Pretty ballsy move from the writers to go all in on the whole Invasion thing even though we've known for over half a season that the planned is DOOMED. Since you go into it knowing they aren't gonna win and that the show will continue even on first watch through the writers had to find many other ways to make the episodes as good as they were hyped up to be. Obviously the Zuko stuff is the best part of the Invasion and nobody can foresee it happening like this on first watch, but other than that they had to find all these unique ways to make the rest of the story compelling, like Sokka's character growth getting a major focus and awesome call backs to various Season 1/2 allies and even the Dai Li/Suki.

oh wow, a character with development! ATLA FMAB and the rest are so goood. Wish MHA had anything other than than the main hero syndrome.... Fortunately it does grow away from the blandness of midoriyaand ggoes to some better characters <3

Right! It's a classic case of "We introduced this plot point (sozins comet) that the characters will do everything in their power to prevent but ultimately can't because the plot needs for that thing to happen" and it somehow still turned out amazingly

Aang when he got to the palace city and saw it was empty: "Where are all the hotmen?"

It's such an amazing thing that this episode has one of the biggest disappointments (losing the battle) and the biggest satisfactions (Zuko leaving the Fire Nation on his own terms to join the Gaang). Also that dog is gonna be SO excited to see you again.

i wonder what would've happened in an alternate universe where the fire nation didn't know about the invasion and aang had to make the decision to kill him or not on the spot. or rather if the fire nation still knew and there was a scenario where aang, sokka, and toph found ozai instead of azula. if aang wouldn't kill him, would sokka or toph try to? and would he stop them? beats me lol

In the directors commentary on the blu ray they said they added the Haru with a mustache line because they needed to add in a extra line in Sokkas speech to fill in the lip flaps. And there is a Avatar comic that shows sokka going on an adventure in between 3x1 and 3x10 when he goes under cover in the fire nation army and learns how to ride the rhinos. I love how they gave us an unnecessary explanation as to how Sokka knows how to ride the Rhino.

You may have been told this already, but Serena Williams voiced Ming, the lady prison guard that was nice to Iroh during his stay! (Random trivia) Also, I wonder. Did Roku not know about the effects of an eclipse on firebending? Seems unlikely to me. Would have been useful to know before having to go to the library and putting Appa through all that trauma.

My dad told me that every time they pass the train (the way I usually arrive there), he stops and appears to be looking for me.

agoodwintv

Lol yeah, there's a universe where Sokka was right and Ozai turned out to be a huge pushover.

agoodwintv

Wait I don't remember that comic. Is that in the collection of short stories?

"Also, I wonder. Did Roku not know about the effects of an eclipse on firebending? Seems unlikely to me." Idk it seems like none of the firebenders knew. Azula was surprised to hear it at Ba Sing Se. We know that the "darkest day in fire nation history" was a really long time ago - it's possible Roku didn't encounter an eclipse during his lifetime.

Did you note that the reason Toph can't tell if Azula is lying is because she doesn't experience any hesitation or guilt or doubt that would impact her breathing or heart-beat haha

Who has the better charge Sokka or Erwin haha

benj

oof honestly this is a tough call they are pretty similar tho. I think Erwin takes it unfortunately just for the epicness and maturity of his voice actor.

Amit

Which was such a funny scene because it's not like thats a lie that would make her heartbeat change since its so absurd and everyone knows its a lie

I like Aang's new look, it feels more Avatar to me coz it represents all four nations (brown pants, red belt and fire nation shoes, air nomad orange and yellow, blue glider). Good point about Ozai. Like, he works fine as is, and the mysteriousness makes him really scary at first, but once he comes out of the shadows that's somewhat lost coz I don't understand him as a person and he never does anything. Azula makes for a far more compelling and threatening villain, so I think Ozai could have been great as well if fleshed out more, but I also kinda get that sometimes you just don't have time for that kind of nuance. It just stands out here because everyone else is so complex.
