I decided that considering how many possible gaits there are for hexapodal motion, I wanted to try portraying at least 3. This is a "rolling" walk, alternating tripod trot, and the same sprint animation from the previous WIP post, getting closer to being refined. I decided that I makes more sense for centaurs to mostly stabilize their head while they walk or run, sort of like a bird.

this looks a lot like how camels do these speeds as opposed to how horses do. Interesting.

They seem to have a very smooth gait. Much less jostle than a horse.

Oh i just really love your animation work, its especially cool to see the centaur animations!

That's an apex predator right there! Head stability would make tracking and eventually catching prey more accurate.

is it a little easier now to look at quadrupedal motion with them upright, having the keyframes?

Jay Eaton

Well, quadrupedal motion is always easier since there's a much wider base of real gait references to draw from (and less limbs to keep track of...) But having these around is definitely gonna be helpful if I ever animate Talita walking in a human building or running.

I will probably be adding more jostle to the finished cycles, centaurs have spine flexibility more similar to wolf than a horse. Body movement is the most frustrating part to adjust for, so I've been putting it off... 😔
