Glad to see your liking the new opening lol Also the people who tried to escape in the hot air balloon were Armins parents

hays collins

I can tell that your gonna be saying “KENNY” a ton now haha

Nick

I think Isayama's writing upgraded when he started writing this arc. Or maybe he's just really good at political intrigue and human conflicts, always has been. This type of stuff suits him imo. Will update after watching!

agoodwintv

Eventually the whole video will be me alternating between "EREN" and "KENNY"

agoodwintv

Obviously I don't have the full perspective yet but so far this season I feel like many of the characters feel a little softer, a little more human, in a good way.

benj

This Levi action sequence is one of my favorite animated scenes in all of anime. I've watched it more times than I can remember since watching the show and their are tons of awesome fan edits of the sequence online with dope music behind it and shit that makes it even cooler. Brace yourself for this take but Levi...is kinda cool.

malikparah

I've been waiting for this episode ever since you said in s1 that you thought Mikasa and Levi would be a good duo and turns out it's because they're both Ackermanns! I'm surprised there was no reaction to that since Levi's full name has never been revealed until now. Guess we've upgraded from Goddess Christa to Princess Historia! Also here's a clip of the key animation for the Levi chase sequence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TyYKZmcx6c&t=86s

Amit

Idk if you noticed but Kenny says Levi's full name when he kills Dimo Reeves near the end of the episode

Aura Y

Two of my favorite Levi moments in the series just in the first two episodes, gotta be a good start to the season. Not only the chase scene, but I really love how he spoke with Jean. He doesn't know if what he's doing is right or wrong, but he's doing what he can to protect the people he trusts and cares for.

a. tree

So they only mention Armin's family very briefly in the first couple episodes of the show, but recall that both of his parents were gone and he was being raised by his grandpa. What happened to his mom and dad? When Sannes is talking about some of the people he had killed, he mentions "a stupid couple who tried to fly" and it shows a man and a woman in a hot air balloon. It doesn't come up again after this, but those were Armin's parents. Even worse, Armin's grandfather was killed in that culling right after the wall fell when they sent a bunch of untrained people to fight the titans who had invaded Wall Maria. All of Armin's family members have been killed not by titans or outside threats, but by the government.

Katie Barnes

I don't think it's ever explicitly mentioned in the show, but the couple in the hot air balloon trying to explore beyond the walls, that Sannes and the Interior Police shot, were Armin's parents!

Aaron Ong

Levi's surname has been revealed! Ackermann... Seems him and Mikasa share the name

Anonymous

So I’m not sure if you caught it, but Kenny says Levi’s full name, which is “Levi Ackerman”. Mikasa also shares the same last name!

Xylen

You might have picked up on it in the next few seconds and didn't mention, but Armin wasn't really calling out Jean when he was saying stuff like, "Why was I the one who shot first?" He was saying that he himself slightly hesitated (or was just slow) to take the shot, so how did he manage to save Jean in time? Then Levi confirms his worry by saying, "Because the other person hesitated." They're referring to the MP woman who had Jean at gunpoint. Just another little detail to humanize the enemy.

Katie Barnes

also, I'm pretty sure Levi himself doesn't know his last name is Ackerman!

a. tree

Also I gotta say I love how supportive and protective Mikasa is when it comes to Armin. Patting his back while he pukes, glaring at Levi when she thinks he's making him feel bad... their dynamic is underexplored/ underappreciated in my opinion

Anonymous

Too bad, I would’ve liked to hear you copy this “Ereeen!!!” from Mikasa hahaha

Anonymous

yeah, i didn't notice levi's last name reveal immediately either...

