I didn’t even realize you had put out the first episode so now I have two to watch! Currently watching the first and a lot of your comments about society breaking down and economics reminds me of the show Misfits and how things can get out of hand real quick. Would recommend a few seasons of that eventually but it’s also weird so not sure entirely xD

Nick

Was not expecting this show to inspire me but it did, in 2 episodes no less

malikparah

since it looks like you're watching this on funimation on the video extras of the show's page the majority of the episodes have a corresponding inside the episode with short interviews of the cast of characters that were featured in the episode as well behind the scenes clips of recording which might help consolidate opinions on certain characters/themes

Megan

This is my first time watching and I wasn’t super impressed with the first episode but this one was better. I’m still not totally hooked but I really enjoyed your commentary.

DrowsyCody

Mha was my first anime besides Pokémon then I watched AOT and some slice of life stuff but I’m super excited to rewatch mha with you

agoodwintv

I noticed that section but haven't checked it out yet! Sounds interesting. I might go back and watch it as I get farther ahead

I saw some people in the last video complain about the dub and I just don’t see what’s wrong with it. I think when it comes down to it most modern anime have good english dubs (I personally think one punch man and attack on titan’s dubs especially get bad raps, they’re very under appreciated). The real issue is that if you’ve watched the Japanese version first and get used to those performances, the switch to english is jarring at first. Which isn’t a problem exclusive to foreign dubs. But if you realize that’s the reason it sounds off to you at first, it’s a lot easier to appreciate the different performances. That’s why I think in fma brotherhood’s case the dub was well liked because not only was the dub was really good, but the original cast reprised their roles from the original series. The original series came out at a time when a lot of people might not have had access to the japanese version, since they would be watching it on tv. So they already enjoyed those english performances so the english dub was set up for success because it had the same cast.

I watched the first two or three episodes a couple years ago and couldn't get into it at ALL. It seemed so self-deprecating for a hero origin story. But it get's much better starting in episode 3/4/5 because you start really seeing what makes Midoriya great and getting introduced to the ensemble cast. Midoriya, Bakugou, and All Might are kind of the emotional core of the story, but only them interacting without more stable people to bounce off of gets pretty depressing, which might be what you're picking up on. And it basically hasn't stopped getting better and better for the next four seasons.

Kollie123

Agreed, complaining about dubs seems so outdated, most people that complain about them have probably never even watched them. The hard for me to find a dub that isn’t at least passable, while most can rival the subs in certain aspects(the later parts of the jojo’s dubs have so much fun with the scripts, it’s absurd lol)

mr_wordcraft

Ngl but that moment when All Might tells Deku that he CAN become a hero makes me cry every time. In a world where people were constantly telling Deku that he couldn't achieve his dream, he just wanted someone to believe in him

agoodwintv

I like how it doesn't feel patronizing or some token thing, All Might was having a moment and reconnected with something great.

Shark-ira

Goodwin a BakuDeku shipper confirmed?!? 🤔🤔 (this is a joke) Also, I agree. Bakugou may be a jerk but he's kinda funny and that's why I like him.

Alex Louis Armstrong can't be bad, it would collapse reality.

Brimmy

Careful with that BakuDeku talk there's children on the internet that don't know what Sarcasm is u'll have flame wars in all of ur comment sections

Paul

This was very insightful! Small question, at 8:40 you said the ultimate thing is to have the same value and thought, what did you mean by that exactly? I have been wondering about this lately and would love to know what you really meant.

