Lmfao I only got into anime and manga now in my 20s, if I had discovered it back in high school I would definitely still have been obsessed, it would have been over for me

I think for me personally the aesthetics and good visuals immediately is what gets my attention when it comes to anime . I am just as sucker for good aesthetics and very well animated shows. But character writing is what keeps me hooked and makes it a memorable experience. Shows like Hunter x Hunter, Vinland Saga, Gintama , Psycho pass and fate zero with really strong character writing are probably among my all time favorite shows. Same can be said about other mediums too. As for JJK . the author of the series is very aware of shounen tropes and probably grew up with same stuff as we. Bleach , Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu hakusho and more are pretty big influences for JJK. So its has all that in a very modern package for character writing , world and overall approach to storytelling

The author actually said they were inspired by Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho mostly, but confirmed they took inspiration from a lot of the top shonen from those era because that's what they read growing up. There'sfor sure some HxH in here too with the way cursed energy works and the explanation with the cans etc