a. tree

I also feel like Armin's "good people" comment when they're sitting around the table hearing Sannes's interrogation signifies a shift in the nature of the Scouts that's been gradually happening for a while, but clearly explicated by introducing the aspect of directly killing humans. In the beginning, as far as they knew, the Scouts were fighting Titans, not intelligent Titans, not humans who had been turned into Titans, not people who for some reason had an interest in preventing them from learning the truth about Titans. They were the heroes of *all* of humanity, fighting this mysterious outside and inhuman force. But now we know that the truth is more messy and complicated. There's Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie, plus the Titans actually have human origins, plus now there's the royal government and the secret MP antipersonnel squad. With this latest adversary, they're fighting and killing others because the MP's and the government believe that their side is the best to rule for whatever reasons, and the Scouts believe otherwise and are by nature a threat to the way the gov't's ideology. And while it indeed seems like the gov't is just greedy or something, they definitely have more knowledge about the true situation than the Scouts. In a way, the Scouts aren't as sure as before about what they're fighting for — it could be humanity, but the other side seems to believe they are doing right by humanity, or at least something really important. Plus now they're fighting amongst other humans, and it's not an outside force. Can they lay claim to fighting for *all* of humanity? Increasingly, they seem to be becoming not simply "defenders of the people," but rather one side in a seemingly multi-sided conflict — each of whom believes they are doing what is right and necessary, even if they have to harm certain people to get there. It's unquestionable that people who fight outside monsters bent on destroying humanity are "good people," but that's not the case anymore. They're no longer de facto "good people." Super interesting to see how this will play out — also, thinking back to Annie's thoughts in Season One about the kinds of people branches such as the MP's attract, I wonder how this shift in what the Scouts fundamentally are will change what kind of people they attract?

Xylen

For me it was more of a, "Hey, have we heard Levi's last name before? It sounds kinda familiar. Have they mentioned it? Maybe another character? But who was- OH WAIT A MINUTE"

mr_wordcraft

There is no such thing as a Child Erwin. There is only Small Adult Erwin.

Stephen

edit: apparently everyone else pointed all this out while I was typing it XD two things, "Levi Ackerman".... let it sink in. take note of those 3 shots when sannes was reminiscing about what he's done in the past. The show never visits this topic again, but the couple trying to fly away were armin's parents. The other 2 will make sense if you look out for them sannes was the one who tortured and killed priest nick

Anonymous

When the intro song asks what's the truth. I felt that. WHAT IS THE TRUTH. Nothing captures this show better than that. But yeah I was thinking the same thing, it feels like the Dai Li. It's peace within the walls vs. truth & freedom, and it's a hard decision to make. But we do know what choice Levi made in following Erwin.

Anonymous

Re watching this with goodwin made me realize they didnt tell us he was last name until now. 🤯

Alex Begley

I didn't hate season 3 part 1 when I first watched it but rewatching it now along with Alex's analysis, I'm really starting to realize how much better it is than I give it credit for. The grouping up of Levi with the cadets is such a great dynamic

mr_wordcraft

The way the tortured MP spoke about his faith in the king and his cause honestly made me think about Marco and his own reasoning for wanting to become an MP that he mentioned during their training. He said that there was no greater cause than working for the king and now I'm thinking that had he joined the MPs he could have been pulled into this darker side of the Interior Police since I'm sure that the tortured MP started out as Marco. I'm sure there are plenty who joined to be lazy and live a good life however just as the Scouts feel that they are working towards the common good of humanity(at least in the beginning) I wouldn't be surprised if there were people like Marco and Marlo(Such similar names xD) who joined due to idealistic reasons and had they been eased into it might've learned to justify their actions for the sake of the King and his "Peace within the walls".

Anonymous

I'm surprised you didn't notice, but Kenny called Levi, "Levi Ackermann". A very important detail to the story.

mapo picker

You should watch this ending again in episode 12!!

Shark-ira

Now that Levi's last name has been revealed I think all the parallels between him and Mikasa make a lot more sense now.

benj

they are both black haired sexy killing machines?

