Yay!!! Been looking forward to this 😁

Nick

My personal favorite season! hell yeah I'm so excited

Jo

Time for stuff to get crazy lmao. Definitely the most mind boggling start to the season there could have been, I think. At least before you fully realize what's going on.

SirLagginton

WOAH, this was fast

KJ Gaona

Same band as the Season 2 ending, btw! I think the creator of AoT is a fan of theirs.

a. tree

Just starting the watch, but the OP is by the band Shinsei Kammataechan, which also did the ED for Season 2!

Anonymous

YAY Season 4!! Also just a note that you said the opening has traces of the season 2 ending, this OP is made by the same band as the one who made the season 2 ending ost! That's why they have a similar vibe

Keegan Brakhage

season 2 ending and sesaon 4 intro song was made by the same band i believe

Anonymous

This season changes the entire game :)

It just be like that zzz

Gabis first few moments on screen and she's already commiting war crimes

malikparah

It's funny you said the op has shades of the s2 ED coz it's the same band! I love this premiere as we've only seen Marley from Grisha's perspective and the Warriors as antagonists to Paradis. But now we're getting to see what life is like for the Eldians in Marley and seeing how they could come tot the situations and perspectives they're in

a. tree

I'd say that Magath is responsible for the execution of Gabi's idea, considering that he is her commanding officer and that he is using a child soldier, already a war crime in itself, to commit this second breach of whatever the AOT world's Geneva Convention is

Anonymous

As much as I love all the other OPs this one has grown on me so much that i think it is my favorite. It is so eerie and it captures the tone shift of the show so well. Also I love how they get very experimental with the EDs sometimes. Season 2 and S3 part 1 endings was very unique too. Very excited to see your reaction to the rest of the season !

MikeWest

That was an inordinate amount of bird screen time

a. tree

You're totally right that this is definitely one of the most action-packed episodes. And yet it only goes up from here... I know you're already a good few episodes ahead, but what are your opinions on the new characters we've met? Any favorites? Any ones you hate? New thoughts on people we already knew? For me, it's probably an unpopular opinion because some find her annoying and admittedly kind of a brat at times, but Gabi is one of my top three, if not favorite, characters in the whole show.

bl0odm1st

S4 is balls to the wall nuts my dude

Anonymous

Really excited to see your reactions for the next few episodes, as the show has some really clever story beats coming up! Season 4 is really great overall

Amit

the ending song prob sounded weird because it the credits started halfway through the song. I think they do the full credits next episode though

benj

Michael Bay actually directed the OP

Anonymous

I also really like and appreciate Gabi as a character. I find it really frustrating the way some people react to her

Anonymous

I just want to know what do you think about the new opening, animation and OST? This video (spoiler free) helped me to appreciate even more the opening https://youtu.be/rC653PJFAw8 Btw, I thought that you would guess who is the person at the end of the episode

R'Mani Leavell

Is it weird I was more excited for your reaction to the new opening than the actual episode 😂

DrowsyCody

As we say every season Dont get attached

Nick

Update: @Goodwin I recommend you look into the lyrics for the ending song of season 4. It has some pretty great lyrics such as: "Countless birds burned their wings" "As their ashes spread, they smiled peacefully" "Someone please disperse the proof that I was here" "Even if my bones turned to sand and disappeared, I'm alive" It's called Shock by Yuko Ando Another note: the song playing when Reiner and Zeke drop from the sky and attack (the triumphant music) is called Ashes on The Fire.

Amit

Dont do this! you'll spoil yourself with that poster!

Anonymous

But he got angry because it wasn't long enough to put the amount of explosions he'd like to

agoodwintv

Is this season about Marley or is it about birds? Or are the Marleyan's bird people... hmmmmm

agoodwintv

Platypus titan has definitely been putting in work over the last 4 years

agoodwintv

Love the opening! I've heard the animation is different but aside from a few moments I didn't really notice much difference in TYPE, but the sequences in this episode are incredible

mapo picker

Episode 4 has an after credits scene. Really cool reaction. Can't wait for the future episodes

Aura Y

What a way to open up the season. Even though we return to a cast of characters that we don't even know, it sets the stage for the world we're going to be exploring. It's pretty weird we're rooting for the previous "villains" of the show, but hard to not enjoy the action sequences involving a team of titans.

D'Arcy Anderson

“What is wrong with this music” hahaha. This is my favorite anime ending song, I hope it grows on you in the next episodes. It’s very beautiful.

agoodwintv

Exactly. Speaking of propaganda... hard not to root for them with the music and action, the fact that we see it from their perspective, and the fact that Reiner and Zeke are the only familiar faces.

This is a conversation that will inevitably come up. The animation of the Titans. I just want to make clear that the reason for the change from 2d to 3d Titans was because MAPPA (the animation studio for season 4) was given a really tight schedule to animate the season. The studio elected to render the 3D Titans in order to meet the deadline they were given. I’m pretty sure that’s one the reasons why WIT (studio for seasons 1-3) declined season 4. Because of the amount of workload in the short amount of time. I know you of all people wouldn’t throw any hate of any kinda towards MAPPA like others have, but I just wanted to clear the air if that makes sense.

Nick

And to be honest the hate is completely unwarranted. The animation looks fine in almost every episode. Ep 6 is the only one where I really felt it was lacking. For such a tight schedule, MAPPA did amazing.

DennisAnimeFan

Great video! However, I am not sure where you are watching this, but the quality of the episode itself is horrible

agoodwintv

Hmm I wonder why... I watched it the same way I've watched all episodes. Maybe a setting was off

Steve.

