In Attack on Titan 3x6, Sin, the answers can be found (or not) in memories, and everything is thrown into question: What memories have we missed? What memories are fake? How did Eren get those abs?

I could not alt F4 faster out of my game after I saw the notification on my phone, lets go!

These heavy information reveal episodes of AOT are like 24 minutes worth of experiencing Infinite Void from Jujutsu Kaisen. Which now that I'm watching, I think would be a great fit for the channel... Edit: Also, Eren has the abs because he's in a military regiment lol

malikparah

You wanted answers? Now choke on them as Isayama cackles in the background. Honestly the first time watching this i was just relieved to finally know why Eren's dad just randomly vanished from the story in s1 it's coz Eren ate him! Apparently getting eaten by Titan is just a Jaeger trait. Also when Eren had the flashback of grisha in s1 before he stopped the cannon, Grisha said their memories will teach you how to use this power and in this episode we see Frieda biting her hand to trigger it so it's implied that Eren got the memory from Frieda on how to transform

a. tree

Recap of what Rod Reiss revealed because it is confusing as heck (no spoilers but I understand if you would prefer to let it get explained more in future episodes): Five years ago, Eren's father was a person with the power to transform into a Titan — let's call it "Grisha's Titan" for now. Frieda Reiss was a person who had recently inherited the Reiss family's Titan power — to transform into the Titan that the ability that Reiner referred to as "the Coordinate" which has the power to control Titans as well as to erase or alter people's memories (mid-roll card called this the "Scream"). We can call this one the "Coordinate Titan" for now. Very soon after the wall fell, Grisha arrived at the Reiss chapel. Note that in episode one, the morning that Bertholdt kicked in the wall, Dr. Yeager said that had "business" in one of the inner walls before left, telling Eren that he would show him the basement when he returned — in reality, he was headed to this chapel to gain Frieda Reiss's Titan. Frieda transformed in order to defend herself and her family, but due to only recently gaining the power, she did not know how to use its full potential and was eaten by Grisha's Titan. Grisha then killed the rest of the Reiss family (to destroy evidence? for some other reason? who knows), except for Rod, who being a coward ran off without grabbing any of his kids. After committing this act, Grisha headed towards Shiganshina (we see him in episode one riding in that direction, praying that his wife and kids were safe) to find Eren. He then took him into the woods, injected him with the serum to become a mindless pure Titan, and then allowed himself to be eaten by Eren's pure Titan form. This gave Eren both Grisha's Titan as well as the Reiss family's Coordinate titan, which Grisha had just obtained. This is the weird flashback thing that we see in episode 2 or three where Grisha tells Eren to "master this power" — in this episode we, through Eren's memories, see this as well as the Reiss fight through Dr. Yeager's perspective.

great reaction as always :) i'm glad you're at the part of the series where answers finally start flowing and the world starts building. also, to clarify (since the show kinda presumes you'll make the assumption w/o really addressing it), eren has both Grisha's titan and the royal family's titan. grisha was already a titan shifter + he ate freida to steal the coordinate, so there's 2 titans. then eren ate grisha, inheriting both. so in essence, they can stack. i had a hard time understanding and piecing that together my first watch, but i think it's really useful to understand going forward

See the same event twice from different perspectives... That's almost the definition of AOT. Coordinate? Scream? Alternated memories? Who cares about it, Eren abs routine is the only important thing here, I demand some answers

Anonymous

Eren always had those abs. Your memory got erased. *cue X-files theme* The truth is out there.

R'Mani Leavell

Mikasas mom was pregnant when she was killed. Eren and his dad went for a check up. It wasn't explained in the anime, but it was in the manga

Yes from here on out you will get A LOT of answers this season (both part 1 and part 2) but don't underestimate the power of Isayama. Having most of the answers does not mean the show will stop pulling the rug under you and break your ankles. Also I love how this show gives a lot of screen time to a lot of characters. You will keep learning about characters you weren't expecting to know more about, yet it will not feel forced and give you more pieces of the puzzle. Even a "bystander"s point of view can give you very important information of the big picture :)

Nick

Mikasa's dad did mention that they were expecting a baby I believe. But the doctor visit from Grisha was just passed off as "a friendly visit" if I recall correctly. So they kind of stated it halfway.

Also, the power to alter memories is tied directly to the Coordinate Titan, meaning that at the point since Eren ate his father, we know that no memories have been altered (because Eren would have had to do so himself). It's possible that Grisha could have altered Eren's memories immediately before feeding himself to him, but a) it apparently has a learning curve as Frieda failed to use it, and b) he probably has no reason to alter his son's memories in a way that makes him look worse. AKA what Eren remembered just now is either the truth, or reconstructed by Grisha in some way (but Grisha looks pretty bad here). Either way, since the titan had been stolen in a surprise attack, there was no opportunity for Rod to change Eren's memories in a way that was advantageous to him. This is why he is trying to steal the titan back from Eren, so that he *can* alter humanity's memories.

I’m glad you were able to put the pieces together despite Grisha and Frieda both having luscious black hair.

Ramon Cintron

I dont know if you picked up on it since im still about half way into the episode but Kenny was possibly hinting at Levi being his Nephew since his little sister was an Ackerman working underground and got pregnant from a costumer and wanted to have the kid.

