WOOO! Really excited to see what you think of episode 12 <3

SmokeAndACoffee

Gaaaw! The Great Divide doesn't suck! I think it's just that anytime you ever saw ATLA reruns, nine times outta ten it was THAT episode! I think people just got really tired of it lol

Ben Wheeler

The Fire Lord was voiced by Mark Hamill/aka Luke Skywalker/aka The Joker

Darryl Low

I thought the Great Divide was a fun episode, and very cleverly named. "One of you is watching CNN, the other is watching Fox" ha ha 😂 Ep.12 was impressive, with some really cool animation and great music. Loved it and loved your reaction Nat. Thanks for an entertaining video today 💛

Hi Nat and thank you for this nice reaction! 😄 The episode 11 is definitely the least liked episode hahaha, however just because there were "spiders", and you really don't like them, it was worth it at least haha, and now that's done. I love episode 12, I love when we learn more about characters, etc and here it's well brought. I'm really looking forward and confident for your next reactions! 😄 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Aang has arrow tattoos because he's a master airbender. The other kids aren't yet.

I'm having so much fun re-watching these with you! The great divide isn't an important episode or anything but it's still good! I can't wait to see your reaction to the end of this season, it's one of my favorite parts of the whole show!

Ah yes, time to meet Fire Lord Skywalker

Hi Nat! I really enjoyed your reaction! 😁 So this isn’t mentioned in the series, so these aren’t spoilers. The reason why aang doesn't get cold is because he bends the air currents around him. It’s a special airbending trick to regulate his own body temperature. Which is why you never saw him wearing extra clothes in the South Pole. As for his tattoos; you get tattoos when you master airbending. He got the tattoos early because he had already mastered 35 airbending forms and invented a new one (the air scooter), making it 36. Looking forward to your next reactions! ❤️

Episode 12 is great, it's nice to fill in some of the gaps in the backgrounds for both Aang and Zuko. Totally forgot it's the first time we see Azula!

It's insane when this show goes from being a good kid's show to being like better than Game of Thrones in the second season.

Ulrich Unterbrunner

12 is another great lore filler. 11 is more a "what the avatar does" thing. Just to bring emphasis to the travel time - a thing that gets subsequently less prominent, like with any other show. The laugh at about three and a half minutes before episode 12 ends, was also very "Zach Tyler Eisen as Aang"-like. Just had the same ring in my ears :)

It's kinda fun that the worst and best episodes of season one are back to back lol! Thank you so much for reacting to this series, every time I get the email saying you've posted a new avatar video it makes my day!

I think The Great Divide is fine. A lot of the dislike comes from the fact that it's largely disposable in the greater story. That would be enough for fans to move it down in their rankings. But because it's basically a stand-alone episode that doesn't factor into the serial storytelling, it was also the most re-run episode of AtLA when the show was airing. So in addition to it being an unpopular episode, it was also the one people saw the most. Those two things together make it unpopular in the fandom. But I think if you're just watching the show on a streaming service like this, it's forgettable, but fine.

I love watching your reactions to this all time favorite childhood show of mine! One interesting fact about episode 12 is that the way they show how the avatar is identified with the toys is actually very similar to how real monks determine the identity of the next incarnation of the Dalai Lama

You have a keen eye btw. Love the reaction to this series. This show gets better and better through this season and especially season 2!

Oh, the things Nat said in this one ... makes me all tingly.

people disliking this episode is just a meme at this point, there's nothing wrong with it.

So, here we have two extremes, one of the most reviled episodes followed immediately with one of the best. I've never understood the hatred "The Great Divide" seems to get. No, it's not the best episode, but it's not terrible either. Yes it's childish, and the message is simplistic, but we could probably find other lessons besides the obvious one. For me, it's a reminder that history often isn't what we think it is. "The Storm" reveals the motives of Aang and Zuko. This is not the last time their stories will be told in parallel. And you noticed something that will become very important later. A couple of them, actually. Also note, this is the second time Zuko has had the Avatar in his sights (well, last time it was just Appa), but turned away to take care of other matters. Then it was saving his uncle, and now it's saving his crew. So, as obsessed with regaining his honor as he is, it's not to the point that he's willing to sacrifice others for it.

FatLittleButterfly

not sure if it was mentioned in previous comment, but you get the arrow tattoos when you become a master and part of it is inventing a new move. Aang became a master and he invented the air scooter thingy

Garrick Smalley

Loved the "One of you is watching CNN, the other is watching Fox" quip. I like the episode because it is the first time I remember Aang making up a lie from whole cloth in order to help people get past their bs. Episode 12 is the first time I remember seeing a "kids show" spelling out that the father of a child is the one who maimed their child for the whole world to see. Parental abuse is no laughing matter and to see it brought up here in an animated show shows courage from the writers. To show it in conjunction with the emotional abuse from the monks to Aang... I have mad respect for this show. Loving your reactions Natalie.

Hi! So I'm a bit late to the channel and catching up with your uploads lol. I just wanted to say that the Fire Nation and their strong honor code is heavily based in Japanese culture, specifically Imperial Japan. Hair is closely linked to honor, so Zuko shaving everything except for his ponytail is a sign of shame from a humiliating defeat. Along with his scar, it's an extra layer of visible shame that adds insult to injury... literally. Pay attention to hair in the show, it usually has a deeper meaning ;) Loving rewatching the show with you, looking forward to the next one!
