In Attack on Titan 3x3 Old Story, Erwin traces a clear path from his childhood to now for both his conviction and his eyebrows.

This may be a bit early to comment this, but I want to make sure you know before you watch: in season 3 episode 12, make sure to watch through the end credits!!!

hays collins

Ahhh to go from MHA to this. A sobering reality hahaha

hays collins

Ugh it’s so nice to have all the answer like Goodwin you have no idea. I feel like a manga reader while watching these reactions. I’m like “haha if you only knew”😂. I don’t know what I’m gonna do when the season 4 part 2 finishes cause all the questions will be answered HOW AM I GONNA SURVIVE WITHOUT ANY MORE AOT QUESTIONS!!! So cherish this time when you still have so many questions

Erwin continues to shine in his morals and conviction. After each rewatch, I gain even more respect for him. Your commentary on how he likely is a kind-hearted individual is very interesting, I never put it in those terms, but I can definitely see it. Also just an interesting call-back, in the last episode (3x2) Sannes told Hange and Levi that he silenced 3 different people in his past: "a teacher too smart for his own good" and a "whore from a ranch in the sticks". These figures being revealed to be Historia's mother and Erwin's father in this episode.

malikparah

When Sannes was talking to Hange about their role having an order and being a cycle he was taking about the general cycle of the ones who inflict violence/torture. As soon as one is removed from the role of the perpetuation of violence another steps in as the new people are put in power/are trying to reach their goals. It's why he told Hange good luck because she had stepped into his former role by resorting to torture. Also last episode Sannes mentioned the people they'd tortured and/or killed including a teacher too smart for his own good and a wh*re from the sticks. If you go back and look at the flashes to them you can see it's Erwin's dad and Historia's mum

Season One: Eren gets kinnapped Season Two: Eren gets kidnapped Season Three: Eren gets kidnapped This show is unoriginal trash. 0/10 go watch MHA.

This show does a really good job of depicting how bystanders are affected by the events of history, Christa's mother, Erwin's dad. Watching this show you really get a sense that everything matters and has weight. These things that the government might see as insignificant actually cascade into the development of major players in the story of the show. which mirrors real life in a cool way I think!

benj

At this point their should just be a poll on whether or not you watch the episode 12 end credits lmao. Let democracy decide. This could become PollGate 2.0!

Keegan Brakhage

it's like, not even a spoiler. just a really cool tease. they wouldn't put in spoilers, especially not any big ones.

agoodwintv

Maybe it's an earnestness? It just struck me how all he did was ask a simple question and share a moment with his father. His only crime was being too young and trusting to know how the world worked :(

agoodwintv

LOL wow, I dove really deep into plot conspiracies for that one. But that makes a lot of sense.

Anonymous

I wouldn't say Historia's mother was like that because she loved her daughter. There was definitely real resentment. But maybe a love/hate thing? At best... But that kind of mother/child dynamic does exist tho. And that's why Ymir could relate to her. Both of them were unwanted kids. Both of them took on false identities. Then they promised each other to live for themselves (wow freedom is a really huge theme here huh), but now Ymir is gone. And suddenly Historia's father walks back into her life just to complicate things. (Oh and remember Ymir in her original hometown was falsely claimed to have royal blood, meanwhile Historia has ACTUAL royal blood. Just interesting how they had kind of opposite but similar lives.)

Nick

You have no idea how happy I was for you to get into the part of the story where they start answering more than they ask lol

benj

Its been a long and tiring journey, but we finally made it. Now I get to witness this story finally unravel before Goodwin's eyes. Based off the way he's reacted to 2x6 and all the Erwin/Levi stuff the rest of this reaction series is gonna be a treat, it might just break Alex.

agoodwintv

Yeah there was no love at all there. I just desperately wanted there to be lol. Very interesting about the similarities between Ymir and Historia

Matthew B

I guess we can start the what happened to Marcel jokes about now.

Such a major reveal, the way that titan power transfer works! Now Reiss's quote a couple episodes back about the needing to secure both "the power and the vessel" makes sense. It's so fun rewatching this show, because you're totally right — they pretty much give us all the puzzle pieces for most of the questions by this point, but they did so in a way that makes them super hard to make sense of until they pull back the curtain. The show does such a great job of leading us to these perfectly-timed reveals. But you're definitely asking the right questions! We know that Ymir got her super-quick tiny titan powers from eating Reiner and Bertholdt's friends, but what about the other titans we know? And how far back does it all go? Where is the origin point?

RationallySassy

I noticed so many things this episode, gaaaahh!

MHA Alex: All Migth looks evil AOT Alex: Historia's mom maybe loves her (Btw, don't watch episode 12 end credits)

Shark-ira

I always liked Erwin but it was always kinda hard to put into words why. Hearing you talk about him helps and now I can tell my brother why Erwin is the GOAT in a more analytical way rather than just saying "he's got cool eyebrows". Not really relevant to this episode but you mentioned before that Levi seems to be one of the few people that Mikasa respects and I remembered a panel that didn't make it into the anime. There was a brief moment when the newest Levi squad had doubts in their captain but it was Mikasa who told them that they should have faith in Levi. S3 part 1 had a lot of rearranging to help with the pacing so its understandable why it didn't make it in and also the context of it didn't really apply anymore. Okay, I'm done rambling.

