(public post)

dear ones ...

i just woke up in london and saw the news. i saw the news today. oh boy. the united kingdom has marched towards the right in droves.

i don't know what to say except....i am so, so sorry, UK. we tried.

i texted brian eno and told him it was basically my fault, i didn't do a good enough job on the kazoo in our "everything's on the up with tories" song. we agreed that we should remix it with everything - all kazoos included - panned hard right with nothing in the left channel but the sound of distant burning bushfires....and, brian's suggestion: "nothing in the centre of the mix but an empty vacuum".

but seriously. it is so hard to have hope when so many people seem to believe that the needy should be ignored. that nobody but the rich and privileged deserve healthcare, and that building walls and borders and keeping immigrants out is the only way to go.

i dunno know, y'all. it's feeling lonely.

At least TONIGHT WILL NOT BE LONELY.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to be playing tonight in london. at least we can make some light in the dark. maybe. and we are streaming to the whole community. please - join in if you can to send love to london. and also we are going to add a charity component to the show tonight given how bad the political news is. this was alex the merch queen's idea and i’m glad he had it.

ok

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT TONIGHT'S WEBCAST:

we'll be putting the stream on at 6:15pm GMT london time (find your timezone here), the concert itself will start promptly at 6:30pm and we'll broadcast until about 10:30pm.

you can read this patreon post for some more details (it's patron only) including the link to tonight's webcast to get in early and RSVP on crowdcast, the site we'll be streaming on.

in the 15 minutes before the concert starts, we'll have a special GUEST STREAM HOST in front of the camera interviewing patrons and hosting the evening for you. meet cal, our hype queen and hostess. cal and i collided in edinburgh a few months ago and became fast friends; she's a scientist, musician and trans-activist and an all-round amazing person. (here’s a link to cal’s music). she'll also be interviewing patrons during the 20 minute intermission so there will be continuous footage for your viewing pleasure, even when i'm off stage.

AND because we can do our part to make our communities and our world a little brighter, we decided moments ago, let's do some good while we can.....

i will be donating 50% of net proceeds from the merch sales to:

The Margins Project. Union Chapel's charitable organisation.

if you would like to make a financial donation of your own, or find out more about The Margins Project head to:

https://www.unionchapel.org.uk/get-involved/donate/the-margins-project/

if you’re attending the show and would like to bring financial donations or donate goods tonight and tomorrow night, they will be accepting them at the box office. please note that fresh food is not accepted.

Margins is focusing on donations of:

- Backpacks

- Toiletries

- Socks

- Underwear

- Scarves

- Gloves

- Coats

- Robust boots

- Tinned food

i'll be posting here on patreon right before we go live with the broadcast tonight, but if you're planning to tune in, you can make sure your account is ready to go by making sure that you're logged into patreon and you've connected your crowdcast account to your patreon account by clicking the RSVP link for tonight's broadcast: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/afp-20191213

see you out there loves.

I feel your pain. I live in Brazil and got DEVASTATED by Bolsonaro's victory. I'm not sure if there's something we can do but resist and wait for the extreme right to implode itself with stupid decisions. They have Cambridge Analytica, they have misinformation, they have no ethics. We have ourselves. At least we have ourselves.

Spent yesterday helping to elect our amazing, young, gay, female, socialist MP with the biggest majority in Scotland so whilst sad at the big picture, very happy with our local contribution.

Can we watch this stream on TV? I tend to stream things through xbox but not sure where to start with this one.

AMANDA I’M TOO SAD. (In all serious, I’m really regretting not getting off work for the London gigs. I wish I could be in a healing space with all of you right now.) I just wrote this in my break. Fuck it, Said the people, Clutching ballot pens they’d brought, (They didn’t trust the pencils, They thought such tampering thoughts). Fuck it, Said the people, We don’t need things like truth, We don’t want manifestos, We just want Them to lose All of their safety and security, Til they pull their bootstraps right. Fuck it, Said the people, We know what’s right from Right. Fuck it, Said Pandora, When she opened up that box. When she brought out all that dark and fear, The idea of chasing a fox, With guns and hound and horse Because it’s fun, And should be law. And as bitterness and dread And pointing blame begin to spread, Fuck it, Thought pandora, Let the bad stuff all spill forth, Who cares about the darkness, I’ve got mine and you’ll get yours. And fuck it, Said the people, This cannot be our fault. Its the ones who disagreed, Didn’t believe Or thought we’d hold On to precious things now sold. Fuck it, Said the people. Stop mourning your loss, Get up and try again, Enough survived last time, Don’t get cross about the headstones Of the ones who stayed laid down, Don’t say you can’t come back strong from this, Resistance is now. Fuck it, said the people, Don’t you know it’s all your fault? Now stop sulking and get organised, Come fight with me, Or with me, Or fight the ones we might despise, And today I’m writing angry, In the beginning stage of grief, Today I’m shouting “fuck it”, Today there’s no relief. And tomorrow I will write you dreams, Of a better world to come. I’ll write you all the marching songs, We’ll write until we right the wrongs, I’ll even write you love. But right now, I’ll scream “fuck it”, At the end of my tethering rope. Tomorrow I’ll remember, The last thing from that box, From Pandora, That final thing, Was hope. (I really want to find hope)

sending love to everyone in the uk rn <3 does anyone need 2 tickets for saturday?

I have many UK friends, and years ago I observed that our countries are working in tandem... but maybe that was already set back in the 80's, and we got sidetracked after Thatcher left office, and stopped noticing? I don't know what to think anymore. We shall overcome? We shall endure, anyway. Can't stop the signal.

I really have to study for my maths exam, but hopefully the show in the background will give me some hope. Luckily, I've already seen you in Dunfermline so I don't feel too guilty about not being able to fully focus on your performance.

Today was a dark day. Parts of your show tonight were even darker. I thank you for your courage and honesty. You caught me unawares at one point and I never got the chance to call out "Amanda, I'm feeling sad" before I flooded with tears and had to step out of the chapel for the last part of Machete- but I thank you for that too. It was something you said about Anthony and the paradox between his gentleness and his love of weapons - and the reasoning behind that. Suddenly you gave me an insight into my brother that I wished I'd had before he was killed. and yet, still, even now, it gives me a new perspective on him and upon our relationship, but tonight that is still a little raw. My heart goes out to you that you have to share these thoughts and emotions again as the tour goes on. It can't be easy...but if you can...
