Hey guys!

I know it's still January, but we're way ahead of YouTube in terms of the video release schedule, so it's time to pick a film for Black History month!

Honestly, I wish I could watch all of these this coming month, but for now we have to pick just one. I know these are all vastly different genres, but I tried to pick films that are based on true stories. Looking forward to seeing what you guys pick and if I'll need multiple boxes of tissues or not...

Until the next one, ✨stay golden!✨

Always wanted to watch 12 years a slave just never got rd to it and now I've voted for it it's got no chance haha so guess my wait will continue 🤷

Anonymous

When I read the notification my mind instantly went to Hidden Figures. Such a great movie! So glad you consider it.

Steven Merced

Best movie on this list is One Night in Miami. Why would anyone want to watch Natalie react to a slavery movie that is going to be hard to watch. The movie is so brutal and just gonna be uncomfortable. I hope literally any other movie wins.

Anonymous

Errrrrr; no Twelve Years A Slave please. ANY reactor using this film for a ''reaction video'' is as gross, awful and Fucking scummy as those who also use Schindler's List.....The latter goes infinitely for whoever suggested it... It's so not cricket... -Thanks

Ilsuk Yang

I haven't seen The Last Black Man in San Francisco or One Night in Miami, but you can't go wrong with other 3!

Darryl Low

So glad that you are watching another movie for BHM Nat. Only seen 12 Years from this list so I'm looking forward to watching whatever wins. Thanks Nat 💛

Lucky Dragon ‘She.They’

What makes you think that? It's not like watching a film about slavery or the Holocaust means they are saying it was a good thing that happened

Matthew Periolat

Oooo, tough tough call. Truth be told, so many Black History movies to watch, not just the true stories. My vote went to One Night in Miami, but fine with any of the above. I would also plead a case for, especially this year, In the Heat of the Night and Guess Whose Coming to Dinner?

Anonymous

The color purple

Eric Wilder

I suggest Judas and the Black Messiah

Randee Carreno

Happy Wednesday, Natalie! 😊 I had a hard time deciding between "Remember the Titans" and "Hidden Figures". Both are great movies. I ended up voting for "Hidden Figures" since I'm in the middle of re-reading the book. Have a great day today! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

RandomAndysChannel

12 years a slave is a great but hard movie to watch. Hope that wins. One Night in Miami is great

Nya

Hidden figures is one of my favorite movies. Im so happy its on the list!

Patrick Egan

Had to vote for Remember The Titans, since it's a local story for me. Plus it's a really good movie :) I would also highly recommend 42, the movie about Jackie Robinson starring Chadwick Boseman.

Lisa Tosti

Oh I really hope it's Remember the Titans! I listen to Fake Doctors, Real Friends and listening to Donald Faison talk about his experience on this movie made me go back recently to watch it and its is AMAZING! Such a good movie!

Windfury

I really recommend Hidden Figures, it's such a good story about things that most people really aren't very aware of. Also, not harsh from a physical perspective even though it still has to deal with the racism of the era.

Alex Densmore

42 is a good movie too. Tells the story of Jackie Robinson who was the first black player in baseball and he’s played by Chadwick Boseman. An insane movie and it’s totally worth checking out.

john collins

remember the titans is one of my all time favorites! can't wait!

Fuzzy Dunlop

"Glory" should be in the poll, but I'll vote anyways. :)

Anonymous

Remember the Titans should totally not be on this list, lol. Its a goofy ass Disney movie.

Fredrik Larsson

Hidden Figures is the best one!

Anonymous

I second Judas and the Black Messiah and would also suggest Menace II Society, BlacKkKlansman, Do the Right Thing, Moonlight, and If Beale Street Could Talk.

asia roberson

Please watch remember the titans

Joe Blankenship

I voted Hidden Figures. I think Natalie would enjoy that one the most, but I haven't seen all of these.

Tay Schumaker

Judas and the Black Messiah would have been a good inclusion.

Anonymous

I can recommend 'The Passing' with Tessa Thompson, nothing outstanding but it plays with the topic of people of colour trying to fit in during the 50's and its an interesting watch. definetly better than any slave movie that does nothing but violently show black people suffering on screen for 2 hours.

Anonymous

Who’s voting for Remember the Titans? Cmon man! Also where’s Fruitvale Statioy, Do the Right Thing, Selma, Judas and the Black Messiah?

TC Elba

as much as 12 years is a good movie I think for black history month is not great. when ever people think of black history first thing people think of is slavery. that's why I picked hidden figures more emphasis should be put on some of the great things black people have done

Anonymous

Putney Swope

The Hedge Knight

Hidden Figures is a great one. Also would suggest Marshall.