Brimmy

God everytime Deku's eyes sparkle and the music begins UGHHHHH my F E E L S HE'S SUCH A GOOD BOY Edit: the crazy person in me would like throw this in people's faces even though no one needs to know. I was heavily obsessed with MHA back like 3 or 4 years ago? to the point that I had watched Season 3 as it was airing and then when it was done went back and rewatched all 3 seasons in the span of a week and because i just wanted more MHA in my life I had watched all 3 subbed but when i went back to rewatch it was in Dub (so can confirm both are very good) OH I even read the manga weekly(???) as each chapter dropped Fandoms are scary yo if u don't keep ur wits about ya they just suck ur ass right in and wont let u go till u force ur way out

One of my favorite tropes is the old man trying to find meaning after his self perceived value has diminished. idk if there is a name for it but think old man Logan, or Joel from last of us. All might is past his prime and is feeling down on himself because he can't be what he used to be. Anyone know if that Trope has a name?

minimonie__

is it just me who finds kacchan cute? there's definitely something behind that impulsiveness lol

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

Love that you’re taking Bakugous character with amusement and a grain of salt XD hes actually my favorite character, for reasons that you’ll see eventually I’m sure. Great reaction!

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

(Not a Bakudeku shipper) but yeah, bakugou is my favorite character actually, or at least he became my favorite in season 3. He is a jerk all the way through but I just love him

MikeWest

This is the first show I'll be watching blind through the reactions. I have a feeling it's going to be awesome in a completely different way than any of the others were. Mainly because the show seems hilarious; intentional and otherwise. That goo fight gave me Jojo vibes, and explosion boy is promising.

Ruma Risto

Bakugo can be super annoying at times but he's an entertaining character.

Mima

i’m happy you’re taking Bakugo’s character the way you are! Many people dislike him (for obvious reasons) but if i’m honest he’s my favorite character. Although he is very aggressive, i think he definitely has admirable qualities too that you’ll see in the future!

macrowave

I’m enjoying these reactions a ton! Especially since i haven’t watched the beginning to this anime in forever, and I know it was a joke about the picking up chicks thing but i wanted to draw attention to the fact that even if the sludge monster didn’t attack, it wouldn’t have happened. If you noticed, Bakugo’s response to the idea was something along the lines of “No way! If we’re caught i’d never get in to UA” and I find that response super interesting from him, especially since he comes off as such an asshole who doesn’t care about anything

Nick

He reminds me of Greed so far. Especially with the whole "I hate you, but thanks for helping anyway. But I still hate you." Type of thing "Chuh- you thought I cared about you? I'm Bakugo the avaricious-"

benj

im on first watch through as well and Bakugo is definitely my favorite so far. The english VA is great and I love his personality, excited to see how he develops or if he develops.

Nick

I can't even begin to imagine the tonal whiplash one might experience from transitioning from MHA to AOT lol

Brimmy

I agree but then again I'm the Tokoyami fangirl XD

Nick Deano

this is such a tonal shift coming from AOT. im liking it though despite its cheesy camp i like it alot.

I really liked the all might analysis, and I think that only comes to the surface more and more. Also the bakugo commentary lmfao

agoodwintv

Yup! The way I look at it, desires are great because they push us out into the world to do things. This has a whole bunch of benefits like challenging us to become better and our learning about ourselves and the world. And getting the objects of our desires usually feels great, at least at first, but in my experience, that feeling is often temporary and extremely short lived. For me at least, when I think about goals I have accomplished, the feeling of elation I had at those moments has long passed, but the things I have learned and the things I have added to my self-identity are way more enduring. So in a way, it's like we are seeking value one step removed. We are looking for true meaning, but our focus is not on that thing itself, it is on things that are perhaps more material or more transient. A good way to reveal this, I think, is to think about what you would be doing if you had everything you ever wanted (more money than you could ever spend, the best imaginable social life, the ability to go anywhere, do anything, etc). What then? I have a feeling that it would in some way be a major destabilizing force once we had everything we thought we wanted (after a period of extreme enjoyment, it might begin to feel empty). And so trying to imagine what might be higher than those things or bring some kind of meaning to existence, my thinking is it would be something like connection to personal values and self-identity, and a hyper-connection to life, which is perhaps somewhat of a spiritual thing. And if that really is the ultimate in some way, why not aspire to that immediately, rather than waiting for more superficial goals to come true?
