Never would’ve predicted that MHA would give us a full on redemption arc about an abusive parent, told from his perspective, that results in him voluntarily leaving his family in order to atone. Pretty amazing stuff ngl.

Yes!!! Been waiting for this one! Such a great emotional episode and really showcasing endeavors turning point

benj

Bakugo using tofu recipes as a way to try and get Todoroki’s sister’s number lmao. Shoto cockblocks him by asking her to send him the recipe instead. Dude wants a friend, not a brother-in-law.

Matthew Richson

This episode/part of the story solidified Endeavor as one of the most compelling characters of the entire MHA universe for me. A storyline like this isn’t something you see often in fiction. Horikoshi should be applauded for it.

benj

Agreed. Endeavor has been a character I've been fascinated by since his intro in Season 2, and my faith in his character being further explored since the Deku x Todoroki sports festival fight has been rewarded with Horikoshi's recent treatment of the character in the anime.

Jake White

“I don’t want your forgiveness....I want to atone” is what originally shot Endeavor up my list of favorite/most well written characters when I read this arc in the manga and it still hits hard in this episode

Sage

I think Enderver is right. In order to have Rei be able to leave the hospital and live with her kids he just can't be there. His presents would be way too much for her. He had to remove himself.

Athena

I think Endeavor's choice to separate himself from his family is a good idea. I think everyone would surely have their reservations and feel uncomfortable being back in the same house together and identifying as "a family." It may seem dramatic but I think it's definitely a good first step to getting things back on the right track. It definitely shows them how willing he is to atone and get them back into some sort of normalcy.

Muchymozzarella

It's definitely the correct move... for now. The key is to let things settle and not fall into isolation, which seems to be where the story is headed!

Muchymozzarella

"Is it just his hope because they love each other so much?" I'll be honest dude this entire arc in the manga I just quietly sang "Near.... far... wherever you are...." whenever they asked about each other, thought about each other, talked about each other despite being physically far away.

No omg "Watch 2 years later he's gonna be knocking pins out of people's hands." I had to pause and double over crying laughing. Your quips are the best lol I love this ep, so emotional and interesting and action-packed. Ending was so well acted and impactful for having such a small amount of screentime.

Muchymozzarella

Dang but this is why Endeavor is my favourite character. He's so earnest, and it doesn't even feel out of character. Maybe this might require getting into his backstory a little more as seen in the manga, but the way he's characterised even now feels like a man who spent so much time obsessing over the wrong thing and finally raising his head from where he's had it buried in the sand and realising it was a useless endeavour (pardon the pun). Essentially this whole time he's just been running away from being a father, and now he's slowly but steadily walking back in the right direction.

Kollie123

My man noticed the eyes lmao

Muchymozzarella

When you said "emo battle" for Nomu battle, I yelled. Dabi's emo battle. Correct.

Quirks cannot be used to injure other persons under any circumstances without just cause and a hero license. So self defense and the use of quirks to kill someone are allowed in some instances. Endeavor would be in his right to kill him. And I think that he would have done so a few seasons ago. But the end of All-Might and his developments with his family have made Endeavor change.

BotheredAsh

Ugh. I just want season 6 animated.... ooo I just realized season 6 and bleach will be starting up around the same time. I'm so happy! But the anticipation is killing me....

Aura Y

Not much to add to the conversation, but really strong episode. Endeavor is truly taking the actions to try and set things right in his own way.

This is the only thing episode that makes me cry. It just feels very real and maybe that’s cause of my circumstances growing up but I do really think that endeavor trying to distance himself is the best choice. I love natsuo and he’s absolutely right, he has no obligation to forgive him. However I think some distance might give him the opportunity to think more about it and eventually warm up a little. (Heh, warm up.) Prior to this episode I thought the show might not adress endeavors previous child abuse enough, but it reaffirmed me that they handle it right. Endeavor is a great character, but it took me a while to get over his past. I do think he’s redeemable but yeah. Difficult

AryTheDog

i don't think anybody mentioned this but the drug used in this episode is technically not the same as the one used in the uraraka/tsuyu ep. The latter is a drug relevant for the new movie and the former which ending uses is the one introduced during the overhaul arc

Matthew Richson

I was just wondering about that when I was watch that, then he started to mention THAT.

bl0odm1st

Yeah it for sure makes the most sense for the moms sake. Maybe we’ll get a flashback one day of how they met each other and what their initial relationship was like.

kingafreund

I wonder about Natsuo's face at the end there... It could just be that he feels bad for Fuyumi, because this isn't what she was hoping for, but... Idk, I wonder if he feels abandoned again? Like, I get why Endeavor thinks that this is the best solution for everyone, even if he's sad about it, especially if he thinks he needs to protect them after what just happened, but doesn't it also seem like he's kinda giving up? I wonder if Natsuo doesn't think Endeavor is washing his hands off them again by taking himself out of the equation. He might even feel like Endeavor retreating is his fault this time, which makes it worse... But I am glad that Endeavor has settled on Atonement as his goal now, I think it wasn't initially, at first he did seem to expect people to accept the change and get over it. This whole journey of his is why his redemption arc works for me, same with Bakugou. I can't believe I used to hate these guys when we first met them, and now, they are among my favorites, props to Horikoshi! About the Dabi theory: This is also where I started thinking along those lines, probably because now there's an answer to why they wouldn't have recognized him before; he looks different and they think Toya is dead, so why would they make that connection? Imagine my surprise when I realized that people have theorized this from pretty much Dabi's first appearance! Like, it makes so much sense now, but before this, it had never even occurred to me.

agoodwintv

Okay yeah it makes sense that you couldn't completely rule out the possibility of death with villain stakes and the scale of hero powers.

agoodwintv

That's interesting because his face also struck me for some reason. There's gotta be just so many mixed emotions...

Karin

I think I agree with Enji here. He put his family through a lot, if they will be ready to see him they can make it known. But living together with that much past and hurt in the air is not healthy. The kids, especially Natsu first need to heal from their trauma only after they can talk about buding a relationship. You cannot build a relationship with sb who is hurt everytime they see your face. Also he says he is putting some distance, its not likee he is totally cutting himself away form his family. He is just giving them more space, which Natsu must really need..I mean imagine even trying to forgive sb you you blame for the deah of your family member... :/
