Any opening/closing etc. that people say is a spoiler, is pretty much only a spoiler if you know what's going to happen in advance lol. I don't know why people say stuff like that tbh

agoodwintv

I think in hindsight it becomes really obvious what the things mean, so it feels like there's spoiler potential later on. But for the most part, the first time watching it doesn't jump out at you. Although I guess it was a surprise reading the title card "the female titan" :)

Anonymous

I knew Mikasa was the Female Titan!

agoodwintv

It was so obvious. She's a female character, the titan is a female... I could go on and on.

PS

Your vimeo link comes up dead

agoodwintv

I just tried to click the link and it doesn't work. But copying and pasting it seems to work ok

hays collins

Hahaha love how to say there thinking for a bit before figuring it out. This whole time I wanted to say “WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO IS BLONDE. JUST THINK!!!” Hahaha

Francesca White

one of my favorite quotes from the show came from Annie this episode "I just want the weak, who do get swept along with the flow, to be considered human too".

hays collins

Ugh so excited to get into season 2 next week!!!!

Aaron Ong

You gotta remember, until now he didn't really have any reason to assume that titan shifters look like their titans lol

R'Mani Leavell

I think when Eren was saying something about Annie spinning someone, he was refering to that time Annie flipped Eren and Reiner both when they were in combat training. But you can also be right, it could be a double meaning

Nick

Can't believe Mikasa would transform like that in a city district full of people...

Kyle Chong

Was “it was Annie all along” a wandavision reference?

bl0odm1st

Annie laughing makes me super uncomfortable and I'm here for it

Nick

Anyway, Armin saying the good person speech to Annie is a callback to the conversation they had near graduation, when he said she was a kind person back then and she seemed surprised. So she values his opinion of her enough to willingly walk into what is likely a trap It explains why she didn't want to kill him too. There's an OVA with Armin and Annie in it if I'm not mistaken where they talk more but I could be wrong Edit: It also explains why Armin waited a month to reveal his suspicions, plain and simple he didn't want to believe it

malikparah

Your certainty on the female titan being mikasa these past few episodes has been both baffling and hilarious. frustrated coz a lot of annie's dialogue hits different with what we learn in the next few season but i can't talk about it yet haha. also you've probably filmed ahead but 1x25 has an important post credits scene!

agoodwintv

Yeah I think he's talking about training, but it really confused me at first cause the spinning rope attack thing is still ever present in my mind at all times lol

Anonymous

Yes, Armin is intelligent and strategic, but that makes him a masterful manipulator as well. He knew just how to get under Annie’s skin, saying how “Eren will be killed.” Edit: Armin didn’t want to believe that Annie was the female titan, and he didn’t want to manipulate her, but he did what he thought he had to do for the sake of humanity. This also adds so much depth to Armin’s character; thinking of him as a masterful manipulator makes him seem not so innocent anymore, and it’s kind of sad. They can’t really be kids anymore.

agoodwintv

I'm just continuing with the "it was Madam Christmas all along" thing,, which I've heard is similar to something from Wandavision. But it's a coincidence :)

Alex Begley

The show's use of time jumps is great. Allows for mystery and tension as the characters go through events without you knowing and you don't know who knows what going into certain scenes. I remember how caught off guard I was too by how quickly things developed in this episode. I only suspected Annie at the last moment, just before they got to the tunnel and I was so upset I didn't think of it sooner haha

PS

I love Hitch's character

Alex Begley

This is my first time seeing everything again since my first watch through and I realized the true meaning of that dialogue too

Sal Inger

This is probably one of my favorite episodes of season 1. I think it's great that we get these little insights into the different factions now and then, especially since everything we've heard about the military police so far was pretyt much overwhelmingly negative, so it's great that completely normal people who just want to take it easy and not risk their lives every day and even idealists like Marlo are among them. Really puts things into perspective. And yeah, it's really weird how after watching all these incredibly creepy looking titans devour people in the most gruesome ways for 20+ episodes, seeing Annie blushing and laughing manically is somehow the most eerie and uncanny thing in the show. It's just so out of character that I think I actually got goosebumps the first time I saw it. Also, and I’ve said this pretty much verbatim before in a comment that got gobbled up by patreon and their stellar back-end, but seeing how you’re nearing the end of season 1, people are bringing up the OVAs a lot and you might even be already in the process of watching them. Now, some people will probably disagree with me here, but if you want to watch the OVAs before season 2, I would recommend skipping the OVA called “Ilse’s Notebook” and waiting until you’re about halfway into the season before watching that one. That’s how I did it (at the time I didn’t even know that there were OVAs) and I am really glad that I did, since watching it earlier would have really taken away from the first few episodes of season 2 imo. The OVAs, in general, are just optional, supplementary content that provides mostly character development, so it doesn’t really matter when you watch them. It’s just that “Ilse’s Notebook”, in particular, is borderline spoilery in the context of early season 2. Again, that’s just my experience with it and other people will probably see it differently. Also, there are just about as many reactors out there who waited to watch that particular OVA as there are that watched it before season 2, so probably just go with what you feel is best or maybe do a quick poll on it or whatever. Anyways, super stoked to see your reactions to the final episodes and even more so for season 2!