Aaron Ong

Another episode with a fantastic score through and through... And god, finally some answers for poor Goodwin When it comes to the debate of the Episode 12 end credits, I'm honestly all for you watching them. Sure, they give a glimpse into a future EP- but they do it in a VERY unique and cool way, and the result is you knowing like 5 seconds of a scene that is instantly superseded by something more important that the EP doesn't show you. IDK, I think it'd be interesting to see your reaction.

a. tree

My contribution to this debate is if you do watch the scene in the postcredits, try not to think to much about what it could mean in the moment. It's basically part of a scene from the climax of the next arc, with 90% of the context removed. However, if you put a reasonable amount of thought into it, you'll be able to reasonably guess exactly what happens then. Even if you just keep it in the back of your mind, events in the episodes leading up to that point will clue you in, but at least you won't go the whole season expecting it to happen, as I've seen at least one reactor do. When there was the hiatus between parts one and two of this season, the teaser served to generate hype and speculation about what was going to happen in the next part, since what was shown was pretty shocking. But since you'll be going right from episode 12 one week to episode 13 the next, that might not be all that necessary for you.

Anonymous

the cycle thing isn't anything deep. sannes was telling hange that there will always be torturers. and he told her good luck because she was the one in that position.

Brimmy

oh lord this conversation how about this watch the end credit scene AFTER you've finished Season 3 part 2 that way everyone is satisfied cuz u didn't watch it on ep 12 but u also do watch it just not on ep 12 of Part 1 XD

Xylen

I agree and was thinking of suggesting the same. Unfortunately I don't think the people who want him to watch it will be completely satisfied with that, because the point of watching it would be the excitement beforehand, but it's a compromise. At least that way he'd see what the fuss was about and how it was incorporated into the end credits.

agoodwintv

I mean his eyebrows are impressive, so I feel like that takes us most of the way there for Erwin's character. That is a great bit of trivia. That would have been cool to see, but yeah, understandable that they can't do it all.

Anonymous

goddamn. i just watched the end credits of s3 ep12 bc i wanted to see what the fuss was about and i'd say it's definitely not a good idea to watch them until after you're done s3 pt 2. as proven by this reaction (among all the others) you're incredibly perceptive and would figure some stuff out that's better watched without having seen these credits. while not being direct spoilers, it'll make some moments much less impactful bc you'll kind of have an idea of what happens. they literally show scenes, dialogue and screenshots from future episodes lol. i didn't expect it to be that much but yeah i now totally understand the urgency some people have

Aaron Ong

It's definitely a recurring subject/theme though. I'd say it is a little more deep than not

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

I agree 100%. Also to be honest my favorite part of watching reactors is to see them figuring things out with their brain. And also the end credit scene isn’t just the kinda spoilery clip, is also the whole pictures thing. I loved when Filmbuff basically predicted the entire plot with that and then was later gratified. It would be a spoiler if someone just told him what happened, this is forming theories based on a very cool scene and a cool shock moment.

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

It’s such a dumb argument. This is barely a spoiler and there’s also so much cool stuff in the little lead up to the aftercredits scene. Hed just be forming theories from that scene, nothing really gets spoiled. I love reactors figuring things out with their brains.

SirLagginton

I'd definitly recommend watching the end credit scene of episode 12. I adds tension and excitement for the second half of the season and I couldn't sleep the night I saw it.

Xylen

Look, I agree that the whole post-credits teaser debate is kind of overblown. I don't care THAT much, despite what it may seem from how verbose I tend to be. I mostly just hate seeing misunderstandings where people argue past each other without getting what the other person is trying to point out. So with that in mind, I wrote a few notes about the information a person can potentially glean from that teaser, to show why some people are so concerned about spoilers. !!! SPOILERS IN THIS LINK !!!, ALEX (OR ANYONE ELSE WHO HASN'T WATCHED ALL OF AOT) DO NOT CLICK: https://justpaste.it/67hyq There's a difference between foreshadowing, which AoT generally does masterfully, and literally just showing you a future scene. Edit: Removed a few lines because I came off a bit too sanctimonious. In simpler terms, I'm just very spoiler-averse, although I know not everyone's like that and that's ok. Some people watch episode previews - I don't. In this case, I just don't think it's worth teasing part of a show that has already aired and that you're currently in the middle of watching.

Derrick C. Shields

Yeah, I agree, I think. I think that scene is radical, and in the context of WHEN it aired, I think it was a cool choice. I mean it was such a good ad for the story, I started reading the manga as a result. But when you can literally just watch the next episode right away? Honestly, even if you ignore the spoilers, it just seems redundant really.