Rudy Strother

I imagine the 3d maneuver gear takes insane core strength to be able to balance and adjust in the middle of the air. I wouldn’t be surprised if all soldiers in the walls have ripped abs

Brimmy

In episode 3 of this season "Hange explains to the Scouts that Eren will be eaten to acquire his Titan powers and abilities." So Grisha turned Eren into a pure titan and then Eren as a Pure Titan ate Grisha which meant that now Eren has Grisha's titan AND Frieda's titan easy to forget when ur watching a new anime that's just thrown a dozen different characters in ur face XD

Keegan Brakhage

you could figure this out at this point with the information given if you connect a bunch of different dialogue and events, but most people won't do that, and the author doesn't expect you to fully grasp that at this point. he would of understood that much sooner or later. so not technically spoilers, but someone watching for the first time would at least give the show the benefit of the doubt on these details because not everything is given to you so simply in this show

Katie Barnes

Just want to clarify that the two clans that turned their back on the king were the Oriental Clan and the Ackerman Clan, and Mikasa is the child of both clans!

hays collins

Wow I FINALLY understand Mikasa lineage in this. I was quite confused for a while thinking it was her oriental side that made her powerful

Anonymous

Fun fact: ODM gear actually weighs 125 pounds And that is why Eren and everyone else in the military are ripped

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

If you now rewatched episode 2 or 3, you would understand a few other things better xD dw tho, it’ll all make sense soon.

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

Also Eren has always been ripped. Armin is ripped too! They have to be to operate the ODM

Amit

On my first watch I also thought Freida was the girl version of Eren. I swear they used the same face and just gave him long hair hahaha

Aaron Ong

So, if Eren can remember Grisha's memories from Grisha's perspective, wouldn't that mean he can remember Frieda's too, since a part of her is in him? Maybe that's why he saw Frieda brushing her hair. Maybe titan shifter's memories are passed on to the next shifter? Almost (almost) like the Avatar? All this info dropping is great lol. It only gets better from here on

ScaryPurpleAmpersand

"When did Eren get so ripped??" Probably when he spent multiple years in military training, which he completed just a few months ago.

Comments are full of spoilers today

"That's girl Eren" welcome to the next AOT meme.

This is where the fun begins

Anonymous

I've read them all and have not seen a single spoiler, just people explaining stuff

Anonymous

Hahaha you really went "sfsatsghfstpffthuhstrf HOLD UP STOP" this episode after suddenly getting so much information

Anonymous

Explaining things that are clearly explained in future episodes are spoilers to me

Jay Crigler

I just noticed Mikasa is from both the Ackerman Clan and the Oriental Clan which neither of them can be affected by the king.

Amit

The only comments I can understand might be spoilers are the ones saying Eren ate his father. Goodwin clearly didn't realize that so it might've been better for him to find out the few next episodes on his own rather than us telling him. It's hard to distinguish if its a spoiler or not because it was heavily implied this episode even though it wasn't directly stated. My personal opinion is that unless something is explicitly stated that he didn't catch, such as Levi being an Ackerman, we should hold off on telling him things. For Eren eating his dad, it was implied but not explicitly stated. But I also know it's hard for everyone to get on the same page for that.

Anonymous

POSSIBLE SPOILERS DO NOT READ @Amit I guess you can't reply to replies so I don't know if you will see this. I don't think people are intentionally trying to spoil but a lot of what makes this show great is figuring things out as the show reveals them each episode. Even the Levi thing is further explored, so I don't really like when people "explain" stuff

minimonie__

we love our AOT abs lol. fun fact: Mikasa's really ripped too xD

Juan

SO MANY SPOILERS IN THE COMMENTS. i wish people wouldn't feel the need to explain things that are confusing at the moment. they will be explained later in the series If we figured this stuff out then he definitely will too, when the time comes. Goodwin is very deductive and intelligent.

Amit

Yeah I agree 100 percent, just think its hard to get everyone on the same page for that. Thats just the nature of reaction channels unfortunately because people get so eager for reactors to understand things fully right away instead of letting them figure it out themselves. But yeah people over explaining things is def annoying

Amit

See this is something like a soft spoiler. Goodwin didn't pickup on that, just like many first time watchers. No need to explain it to him when it is clearly revealed later in the season.

Brimmy

Edit: I didn't see the all caps of spoilers in the comments oops i only saw "i wish people wouldn't feel the need to explain things" my bad well..i only did like a sentence or two unlike those who put essay's we wanted to remind him of what was said by Hanji 3 eps ago since he did just start My Hero Academia which threw a dozen different characters at him in the last ep he posted

Anonymous

Bro, you are a smart guy, no one understands everything at first, by the end of the season you will get it all. In the first time that you watch the show is impossible to catch every single detail, it is made for rewatching over and over again. There are a lot of stuff on the comments, important stuff, that is going to be explained better later by the actual show Nice reaction as always! Every single episode from here on is gonna be great!

Chris

Now this is where the fun begins... Don't worry its gonna take some time for everything to connect. I figure you already have, but I recommend watching some of the episodes in season 3 at least two if not three times to soak all the information. Just keep chugging along and worry not because all will be revealed eventually lol. I have just one hint to give you: finding which character POV you are seeing will help a lot with some of the confusing sequences.

agoodwintv

I'm not sure but I think they may have done exactly that in that shot a few episodes ago where he has a vision of himself (as Frieda) looking in the mirror.

agoodwintv

I did get the progression of events by the end, it just took me the whole episode :)