I just wanted to touch on something you said about Eren in the season 3 finale. You mentioned there's this almost "supernatural" force pushing him forward, but what's interesting to me is that seemingly has nothing to do with him gaining the Attack Titan's powers... because as we've seen he was driven to an extreme degree even before eating his dad. It's just ingrained in who he is

Anonymous

Cant wait for everyone to fight about Gabi again. #TeamGabi

Anonymous

I think it might have something to do with his titan powers. Erin Kruger, the attack titan before Grisha, clearly saw the future in some way since he knew the names Mikasa and Armin. Plus in episode 1 Erin has a dream of the first titan attack before it happens.

Jonas

They never really said the "devil of all earth" is Eren nor even made allusions to it. it was just a mythology thing that Marley said to explain the origin of the power of the titans as far as we know so far in the story. The worst thing that the show ever said about Eren was Reiner saying Eren was the worst guy possible to have the coordinate knowing how Eren's personality was at that time (always screaming and having a very one dimentional view of the world at that time in the story) and giving a big power to a reckless person is what they felt was dangerous. Other than that the story actually really made sure we see Eren as quite the normal guy in all of this, not some devil or anything. Erwin was the one actually portrayed as a Devil by Floch and some of the survey corps.

Ramon Cintron

COnsidering my undying love for Reiner specially when my other husbando Erwin died last season this episode nearly gave me a heart attack at the end.

Anonymous

people who are unironically teamgabi is why this show was made

Anonymous

i don't know about that one chief. Eren isn't the most relatable or normal character and id venture to say the show makes Eren out as a vindictive and merciless person with a very basic sense of right and wrong, that has bit him in the ass a number of times. Floch's comments about Erwin reveals much more about Floch's thinking than it does Erwin.

hays collins

I know your reactions are typically mild compared to others but if you would’ve had to wait a year and a half for this to be the first episode I feel like you would be screaming your head off like we did haha. But to be honest while you were analyzing I was like “Goodwin just enjoy the big explosions and Titans destroying stuff” haha

hays collins

the writing is this season is down right incredible

Jake White

Birds have always been a massive icon and symbol for this series as an icon representing ‘freedom’, since they’ve always had the freedom of flight and the skies and could venture beyond the walls our characters have been trapped behind, anytime they wanted.

hahahha careful what you wish for

“Attack on Titan S4: War Crimes”

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

A few notes, most of it has probably been said by others already. 1) they said that they tried to get the founding titan 9 years ago, which means the ending of season three was been 3-4 years ago (since Reiner, Annie and Berthold spent about 5 years inside the walls) 2) they called the duck titan and the cool new looking one jaw and cart, cart being the duck titan. We’ll get to know them better later so no confirming your theories ;) 3) I think you got the point about this being a war that was caused by them loosing two titans 4) super duper horrible how Marley uses the eldians in war, especially the suicide charge and the falling titans (remember that these are probably people that were sentenced to "go to paradise" like Grisha and his co-conspirators As a side Note to that: remember in season 3 part 2, the first episode of that arc, where suddenly tons of titans showed up? This means they must’ve been hiding in the grass there, probably scared out of their minds. I loved this episode, this reaction and I Love the entirety of season 4 in general! Looking forward to seeing the rest of it with you :D

Alex Begley

I really do love what they do with Reiner this season and can't wait to see Alex's reaction to it

iaani

It is like a different show right now, because you get so much information. I feel like the pace of this season is so much faster, there's no time for fooling around. And the music in s4 is amazing again, Ashes on the Fire is the theme that plays when Reiner goes to work and the end credit is also so good.

Shark-ira

Here we go!! You got to meet the new set of characters and now you just need to get to know them better. I love the og gang but these new folks are also compelling. :)

BubbleTea

So slight reveal at how Zeke suddenly sprouted titans to surround the Scouts last season. You could say that Zeke's Beast titan power is to "unleash the beast" in the Eldian people.

Khalid

your erwin's praising is always appreciated

Gabriel Ribeiro

One more bird reference in this season is Falco's name

Vladyslav

I LOVE the music in S4. The synth (or is it electric guitar?) when Reiner lands and runs for the train is amazing.

ArmdVctr

You play Valkyria Chronicles?!

Anonymous

thank you for the erwin bit. all hail the true king of aot, gone but forever in our hearts 😔✊

Anonymous

Falco=Bird. Falco is the true enemy

jdthebud

So one thing I've appreciated the most is your fascination with the birds. I think you picked up very quickly that they were meaningful in their own right and not just background "nature" shots, which is something I completely missed in the first couple seasons when I watched it for the first time.

Brimmy

"I'm so disoriented" YEAH YEAHHHHHH ITS A THING the brainwashing explanation: YES THANK YOU! I feel like ur the only reactor to fully explain \gabi\ in just the first episode and not several episodes in The Jaw Titan is the Titan that Ymir ate...so she..."became" the jaw titan but her titan form is unique to her but i guess to just...make it make sense later its meant to look the same as Galliards form??? idk someone can explain it better I've seen the "here's what past versions of these specific titans looked like" but they filled with spoilers so I'd rather not watch them XD I'm so excited for the rest of the season \o/

Anonymous

i love s4 so much this is so hype

Derrick C. Shields

Marley is a fascist nation that points a gun at your Eldian self and your loved ones and says "jump" and if you don't respond "how high?" they shoot your mom. Is it really that surprising how Gabi acts? I honestly thought internalized oppression was a well known thing, but the number of reactors who watch this episode and say some version of "You hate Eldia? But you are Eldian!" is pretty surprising.

Anonymous

Bro that ending song is fire!!! Lol