Anonymous

There are lots of good Black movies that aren't necessarily serious historical biopics too! House Party (1990) Sister Act (1992) Sorry to Bother You (2018) Bad Hair (2020) Lovers Rock (2020) Get Out (2017) Us (2019)

Anonymous

Personally I voted for One Night in Miami lol. Love that movie and it's not super sad

Anonymous

Django: Unchained

Dooly

Something with Sidney Poitier would have been nice. Pay some respect to a legend, you know? That aside, the choices on that list are rather weak.

Anonymous

I am in Kansas City and soooo footballed out right now. Plus, Remember the Titans is one trope after another. Please give the ladies of Hidden Figures a chance. It's intellectual, inspirational, and filled with strong female leads.

Anonymous

Could I recommend a serie? The Underground Railroad

Anonymous

Many great suggestions. My favorite here is BlacKkKlansman. Such a good movie.

Essero Eson

Are we just not getting wednesday content anymore or is this temporary?

Rev.J

Hidden Figures more positive.

Mati D.

I love Hidden Figures and Titans, happy with both =D

In the Heat of the Night

Peter Yocum

Malcom X by a mile

Kelsey Roberts

WHAT IS PAIN? FRENCH BREAD! WHAT IS FATIGUE? ARMY CLOTHES!

Django is the move

the green book is an excellent movie for this sorta thing :)

Anonymous

You haven’t done documentaries but I Am Not Your Negro is powerful https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Am_Not_Your_Negro

Ulrich Unterbrunner

I go for remember the Titans. Hidden Figures is also great, but they condensed too much issues into the picture, that were not accurate for NASA in the 60's anymore (like the toilet thing) - not that they were not an issue in other places or even outside the complex.

Cory Silver

I feel like I always get to these things when it's set in stone, this one is close though. 12 Years a Slave would be my pick, but there are some others. Driving Ms. Daisy Roots Amistad ** GLORY ** Not a "full" movie, but partially a documentary. It's not like a Ken Burns thing though. Exterminate all the Brutes https://www.newyorker.com/culture/the-front-row/exterminate-all-the-brutes-reviewed-a-vast-agonizing-history-of-white-supremacy Maybe... if you want to go above and beyond with it. I say watch it on your own time at the very least. I vote for Glory though. (Glory will be on Hulu in February. (It's not there as I write this) https://www.justjared.com/2022/01/25/new-to-hulu-in-february-2022-full-list-released/

Ken Schneyer

Personally I think the new western The Harder They Fall would be a great BHM choice. I also agree with Jay Wacker that I Am Not Your Negro would be a good choice.

Ben Wheeler

I work at the railroad museum in Savannah Georgia where a huge chunk of Glory was shot :)

Niklas

Black Dynamite - seriously.

Anonymous

Where the he11 is The Green Book?!? Sigh.

JarHead0351

Hidden Figures was an eye opener and a great story that I never knew before this movie - here is another one that you should add Amistad, which is a great movie, In 1839, the revolt of Mende captives aboard a Spanish owned ship causes a major controversy in the United States when the ship is captured off the coast of Long Island. The courts must decide whether the Mende are slaves or legally free. it has some heavy hitter stars in it - great movie

Lawson

hidden figures is INCREDIBLE even if it doesn’t win you MUST watch it

Erik Stevenson

Ohh close poll! I'm definitely on the Hidden Figures bandwaggon.

Anonymous

These are all pretty good movies. But I really hope it’s not 12 years a slave because watching a movie about black people suffering for 2 hours during Black History Month is not the move 😬.

Cifer

Amistad Add it to a list for the future, you won't regret it.

Anonymous

Hidden figures is definitely your kind of movie! Trust me, you deffo need to react to it even if it doesn’t win

Armchair Wizard

please, please, remember the titans lol.

Anonymous

Glory is another good one.

JayF

Hidden Figures is easily the best of these for you. 12 Years a Slave is very good but very depressing for obvious reasons. I've seen others suggest Glory and I'll also do that. The Tuskegee Airmen is another good one and so is Something the Lord Made.

Seph Hernandez

Hidden Figures is such an amazing film, the entire cast gives it their everything. But Taraji P Henson deserves special praise, her monologue scene is just....wow. Plus it's just lighthearted and funny enough that you won't have to reach for the tissues every 2 minutes (I feel a little bad for how much we've made you cry with our recommendations lately, with all of us crying alongside you haha).

David Crabtree

Of this bunch, Remember the Titans by a mile.

David Martin

Some of these movies aren’t necessarily accurate….Hidden Figures is true but they added something to it that wasn’t true and they do the same thing in 12 years a Slave. Also One Night in Miami isn’t true either. Even though Remember the Titans is one of my favorite movies(and I voted for it), we are more than just slave movies and civil rights movies. I definitely would have put Judas and the black Messiah, Malcom X, The BlackKlansman over some of these if you wanted to really touch on civil rights. We have great comedy and drama movies that would be great that don’t get a chance ever. With that said I think it’s great that your doing this.