agoodwintv

In this case the skip really through me through a loop, but the reveal that it's an operation and that Armin is misleading Annie is worth it

agoodwintv

I was happy to see this little Military Police faction being depicted in a somewhat positive light. They are also just kids, after all, and some of them actually believe they are serving humanity by joining. As for the OVA, I think I will watch both Ilse's Notebook and the Levi one before watching season 2. That seems to be the consensus recommendation as far as I can tell. Since I really have no way of knowing how spoilery something is before hand, I'm just gonna hope for the best in this case :)

Anonymous

it's no big deal, mikasa just has to transform into the female titan and defeat her

Anonymous

nah i'm sure the female titan is mikasa... also, i still recommend you to watch attack on titan in 9 minutes, it has spoilers of season 1 but i'm sure that you may have already finished the season by the time you post this one

Anonymous

Wait, the female titan is Armin, right?

Anonymous

Annie's laugh is creepy as hell. About the OVAs I would say that you should watch Levi's first, then season 1 episode 1 and after that Ilse's Notebook. Then you can upload them in the order you want but for me Ilse's Notebook has a major spoiler about the first episode of season 2.

Anonymous

I love the line delivery from Mikasa at the end. The way she says "enough" does such a good job of conveying boredom/contempt with the effort at diplomacy as well as her simmering rage at Annie.

agoodwintv

Okay that seems like a good idea. Won't take much to just watch S2E1 first

a. tree

What Annie said about "normal people" vs. "good people"... it says so much about her character and really the whole show, but it's meaning isn't really realized until much later. "I just want the weak, who do get swept along with the flow, be considered human too." I'd love hear what you think about what she said there! With the multiple-year gap between seasons, I had totally forgot about it, but really I think its one of the lines more worth remembering.

Anonymous

Something I noticed on rewatch was how Armin tells Annie, "It seems like you don't want us to join the Survey Corps. Isn't there a reason you want to join the Military Police?" And Annie says, "Not really. It's only that I want to survive." At first, I remembered how the MPs were safe and sound in the interior so, yeah, she wants to go there to be as safe as possible, but now that we saw what went down with the Female Titan, the double meaning is insane.

benj

This episode lit and Annie laughing is iconic/terrifying. Random switch of topic but you said in recent vids you've completed the imdb top 250, so I was wondering what your thoughts were on the anime movie Your Name? It is 55th on the list and I think in the top 3 for anime movies. Just curious if you liked it or not, it also touches on some pretty beautiful things that have to do with loss, love, the meaning of time, etc. Its one of my favorite films of all time, but don't let that influence your take lmao.

agoodwintv

I've been thinking about that but it's very cryptic :) I'm not exactly sure who the weak are here or what the flow is.

Sh3nx

I hope you are a little more advanced than the episode you post, because some people can`t help themselves and do really kind of insinuate some things that are spoiler worthy. Also about the OVAS, every ova its safe, but if you want to go on only for the story and canon purpose, Lisa`s notebook its the only Important OVA for the story, It can contain some things that allude to the future (as some people said here), but in reallity you won`t really figure anything until waaay later because the series knows how much to show without giving away anything, so yeah, its safe to watch the ova after Season 1, and that ova will keep you guessing a lot, and thats the fun of Shingeki on the first season, but don`t worry about "firuring out".

meg

I'm not sure how far you've gotten, but be sure to watch the after credits of episode 25!! it's very important!! And personally I think Ilse's journal can wait a few episodes into season 2 or even after season 2 to be watched. I think it kind of ruins the surprises of season 2 episode 1, but that's just personal opinion. I watched it after season 2 and was glad I did, it made connecting the dots much easier.

