i think with the inclusion of todoroki now its interesting to see the faults in All Might's symbol. we have todoroki who was abused because of the challenge to reach the top. we have bakugo being psychotic and aggressive to everyone only caring about winning like all might. we have deku who without powers / control of them, charging into danger in almost suicidal ways. All Might is an amazing person and he is great but even that greatness can have negative effects on people. (and people say mha has no substance :() ).

This episode displays some of my favorite parts of the show and some I'm not the biggest fan of. I could honestly do without the Minuto fanservice or the weird Midnight extremes, but different sensibilities I suppose. I think Todoroki's backstory is one of the most dynamic and mature aspects of the show. Painting the #2 hero in a very unflattering light, while giving Todoroki a very tough hurdle to overcome in his journey.

This arc is so so good in the way it starts to really bring some of the issues with hero society to light. (and does it in a way that doesn't take away from the action of the festival) The reveal that guy in second place is a power hungry tool bag who bought his wife and quite literally only had kids to raise them to beat All Might is so fucked. Not to mention, the status and money aspects that have been briefly touched on, and the next episode even brings up issues with quirks themselves.

Girls in cheerleader outfits is like, the tamest form of fanservice possible lol, especially for a series aimed at young teens. I could understand if there was a weird up the skirt shot or something, but it’s played more as a joke than it is a fanservice moment

in this world where quirks are genetic, it is totally reasonable to think that deku is almights bastard child. imagine if tsu's dad didn't have a frog quirk but his best friend did. Also the legislation of quirks is a pretty big deal in this show. good catch

A lot of people are/were really angry at Deku for falling for the brainwashing even tho he was warned beforehand, but as we’ve seen, Deku always processes his thoughts by mumbling and talking in this word vomit style. It’s like he thinks by talking.

Something interesting to note is that in the subbed version of the show, instead of Deku saying Todoroki is like a comic book character, he directly says he seems like he would be the main character of a story.