Elisa H.

I made my votes 😊 if u decide to add another one Sidney Poitier died this month so maybe 'To sir with love' or 'in the heat of the night'. They aren't history based though just so u know

Yasin

Judas and the Black Messiah or BlackKlansman I would have preferred long before 12 Years a Slave. I would rather watch Friday than 12 Years a Slave.

Anonymous

The one I can rewatch the most is Remember the Titans, but the one that impacted me the most is One Night in Miami.

Seymor Butz

The underprivileged black sports movies are way too overdone. Hidden figures was an awesome breath of fresh air. Especially with the renewed focus on Mars.

Edward Of DOOM

If you've never seen 'Black Dynamite', you seriously need to consider it, one of the best comedies. If you want something serious, 'Marshall' starring Chadwick Boseman was amazing.

Anonymous

Didn't realize you could change your vote! ;)

Anonymous

When They See Us on Netflix would be a good mini series for Black History month. Historical drama series about the Central Park Five.

jamie jones

12 years a slave is easily the best movie out if the choices

Anonymous

I think that it's just less well-known / less seen (at least by this audience as a whole). Most likely if everyone had seen it, it would be winning :)

Anonymous

The lack of votes for The Last Black Man in San Francisco makes me sad. I do feel like 12 Years a Slave and Hidden Figures make the most sense for Black History Month. I do love Remember the Titans though. Great movie with a ton of heart. 12 Years a Slave is a very heavy film while hidden figures is a very inspirational film. Definitely some good choices here.

David Martin

Underprivileged and dealing with white supremacy is 2 different things…Remember the Titans would be the latter…Coach Carter or Gridiron Gang would be the former

Anonymous

12 Years A Slave is criminally low in this vote!! Like what!? Why would you not want to see Natalie cry an obscene amount on camera like never before!? Real talk though, I think she should watch it off camera because it's a real tough watch.

Thomas Richter

I never watched any of these movies.

YodatheHobbit

It was pretty good, but more oscar bate than any of the other movies. One of those movies which feels like it's created just so actors can win awards.

YodatheHobbit

I really hope hidden figures can pull ahead of Remember the Titans. Much more of an important film.

Nicholas Hentges

Yeah, I love remember the titans, but it has too many main character white people to be a good choice for black history month. Like the story is important, but incredibly disneyfied.

Nicholas Hentges

The family of the man that film is about say that it is a horrible representation of their family's history, so maybe a movie that hasn't been disowned by the subjects involved would be a better fit. Might be a good movie but never saw it because it was so very publicly trashed by the family.

Skizane

I'm pretty sure 12 Years A Slave would scar Natalie for life.

D Walraven

I would say “Glory” if you haven’t already seen it.

Jason Dolan

In the Heat of the Night would have been good, and timely.

chicks dig me

Watch it and weep. *https://youtu.be/SRJvE-Z6ez4*

Judas and the Black Messiah

panacamanana

Sad day for The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Poetic and beautiful. Nat would love it.

Anonymous

I came here to suggest 1989's Glory starring Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman and Matthew Broderick or 1990's Cadence starring Charlie Sheen and Laurence Fishburne (back when he was still billed as 'Larry' Fishburne), but after reading this entire thread, it seems the vast majority has already recommended Glory before me. In which case I say listen to your fans Nat; see if you can add in the extra film without a poll (wouldn't be the first time you watched a film solely based on community hype). - I have no doubt this post will warrant another "Just what you see pal" comment that has been frequenting these responses :p

Logan Kerlee

Voted for Hidden Figures because I've already seen We Are The Titans a million times. Solid movie, 100% but that's no chance that it's new for most anyone. I personally haven't seen Hidden Figures yet, but I'd love to. So that has my vote!

Snacky Munchies

"Cadence" is one of my favorites ty for suggesting it and remind me about it. If not watched on here I'm going to watch it myself

Anonymous

12 Years a Slave is a ridiculously good movie.. but I voted for Remember the Titans because nostalgia

Anonymous

The underground railroad was amazing, epic and powerful, one of the best mini series i've seen last year.

Anonymous

Bein black I wouldn't dare watch 12 yrs ever again or for Black History Month. Remember the Titans is barely a black movie. Hidden Figures is the 1 to watch or Last Black Man

I just watched One Night in Miami a coupe nights ago. It was fantastic.

David Crabtree

Looks like it's Remember the Titans for the win!

Jon Vaughan

12 years is an underrated masterpiece. It and Roots are the most profound and realistic portrayals of slavery ever put on screen.

John Rando

12 Years A Slave is undoubtedly the best on here. Sarah Paulson even said she thinks it’s one of the greatest movies of all time. I agree!

Anonymous

Glory should have definitely been on this list.
