I'm not crying, there's just some dust in my eyes... no I'm totally crying, ugh, I'm such a mess.

Anonymous

Ah...with the movie coming next month, this last scene hit even harder. Can't wait for people to discover their story, why the beach is so important. Kyoko saying goodbye was the last chapter before the last chapter in the manga. Never miss to make me cry. The scene with Yuki was beautiful in the anime. The bond breaking, the rat finally being freed... I love how hug are so important in the series, way more then kiss will ever be. It's that physical conection they desperately need. What they've been missing for so long... I want to point out the way that Akito speaks about Shigure, wanting to embrace his whole body. It's the same as Isuzu speaking about her need for Haru. So these two have more in commun than they may think. And it will be hard for Isuzu to even think of forgetting Akito for what she's done. But Akito is moving forward, looking for atonement. I want to see the kind of person she'll become. Just like how Tohru is changing before our eyes.

jdthebud

If nothing else, Shigure is definitely one of the most interesting characters in this show...really makes you think.

Athena

I just love the whole conversation with Kyo and Tohru. We see how much they've matured and become good people for each other and most importantly, themselves. Kyo is so understanding and kind to Tohru and Tohru is stubborn and supportive of Kyo. Again, my eyes are red and puffy from sobbing but I just love love.

ArmdVctr

Fruits Basket really bucks a lot of Shoujo manga tropes.

Anonymous

Every episode of the last season is just a game of “can I get through this episode without sobbing” and I lose every time

Anonymous

Tohru finally speaking like herself and being extremely honest about her feelings and I am here for it. I'm not usually a crier, but when Kyo talks to Kyoko's grave I can't help it.

cosmotron

It’s a small thing but I really love Machi giving Yuki a gift for Tohru. It’s such a great contrast to things like the Yuki fan club, full of girls who claim to love Yuki but are so intensely jealous of the relationship he has with Tohru. Rather than resenting Tohru, Machi is happy that she gave Yuki happiness and it shows how much more thoughtful and true her love is.

This was one of my favorite episodes it has so many beautiful words and truths. “Leaving feels just as bad as being left” like damnnnn stopppp my emotions can’t take this!

BirthdayParty

With Shigure's advice, I don't think there was much of an ulterior motive behind it. Shigure's selfish, sure, but that doesn't mean he's selfish 100% of the time. That doesn't mean his every action is calculated and manipulative. If he set his mind to it, he probably could live that way, sure. But his interactions and relationship with Hatori and Ayame kinda prove to me, in a way, that Shigure isn't just desire and falsehoods wrapped up in a smile. If he was just a manipulative jerk, I don't think he would be as interesting as a character. I think he genuinely cares about Tohru, Hatori, Ayame and Akito.
