Watching it as you watch it is difficult since you ask so many questions. Haha. He has been acting since, I believe, 6 years old. Not his first movie, not even his first in the states (that is "Cannonball Run" with Burt Reynolds before he even learned English). Most of his best movies are Non-American since America has regulations and tends to make his dangerous job more and more limited, thus lesser stuntwork and action than in Hong Kong. And the boat is called a 'junk'. Just another in so many questions answered. Unfortunately, I have to leave for a few hours. Try doing this with live feed, somehow. Easier on me. Hahahahahahahahahah.

Also, if you saw "Kung Fu Panda", you saw a Jackie Chan movie. He was Monkey.

Cannonball Run is a good movie suggestion. Both I and II are very fun movies. If you like good 'ol boy silliness, Burt Reynolds movies are the way to go.

Tyler Foster

The fact that it's dubbed (and edited) is the reason the dialogue is awkward and weird, because at the time, they would just try to sort of match lips instead of translating the dialogue. So the whole script is mildly rewritten to accommodate this, and it leads to lines that are phrased strangely or just seem unnecessary.

Tyler Foster

I would recommend Shanghai Knights (by far his most impressive American stunt work) and Drunken Master II (known as The Legend of Drunken Master in the US) for more Jackie action. You might also enjoy the original Police Story (First Strike is actually Police Story 4), although it gets pretty dark.

Tyler Foster

It wasn't until he made Police Story 3 that they used sync sound, so all of the dialogue in any Jackie Chan movies older than 1992 are completely dubbed anyway, even in the original Cantonese. It's very similar to 1960s Italian films, where everyone would speak their own language on set, and then they would dub everyone in post-production, meaning there is no "original language."

Brent Fugett

Definitely not his first, he's got a bunch in the 70's, basically another Bruce Lee, martial arts thrillers etc. Definitely should check out the Rush Hour movies with Chris Tucker; heeeeelarious and awesome mix of comedy action and drama.

I love Jackie Chan! Did you know that, in his entire acting history, he broke every single bone in his body including his back from jumping of a wall into a tree (his worst ingury to date) You realy should watch also The Police Story and Wheels on Meals is also very good!

If you want to do some JC research, there is a video by "Every Frame a Painting" which quickly goes over his history, and shows a lot of the behind the camera. It is a good breakdown of Jackie as a movie director directing himself and how he is the only real action/comedy director. I am attaching the link to the page on YouTube, but you can easily find it as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1PCtIaM_GQ

Yeah, JC was the hint I gave you the other day, and my profile picture on YouTube is Jackie holding the ladder in a fighting stance. Similar to my profile picture here.

Moni Castaneda

Thank you! that was fun, it's been a while since I watched a Jackie Chan movie, I think I watch this one but it was a while ago... it was fun!

SplinterTME

This was great. if I had one complaint it is that I kept having to pause it and come back to it due to IRL things. Would it be possible for you to put a running timer in the corner so that people like me can easily resync the videos?

Edward Olson

An on-screen time code would be annoying and distracting. Don't your video players have played time on them when you hover over the place marker? Every single one of mine do. The easiest solution? Join the Beans tier and have them synced for you all the time!

He did his best work in the '80 imo.... Top 5: (in no particualar order) Police Story '85 Armour of God '87 Wheels on Meals '84 The Protector '85 Project A '83

now you have to Watch Police Story.

Welcome to the nutso world of Jackie Chan. I think you asked at one point what you do with your mask full of water in the diving scenes. It was quick so I'm not sure if that was the question. If it was, you tip your head back, pull the bottom of the mask away from your face, and blow out through your nose. The mask fills up with air and forces the water out the bottom of the mask. It's easier than it sounds.

Still shaking my head at the choice of 'First Strike' as the Jackie Chan movie of choice - well, apart from the fact that it was a Patreon choice. There are so many better Jackie films to watch, with better action and fighting sequences. Oh well, they only get better :)

Never seen a Jackie Chan movie. This made me want to. Thanks!

David Bennett

Ashleigh, are you gonna watch more Jackie Chan films? He's made many, Many, MANY and some of them are totally worth the watch. Rumble in the Bronx Drunken Master (1978) Shanghai Noon/Nights Rush Hour series Operation Condor Super Cop Who am I? (1998 version NOT the remake, remake SUCKS BALLS) all of these are good choices in my opinion....
