HEY LOVES -

the london dresden dolls tickets are selling out AS WE SPEAK - good luck with getting tickets. the original pre-sale allotment was about half the tickets (about 1500 per night) and you BLEW THEM OUT OF THE WATER. we just got the venue to give us even MORE tickets for pre-sale at 5pm BST more tickets will be available. i'll let you know how the sales go....i'm so excited for those shows i can't tell you. the pre-sale link is below, it was sent out to the AFP mailer and dolls mailer this morning: https://www.axs.com/uk/series/6411/the-dresden-dolls-artist-presale-tickets?skin=goldenvoiceuk

you're welcome.

now....

a few things.

i'm on an off/admin day in london. catching up on emails, mainlining coffees, working on my public theater script, playing in the sun with ash and doing the round of swings, slide, swings and slide again and again, sending notes to a friend about her book, incubating some song lyrics, trying not to take the broken trauma of the universe personally. this is an off day. yes.

my back is better! i'm getting myself a massage today and hauling myself into a pilates class. i'm not gonna be able to make it through 2019 if i don't up my back game. twisting at that fucking piano is a right pain in the ass, and i'm only really starting to understand how different it physically is to play a piano-piano instead of a keyboard. i don't know if you've really clocked it (i've barely clocked it) but i've been a KEYBOARD player for about 20 years and i'm turning into a GRAND PIANO player. my solo shows are now going to be keyboard free. i finally drank the ben folds kool-aid on that one (he won't touch a keyboard in any circumstances). funny enough: the dresden dolls literally can't function with a piano-piano (brian and i can't see each other - we've tried it tons of times) and i sort of carried those habits over into my solo era. it's time. but it has changed the whole physical shape of my torso and limbs on stage and i have to learn how to cope with a new stage-body.

look at that posture.

look at this twisty woman. and pregnant no less (this is from about 3 years ago.

always learning.

mercury & maxim

Mercury & Maxim present ‘Queerstory: The Music Hall’
Queerstory is a musical cabaret about the history of queer culture and queer identity. From the coded languages of forbidden desire to the modern fight for equality in gender identity, Queerstory sees international cabaret artiste Mercury and musical academic Maxim Melton collaborate to ask the question - What does it mean to be queer?

Think polari patter songs, vintage protest anthems, and a rather thorough examination of the hanky code...

laura kidd (she makes war)

She Makes War is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist producer and visual artist Laura Kidd, based in Bristol, UK. She's released three albums, several EPs and tons of music videos independently with freshly crowdfunded LP "Brace For Impact" due out in September. Visit http://www.shemakeswar.com to pledge on the new record, nab some freebies and admire her gorgeous dogs.

meth

Meth has stormed the UK scene in a relentless revolutionary charge of strange and seductive extravagance.

The mistress of internationally acclaimed Drag show The Meth Lab and  self proclaimed female-surrealist; Meth has quickly earned an infamous  reputation around the world for her bizarre and beautiful spin on Drag.

A member of the queer performance collective The Familyyy Fierce and a star of the London Live's Docu-Soap series Drag Queens of London, Meth is turning out an army of addicted  lil’ Meth Heads who are screaming for more and more and more...

Remember kids: Drugs are bad...
Don’t do drugs, do Meth.

.................

aaaaand if all goes well there will be a few SURPRISES.

TUNE IN!

................

ALSO.....leaving london for a moment and waving over to new york:

WOODSTOCK GOTH THROWDOWN!

ash's, ahem, assistant is justine & a lot of you have met her at shows and in life and whatnot. she's an anarchist vegan french goth who has an even harder time than i do being stuck in the woods of upstate new york...AND we're going to be stuck in the woods when her birthday happens (june 23rd) ....

(justine & ash in paris/ photo by quentin caffier at studio five monkeys)

.....and i figured the best thing i could do for her birthday was to throw her a goddamn goth dance party. so i am. we just need dancing goth people at the party - that's where you come in.

there will be a dj and at least one band from NYC. and i’ll also hop on stage and play some cure or depeche mode covers while wearing a black veil or something.

this place is TINY and i made the show super super cheap....tickets will disappear. don't come if you can't handle the goth vibe. we might even get a fog machine. it's gonna be like that.

DD are coming all the way to Europe, so what's 1600 kilometers, right?? Two broke students coming your way on Halloween all the way from Czech republic ♥ We'll prolly be living on bread and water for the rest of the year, but fuck, we can't miss this!!

I am SO EXCITED for this stream. Thank you thank you thank you!! AND ism so happilyhappy to have acquired 2 tickets for the Dresden Dolls on October 30. Flying in from Berlin - can't wait!!!!

Anonymous

Just to be sure, it's the 22nd you're streaming, yes? Also I don't play piano so I have no idea have viable it would be, but would a rotating stool that allowed you to face both the piano and crowd work? I know it would need to be very stable, but just a thought.

I've had back issues since I was 12. One thing I've noticed is that when I'm at a convention all laced up in a corset, my back almost never hurts. It might not be the most convenient or comfortable, but I know you've played in a corset before. With an added bonus of being sexy as fuck, it might help your back, even if not laced up tight. Underbust is better for breathing and my favorite for longer wearing times.

Sallita Morales

The DD and AFP email never came through which is weird. I always get the AFP mailer. Anyway managed to snag tickets for Halloween thanks to this post and the very kind ‘extra pre-sale’ allotment. Stoked to hear about the streaming. The birthdsy party sounds epic. Have a good one Justine.

I can't wait for June 23rd 😍😍😍

Michela M.

I like it when you webcast from the UK, it's a friendlier time zone for us in Europe! 👍😊❤️

amandapalmer

funny you should mention that - i literally just bought two new cheap corsets in camden and used them as back-braces (under my t-shirt) in brighton and it totally worked. so there we go.

Urgh! My birthday is June 23rd, and I’m a goth ukulele witch. But I live in Copenhagen and have no way of making it to the party. Guess it’s okay since I really don’t dance that much. Happy our birthday, Justine ;-)

I am going to close my eyes and pretend I am there. I wish to see this so much. So I will see if astral projection is a myth. Happy belated birthday.

Tailored corsets are a whole other world of comfort. If you plan on doing it long term, commissioning one would be worth it. My friend, Kitty, runs Crimson Rose Corsetry and Couture in Colorado. EXCELLENT work if you're out and about here. But really any custom corset will help oodles.

ALFRED STUDWELL

Awesome Amanda! Thanks for the show. I'm ready!

Tamara

You had me at Depeche Mode covers in a cemetery. Dammit, right in the middle of my Asheville adventure. Want to visit Asheville?

Tamara

Fuck it, bought tickets anyway. Holy shit, this might finally happen! I hope I can squeak away for, like, an overnight mother crone soul charge.

Like another poster I didn’t receive the emails, has me scratching my head. I always get the afp one and I signed up for the dd one when you sent the link. Should I be concerned I wonder...?

Anonymous

Because I’ll be goddamned if dd come to California and I miss the presale!