Off-topic comment: Another show that I would recommend(cus it's not like you've been getting enough shows recommended to you already) is the Last Dance. It delves into how Michael Jordan's larger than life personality shaped basketball and indeed popular culture in the 1990's. There are a lot of philosophical nuggets in the show for you to analyze that it can appeal to an audience that's not necessarily fond of basketball. Plus it's only 10 episodes and I know you've been looking for a shorter show to watch.

agoodwintv

Right now I've seen through the end of season 1 :) Thanks for the info! I'll watch Ilse's Notebook either before starting S2 or after S2E1

agoodwintv

Interesting, I've heard mixed things, but right now I think it seems the best course of action would be to watch it after S2E1

Anonymous

yeah if you ever feel like "wait did i miss an episode or something" its definetley something thatll be covered in a following episode, like how they came up with this plan, and how eren stated annie can flip a guy over. this show loves dropping flashbacks after dropping bombs like that

agoodwintv

So I watched the first episode of that a while back just looking for something to have on in the background, and I ended up binging the whole thing :D Great documentary

Anonymous

Great documentary indeed. What are your thoughts on Jordan's ultra-competitive nature ie he deludes himself into thinking that some normal human interactions he had were slights towards him and he used that for motivation? Do you think you need that kind of mentality to be that successful on the level he was? Is it even worth it to be successful for potentially robbing yourself of personal happiness?

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

Damn with season 4 in mind, everything about season 1 is in a new light huh?

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

Noo DONT wait! I actually really really really like it when reactors try to work with the I formation they might get from Ilses notebook and It’s meant to be watched before season 2. I mean you can also watch it after the first two episodes of season 2, that would probably be the ideal time. Then you will still get your shock moment and also the info that helps put season 2 into perspective

Anna Lena Ciplajevs

Please don’t watch Ilses Notebook after season 2! If people really want the pure shock factor to remain, just watch it after episode 1, biz before that is fine too! I actually always thought that it made the reactions after it much better and it doesn’t spoil anything, it just gives two hints. Please!

PS

yes watch it after, it destroys one of the big moments of the first episode. Ilse's notebook is an OVA not seen by most of the audience it's their to sell the DVD

Yusuf

Why does she want that though? She is a ruthless individual, so why is she against dehumanization? Very interesting...

Yusuf

That is what I find interesting about Mikasa, she gets over her disbelief much quicker than others because that is how much she cares about Eren.

KJ Gaona

I don't understand why he can't watch Ilse's Notebook sooner. That story appeared in the manga way earlier. It was intended to be read before Eren even met Hange in his little prison cell so we're clearly way past that point. It's so cryptic that I can't really say it spoils anything. The shock factor might be diluted a little bit but the emotional aspect is really what's going to drive his reaction anyway and that part is going to be perfectly intact regardless of what he thinks he learns from Ilse's Notebook. It's tough to discuss this stuff without being able to directly refer to the exact scenes I'm talking about, but I hope the intent is coming across still. I guess it doesn't matter that much as long as you watch it sometime in Season 2 so that the memory stays fresh. (edited to remove what might have been too revealing of a remark)

War2244

I think what Annie was saying to Marlo was that if someone whole heartily believes what they are doing is right, it can give way to atrocities. There are plenty of examples of this in history.

Nick

It's ironic coming from Annie. Or maybe not ironic but says a lot about the fact that she's the female titan. We've seen her kill scout members and cause pain and mayhem, but to her she probably thinks it's what has to be done

mapo picker

Quick reminder that episode 25 has an after credit scene:D

Anonymous

I may be too early but I have to say this (because I don't know if I will be financially capable to continue to be a patreon in that time): I'd highly recommend to read chapters of the SnK manga that cover event of 3rd season Part 1. Anime adaptation of those are great but WiT Studio cut a lot of dialogues that important to a growth of a certain characters. So can I ask you to read those like an extra patreon stuff maybe? The chapters are: from 51 to 72 (including both of 51 and 72)

Paul

People seem to be forgetting that they are considering a lot of the content as spoilers only in hindsight. I watched the openings as they were supposed to be watched and I watched the OVAs as they were supposed to be watched and they spoiled nothing. People who are on season 4 ofc will be able to understand what things mean after they have watched them, but what they consider to be spoilers are actually hints that are supposed to be watched the way they are meant to be.

Paul

I've posted this below but they aren't spoilers. Shows drop hints and it's okay to watch them. I still don't get why people stopped him from watching the OP.

agoodwintv

That makes sense. Something about the way she said it was weird though, or off rhythm somehow. It was like, "people like you are dangerous... I admire you."

jdthebud

Yeah I like this take. I'm currently in the middle of season 2 myself and I haven't really been spoiled by anything in the openings and stuff.

Aaron Ong

Goodwin said he'd be watching No Regrets after Season 1 has finished, and Ilse's Notebook after S2 Ep1, don't worry :)

Lavie

I think the story should be enjoyed in the order it's meant to be, so Ilse's notebook should be seen between s1 and s2. In the manga the story Ilse's notebook is shown even earlier around the time Eren meet Hange and Levi for the first time.
