I’m wild guessing that one of the artificial food color (I remember HK BBQ flavor chips has some red and sharp yellow color dots on it?) is banned in EU and UK, similar to old generation Cantonese cuisine’s 大紅浙醋. 

If you observe carefully in the UK and EU, the Cantonese red vinegar is not as red as those in HK and USA. Multinational US companies (Kraft, Coke, Mars) also reformulated their products for their UK market.

I’m 100% sure that the ones that you see in Chinatown got into the market through “shady” channels, aka 水貨. That will be another seminar topic for import & export, black market, gangster history, migrational patterns in the UK. 😉//
