Nick

I've been waiting for you to get to this episode and the next one from the very beginning lol. So excited to hear your thoughts

Zavooloo

i was refreshing for this one too lmao

benj

First. That's all I have to say for now until I watch. Hello Mr. Goodwin, I hope you are having a fine Wednesday evening. edit: LOL not even close to first, I thought I'd be the only one refreshing the page ffs

T-mo

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to point out that the people of Amestris, especially the people of Central weren't happy. They were ignorant and they believed the military's propaganda, the only way that we the audience can see through that is because we've seen the rest of the country and the ideology behind the government officials.

agoodwintv

Yeah maybe happy is not the right word, but complacent maybe. Things maybe were going well enough, you know, ignoring the impending doom and everything

Nick

Okay wow so first off this whole Mustang and Envy situation really reminds me of Katara and the man who killed her mother. Roy has been looking for Hughes' killer this whole time, torn up inside over it, and now that he's face to face with the culprit he's taking his time and enjoying it. I feel like there are a lot of parallels between the message here and the message from that ATLA moment. I like this episode a lot, but the next one is one of my all time favorites from the story (since you've seen it, I'm sure you know what I mean lol) I agree with you on the Ed being concerned for Roy thing. It's nice to see especially after the show leads you into thinking they have an antagonistic relationship, discovering that they both support each other when they can. Also shows crazy development that Scar is conscious of all of this. For me, it was very hard to watch Mustang burning Envy like that especially after knowing he served in the war, it's concerning. Like, it was both concerning and satisfying because Envy has done so many awful things. I've seen a lot of reactors cheer when Mustang burns Envy, but to me it's a mixture of unsettling terror and justice at the same time. Anyway there's only 11 episodes left. That's my update lol, longer than usual I know

Roy not hesitating to attack envy when they looked like Hughes is low key a big deal. Everyone has fallen for that trick in the series, Ling watched envy turn into his girl(her name escapes me lol) right in front of him and still hesitated., even huges got caught by the trick despite knowing it wasn’t his wife behind him with a gun. Roy’s the only character to just blow right past the cheap trick, which is why envy is so bamboozled by it

Nick

Yeah I think at this point Roy was expecting anything, after Envy revealed his/their trick earlier in the episode. He was out for homunculus blood as soon as Envy confessed. His quote "Maes Hughes is dead. That's a fact. And you invoke his image? You must be glutton for punishment!!" shows where his mind is at. It probably only made him angrier to see Envy pull that trick.

I can’t wait for next episode!

Your reaction to the end of every episode is basically how I feel too, lol! I don't know how you only watch one at a time (if you do, I don't know if you edit a bunch at one time)!

themightyabe

Actually, I don't think they were zombies. I think that all of the philosopher stones made in the 5th lab were infused into them. So basically they all have human souls.

Joey Joseph Jojoson

one of the best cliff hangers!! can't wait for the next episode! I hope you are binging this?

Etsch

You're definitely right about Mustang simply killing Envy vs torturing him. Look at how he killed Lust, he burned her entire body non-stop until she finally died. Then you look at this fight with Envy where he targets specific locations on Envy's body not to kill but to inflict an incredible amount of pain. Its unsettling, especially with his reputation from the Ishvalan war.

Say

This episode starts off strong with the radio capital scene and ends with such a cliffhanger. Though not my favorite per se, it's one of the episodes I most enjoy if I'm binge-watching -- I just don't understand how could you just stop here lol. I would have caved in and just went with the next ep right away! That said, though, this arc is really meaningful for Roy and soon, Riza too. Those two are my favorite partnerships in the whole series; and word of the author is, the only reason they aren't married/pursuing a relationship is because that would be against the fraternization laws, which means they won't be able to stay superior and subordinate anymore (and they both realize Roy needs Riza as a safety net, just like in this episode; not to mention they are both too dedicated to their cause to put their personal lives over it.)

Nick

Roy and Riza have more chemistry between them than the literal flames he creates

agoodwintv

Yeah it is unsettling, especially with Roy going out of his way to explain in detail what he's doing...

agoodwintv

I like seeing them have meaningful interactions and actually break down barriers for a bit. It's a nice contrast between their usual conversations of "move out" and "yes sir."

Christo Badenhorst

Look Roy is in the wrong here, but I'm not going to pretend I'm not enjoying envy getting shit on. He killes many people and he is the main person who have always looked down on humans and always greets them ( you filthy humans) so Roy is wrong but seeing another useless human absolutely destroy him is so fun. He called humans useless yet he fears Roy. Might be a little sadistic but on a serious note. My opinion is that it's not all bad and it should happen. It's something that have been bothering him and eating his soul and he acts fine. Revenge is also not the answer but in real life letting out all your pent up anger is and if I'm honest. Is someone killed my best friend and then mocks him telling me he was an idiot for falling his tricks. I am man enough to admit that i propably would act the same as Roy. A year. Of frastration and then his killer mocks him.... Maybe not torture but show him what can the humans do that he have been mocking and humiliate him for being useless by absolutely destroying him as he did. I will not make a good leader of. A country then because my opinion is screw that little shit for killing huegues...

agoodwintv

Haha yeah, I mean... Envy is awful. no doubt about that. And it's not hard to understand what would make Roy lose his cool like that. But yeah, I think it is disconcerting seeing Roy that way because of his history, and also because the questions about whether or not he actually CAN rule well and hold himself accountable like he says.

Oh no - I forgot there was this giant cliffhanger at the end of this episode .... man I guess I will have to wait some more for my favorite episode and favorite line ever .... agh

Brimmy

Envy episode soon? Oh shit its Episode 54 o.o can't wait to see if i still feel the same way about ep 54 when i watched it back in....2013? 2014? 2018??

Purple Dawn

Will you react to the ova's and bloopers when your done with the series?

The Bird of Hermes

people do see Roy's dark side, it was shown back when Roy "killed Ross" that everyone believed he would do something like that over anger

Sal Inger

About the Ed caring about the Zombies thing. I think it's more that Ed cares about destroying the souls of the innocent people that were shoved into the philospher's stones used to create the Zombies. It's very similar in how the brothers don't want to use the stones at all because using them means using the souls of these innocent people as fuel.

Nick

There's also an argument to be made that killing those zombies is mercy, the souls trapped in there have been reduced over time to pretty much mindless tools for power I think Envy said something about it in the belly of Gluttony. They told Ed he needs to let logic dictate what is still a human being, or is still alive, and to not let his emotions decide I don't agree with Envy but it's still an interesting point. The souls are in a place of stasis until they're freed Like there was that one philosophers stone stole that thanked Ed for using his soul to escape the belly of Gluttony.

Andrew G

Mmmmmmmhmmmm A Scary Roy appears! He back y’all; And this time he’s buffed himself with Hellfire, left ALL his antipsychotic medications in Central, and lost his WHOLE MIND underground.