Anonymous

I also was worried that Armin may have been taking a darker path after season 2, but I wonder if it was easier for him to justify sacrificing certain things in theory. He understands Erwin’s actions in Season 1 and thinks he’s justified, but then when he actually had to get his own hands dirty, he realized it wasn’t always so clear cut or easy.

meg

omggg I was looking through the comments and I can't believe the couple with the hot air balloon were Armin's parents!! I had that theory for a while when I rewatched the show because I remember in season 1 Armin told Eren his parents wanted to explore the world outside of the walls but he never said his parents were scouts. He also lived with his grandfather and he even had a book from his parents about the outside world that described the sea and because of that he wanted to be a scout. But his grandfather was against it because the book was "illegal". Armin also described his grandfather’s death, in the retaliation to win back Wall Maria, as a way for the government to reduce the population and to stop a food shortage because of all the refugees. He always was somewhat critical of the government and what happened to his grandfather so I think that maybe his parents got killed because of the government as well. But I can’t believe it’s confirmed that makes me feel really smart lolll.

Derrick C. Shields

Man, noticing the "Levi Ackermann" thing really is a toss-up from person-to-person, isn't it?

Anonymous

Erwin really looks like he was born an adult.

Anonymous

I really liked the dialogue of Armin and Levi talking about how the person Armin killed was probably a good person, also the dialogue of Sannes explaining why he tortured and killed all those people. It's good to see the military police members portrayed more as human beings. It also raises the question of does it really matter whether the person Armin shot was good or evil, or was he just doing what he had to do to save his friend's life.

SirLagginton

A fun fact I remembered when watching this is that it is canon that Moblit is a heavy drinker due to constantly having to deal with Hange. Just thought that was a fun little fact.

SirLagginton

I would definitly watch the outro to every episode this season.

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

I love how almost every single reactor misses the Levi Ackermann reveal. I mean tbf I also missed it cause I just kinda always associated him with the name. But hey when you kept comparing Mikasa and Levi in season 1, seems like you were on to something ;)

Jordan

Look close at Sannes’s rant about protecting life within the walls

Anonymous

I think 2x6 was where this show reaally captured my interest (i finished the rest til season 4 in a day lol) but this season was the part where it really solidified itself for me. I think its very rare that a show can put this many characters in the front and make you interested in all of them. Also KEENNNNYYYYYYY!!!!

Brimmy

nearly every single comment is \oh boy levi's last name is ackerman let's spoil it for Alex\ None of you could of just waited for it to be brought up a few episodes later??? god aot fandom is just a headache sometimes Edit: a few people don't seem to get what i mean, ur watching a reactor react to a show u urself have seen do u realize how much happened between Season 1 where Mikasa's last name was said constantly and now? of course he's going to miss it but then just being like \HEY THEY HAVE THE SAME LAST NAME GEE WONDER WHAT THAT'S ABOUT\ ruins the mystery for someone new if ya'll had waited u would of seen his genuine reaction a few episodes later where its brought up

Brimmy

Anyone would be if they had to keep Hanji out of danger 24/7 XD

Amazing episode. That opening sequence is insane, animation is next level. Your analysis about the lines being blurred and all of the moral dilemmas the characters are really starting to face made the episode even better than I remember. Can’t wait to get deeper into the season, some of the my favorite moments in anime are coming up. And some heavy themes I really look forward to hearing you talk about.

a. tree

what do you mean spoil they said it in this episode??

benj

i agree other than saying its a spoiler cause technically it isnt. But yeah like just let the mans watch the show, i definitely did not catch Levi's true name either at this point and it was a much better surprise later on in the plot to find out but whatever.

Nick Heiney

This episode was when it was revealed. You need to calm down or get off of this series.

Anonymous

erwin was born a savage.

Anonymous

it's very subtle and never explained, but the people that MP talked about torturing and killing were all related to characters of the main cast

the teacher, the flying couple, and the whore the military police mentioned are all important characters we dont know about yet. i hope you remember them if they come up again!

Aaron Ong

The couple is never mentioned again, but it is implied from the first season that they were Armin's parents, as he mentioned that his parents were gonna fly out from the walls.

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

They literally called him Levi Ackermann. Yes they bring it up again later but it’s really not a spoiler. Not to be mean or anything but that’s quite a high horse you’re sitting on rn, might wanna get down from there.

Amit

Lol how is it a spoiler when they explicitly reveal his name
