Talita: Nooooooo do not look at me or consider my non-human body and the problems it causes (crumbles into ash)

Talita's flustered face is so cute. Even for humans there's a lot of "working around" things in sign language. (missing fingers/hands/arms, vision impairments, etc.) so I think it really just comes down to being willing to try.

ohhh, shes blushing! its so cute :3

i don’t know much about sign language (would love to learn though) so i have to wonder: how much more difficult does having one less digit make sign language? like like i’m sure there are road blocks, but i’m also sure there are humans who speak sign language that only have four digits to at least one hand, too. i also know the face often comes into play so i don’t really know how that complicates things either. i’d just be really interested to learn more of the logistics of talita’s version of sign language! also, talita’s ‘blush’ is so cute <3 she’s so easily flustered, it’s adorable~

Talita is making excuses to avoid talking about her actual roadblock here 😭

Is it meant to be xenolingiusts instead of xenolinguists? It looks to me like you switched the i and the u around but it might just be a regional difference or something

since ASL is substituted for Jovian Sign Language, would it make sense to "add" a digit from the other hand, and otherwise sign one-handed? ASL is fairly legible one-handed, what with the dominant hand doing most of the work.

her fluff-blush is SO powerful here

Gillie and Idrisah's smiles: not only would they help figure out how to do sign language on a different hand shape than it was designed for, they would positively enjoy it. Happy linguists! (Also it's always nice when someone is willing to learn your language. Respect to everyone who learns other languages.)

I love what I assume is a blush.

I would give Talita so many hugs. Body dysmorphia and a fair amount of dysphoria I'd also say, can play absolute HELL on your sense of self confidence, in any area of activity.

Poor Talita! My reading is that she’s less anxious about the hand differences thing, and more anxious about being misread due to her differences. Learning any language is stressful, cause messing up is embarrassing. “The overwhelming fear of being perceived” and all that also plays in I would assume.

"There's a lot to work around" poor Talita has been the resident A Lot To Work Around... *a lot*. But Gillie and Idrisah get it, albeit from slightly different perspectives, and their welcoming kindness means so much. If they weren't so good with her, I doubt Talita would have the nerve to even try. (They brought a very nice species-appropriate treat *just for her!* Talita has to have attended a lot of meetings and get-togethers where she had to bring her own food or just resign herself to eating later.)

What does Talita's voice sounds like? I just assumed she sounded perfectly human but now that I think about it it's improbable our sound producing anatomy is that close

She's kind of high pitched, nasal, and warbling, with some difficulty pronouncing dental consonants distinctly. I did a little bit of voiceacting for her here but I'm not a terribly good sound design so take it with a grain of salt: https://jayeaton.site/Art/RttS/Animation/ShyamHandFlap
