One of my favorite things about one piece is that in being very classic and holding to form it eventually becomes unique. “The subversion of narrative” or “challenging the medium” has become so common in modern times that it’s actually become its own genre in and of itself and it often feels very disingenuous as writers step into a genre with the sole intent of subverting it and not holding to there initial prompt. One piece proudly holds to its initial prompt even decades later it’s ridiculous but it can take its own ridiculousness seriously if that makes any sense? Instead of self consciously tearing itself down all the time.
