Hi, I got sidetracked from comics recently so in the meantime here's a sketch animation of Talita galloping.

I'm kind of tempted to make this the fastest gait of centaurs rather than the cat-like alternating sprint I had previously, because it's based on actual research of actual hexapods. The step pattern is taken from the 'Bipod-B' gait in this paper on fruit flies.

tl;dr is that it's a faster gait than alternating tripods, because there's better continuity of motion between foot contact. Of course it gets more complicated than that for me, because centaurs are built more like a horse than a fruit fly and they've got a lot more weight and vertical bracing going on... not to mention the fact their legs are on separate body segments, which also react to dynamically to the leg movement... argghhh. This animation also shows how centaur breathing sinks up with the leg movement in a sprint, the air gets pushed the through body continuously partly by the sprint itself.

I'd like to make this as detailed as the walking animation I did of Talita, but instead of taking forever to draw all the finished frames, this one is going to take forever to get the timing of the sketch animation just so.

Weird question but the shuttering side nostrils caught my attention. Do centaurs in lands with lots of sand (e.g inland/desert areas) have to worry about breathing in air heavy with particulates through the big side holes? Like during a windy day for example. Also does clothing that covers them affect how well they can breath?

Air goes through centaurs in one direction: in through the trunk and out through the side nostrils. The exception is the vocal lung in the head, which pushes air back out through the trunk

God this looks SO sick

The trunk isn’t responsible for inhaling. Her nostrils are a separate feature on her face and are the ones that handle breathing for both her headlungs (vocalization) and main lungs (circulation), according to previous animations. You’re right about the side nostrils only exhaling though.

I love how even sketch Talita has her glasses XD
