I don't think Ed is even worried about Al surpassing him. One of the greatest things about their relationship as brothers is that Ed has stated in the past he has complete faith in Al, and Al has complete faith in him. There was that time with Sean Connery armor dude where Ed said "He'll be just fine! I've been sparring partners with him my whole life, and I've never beaten him!" Will update after finishing video just wanted to give my take on something you mentioned briefly in it

agoodwintv

That's true! Forgot about their sparring dynamics. I was thinking about that one episode where Al got the ability to perform alchemy without a transmutation circle, and there was that shot that suggested Ed's anxiety about Al being both taller than him and better at alchemy :)

This is gonna be a good week for fullmetal uploads lol. Always makes me laugh that sloth is the fastest homunculus

I love that both Kimblee and Pride both know that Al is still nearby. Kimblee knows this because of that talk he just had with Al about getting his body back, and saving everyone. And Pride knows becasue of the talk he had with Al back in the dome, (Al saying they could have just fled, then pride mentioning that story about his "mother"). Such a small miss able moment, but genius nonetheless

(I accidentally deleted the comment! WHY?? Here's a rewrite) Remember, canonically Al is stronger than Ed; Ed never won before that fight at the hospital after the third lab! And I don't think shooting in the head will quite work for the mannequins. They're not just simple zombies, they are artificial flesh-and-bone operating via philosopher's stone. It's not the brain that commands the body, but the infused soul itself; so the best the protags could do is disable the motor movement by cutting off limbs, damaging muscle tissue, sticking them to the ground, etc. And I do agree that Ed's fight is the weakest of the bunch, but I also think it is the most emotionally-driven. Ed always had very strong feelings about what he considered human and the human condition, and the mannequins here are human souls dragged down to the worst possible state: mindless, bestial, and purely instrumental to the wills of others. The sight disgusts and horrifies and pains him at the same time, and he's actively fighting against his trauma as he cuts down what he still considers "human". The facial expressions on his face as the OP song plays is phenomenal imo.

I forgot how exciting all this is! Also once again suggesting you react to the blooper reel after you're done

Nick

I had never thought about his fight in this episode like that, but you're totally right. The zoom ins on his face rather than focusing on the action as he's stabbing at them makes a lot more sense. It's more about Ed's progress and beliefs

Nick

Honestly it's gonna be several good weeks until it ends, this whole final arc is full of great episodes lol

That fight between Al and Kimblee is incredible, very fast pace, creative use of alchemy, and with their powers enhanced by philosophers stones they can do so much. One of my favourite fights in the show. Then the 5th laboratory fight you have: Ed: using a spear to take down the mannequin soldiers. Scar: deconstructing them. Darius: using his gorilla strength to pummel them. Zampano: using his needles to shoot them. And finally... Jerso: "bululululululululululululululululululululululululululululu"

Thanks for the Vimeo url! Jerso's disgusting attack is mute on japanese plus Ed's voice is like hearing a young Hange , subs winning as always haha

This is, not surprisingly, a packed episode. So, Al's fight has one of my favorites animations from BONES in the '10s, and I think from here until the end there will be at least one REALLY COOL FIGHT SCENE per episode. Also, Al's strength comes from his humility, he gives up the stone to Marcoh, he knows he needs help, even when he has the most powerful alchemy in his hands. Secondly, yes, Kimblee is a really intelligent and curious guy, he engages with his enemies' ideas, so he's rarely one note. Even when he's just enjoying the sounds of souls colliding. And he's living inside Pride now, it's pretty poetic. The Armstrongs... Dude, just everything with these two, from brushing off their injuries to Olivier putting the gun in her forehead to prove her point, it's just pure curated Armstrong Energy. Also, Sloth speeding for the first time and the pure wtf just happened moment, *chef's kiss* I love that the episode is just so good that Ed, Scar, and the Chimeras fighting manikins is the lowest energy of all. And, to cap it all off, a classy appearance by the Flame Alchemist is the best way to create a cliffhanger. AND I ALMOST FORGOT! YOKI DID SOMETHING!

agoodwintv

I'll include it from now on :) And wait, what? There's no bulubulubulu sound in Japanese? That's the strongest argument for the sub I've heard so far...

agoodwintv

That's a nice point about Al. For a second I thought Dr. Marcoh was about to wipe everyone out lol. Yoki scored a hit on the baddest homunculus, with a car no less, so I take back what I said. Glad he got his moment in the sun.

Chimeras vs Scar in japanese, enjoy without the blulululululu https://youtu.be/iUhaRhbKKbo

Thumbnails are back lets go. I have no idea why but the video not being embedded bugged me and it meant I couldn't watch vids on my phone cause for some reason the vimeo link player won't go landscape on my probably broken phone. Literally none of this is important at all to FMA or the reaction lmao, so uhhh cool fight scenes and Yoki did something pog

agoodwintv

I found a workaround, thankfully, so hopefully that won't be a problem going forward :)

Nick

Subs for this show are fantastic but there are also times when I think the dub outshines it. Particularly the next 2 episodes with Roy Mustang show this (but mainly his English VA is just a legend) Hard for me to say which I prefer but I have associated the characters with their dub voices by now. Both are great though

Jackie

I have this landscape issue as well, and it only happens if I access the link through Patreon. I resolve this by copying the link onto Safari or Chrome, and the videos can be watched on landscape mode.

benj

@jackie Smart, should've thought of this when I was on a ski trip this past weekend, wasn't able to watch any Goodwin lmao I was pissed

Pride: "Mrs. Bradley once tried to protect me from getting run over by a car, she didn't know I could have saved myself" Yoki: "Let's test that theory"

Jonathan Canfield

"Why don't I lend you a hand full metal?" Thats pretty savage to say to the person missing an arm.

“My spit’s drying up” “Oh thank god” My favorite running joke of the series

Scott McKennedy

Kimblee is such an amazing character, I would watch a whole show just about him ngl

Nick

He's conducting symphonies of destruction in Kimblee heaven now... even though he is definitely not someone that would go to heaven. Although honestly, a great conversation would be Kimblee talking to Truth and trying to find flaws in its existence and logic I kind of want the creator of tbe manga to make that a canon conversation somehow lol

Sitasien

I find it perfect that sloth is the fastest humonculus, The epitomy of sloth is to have the capability of doing something yet choosing not too because of laziness

agoodwintv

I have a visual image of Kimblee wagging his finger at Truth, "so you're saying that..."

I love the fact that the series has been building Al up to this point, like. We've heard the entire series that he is the better fighter, and now with the Stone he took on Pride AND Kimbley
