I've been working in After Effects for years without ever really using shape layers. But they are powerful tool, especially for the flat motion graphics style so popular these days (and in the '60s). So I've been gradually incorporating them into my work. The visuals in CD/ videos are made almost entirely using shape layers.

In this fast-paced ~25-min tutorial I explain my approach to working with shapes by walking you through building and animating... what else - the Captain Disillusion logo, of course.