Okay also now that we know about the way Titan powers are transferred, here's a recap of all the Titans we know so far: Name: Colossus Titan User: Bertholdt Hoover Size: 60 meters Abilities: Size makes it a powerful siege weapon. Ability to emit energy in the form of steam and heat; can take this ability to an extreme in order to create an explosion-like effect (like when he fell on Eren's Titan). Ability to rapidly decompose under cover of steam. Huge size means low endurance, likely cannot transform multiple times in succession. Status: Unknown; last seen atop Wall Maria looking at the stars with Reiner and Ymir Name: Armored Titan User: Reiner Braun Size: 15 meters Abilities: "Armor" made of hardened Titan skin covers much of its body, making it impenetrable by most conventional weapons. Slow in comparison to similarly-sized Titans, but can shed armor from certain parts of its body in favor of increased speed. Strong enough to throw pure Titans over half its size across a field. Can transform twice in succession if Reiner takes a brief break in between. Status: Probably wherever Bertholdt is Name: "Eren's Titan," referred to by Reiner as "the Coordinate" User: Eren Yeager Size: 15 meters Abilities: Strong enough to fracture the Armor's armor in a wrestling hold, though not head-on with his fists. Generally comparable physically to the Female, though less endurance (perhaps simply due to experience). Experiments have shown him able to fully transform twice in succession, with the third transformation being deformed and weak. Recently discovered "scream" of unknown parameters allows the user to control other Titans... Status: Kidnapped by Rod Reiss along with Historia. Last seen with a scowl on his face. Name: Female Titan User: Annie Leonhart Size: 14 meters Abilities: Versatility, mobility and combat ability — capable of decapitating Eren's Titan with a single kick. Can temporarily harden select areas of its body, adding power to her blows and allowing her to protect her nape. "Scream" alerts and attracts pure Titans to her location (will only eat her). Endurance enough to run long distances and fight numerous Scouts + pure Titans before transforming again in quick succession; likely can transform as many or more times as Eren Status: Self-encased in a crystal of Titan hardening, currently in a dungeon underneath Stohess district Name: Beast Titan User: Unknown blonde ripped dude with glasses Size: approx. 17 meters Abilities: Lanky arms give it formidable throwing ability. Can somehow transform people into Titans in bulk (Beast is assumed responsible for what happened in Ragako). Fully capable of speech and can dictate orders to the Titans it has transformed, though they do not always obey. Status: Unknown; last seen sitting dramatically atop Wall Maria Name: "Ymir's Titan," referred to by Connie as "ugly" User: Ymir (last name unknown) Previous users: Marcel (Reiner/Bertholdt/Annie's teammate) Size: Small (around 4 or 5 meters?) Abilities: Superior mobility and agility; sharp teeth, claws, and strong jaw. Capable of speech in fragments. Likely able to transform multiple times in succession judging by small body mass. Status: Unknown; last seen as a willing prisoner to Reiner and Bertholdt. Reiner commented that they will likely not be able to protect her from whatever their superiors choose to do with her.

R'Mani Leavell

THANK YOU for the "Fly to Heaven" at the beginning! That made this reaction for me haha

Aaron Ong

Okay, after rewatching the scene, and taking a look at the link above, I'm starting to see everything that can be picked out from the post credits scene that would really spoil the show a bit. It would be interesting to watch you react to it AFTER Season 3 Part 2 is over, but I imagine we'll be doing a poll. I advise anyone who sees this (that has scene all of AOT so far) to check out a link in an above comment, or rewatch the post credits scene. It definitely does reveal a lot, and I think the best option would be to compromise. Watch it after Season 3 Part 2, so you already see the scene, but the rest of the post credits foreshadowing is revealed.

Aaron Ong

After reading this, rewatching the scene, and checking out the link, I think you might actually be right. I kinda forgot how much it actually reveals, to be honest.

bl0odm1st

If you watch the end credits scene I will literally do nothing because what the hell am I gonna do? I’m just a guy watching some reactions man.

Anonymous

i think you should watch the 3 12 end credits scene in your peripheral vision

benj

You should watch 3x12 end credits scene with your head inside a hollowed out watermelon

Amit

you should watch 3x12 end credits scene while buying cake for grandmas birthday party that you forgot about till the night of and eat the cake on the way to her house cause you realize its not actually her birthday you just misremembered it. That way you can get a decent glimpse of the scene but not watch the whole thing

RationallySassy

Has this become a new meme format? haha

BubbleTea

What is all this hullabaloo

Xylen

Who knew the procedure for watching a TV show could be so complicated and controversial?

Anonymous

So is this watch/ don't watch the s3 ep12 end credits thing becoming a meme now? 🤣

Anders Pike

Fun little background detail to watch out for. Ever since Sasha was right about the footsteps in the first episode of season 2, any time she says she hears something, Conny puts his hands behind his ears trying to hear it too. Always funny.
