People give this movie a bad rap, I thought it was fun. Excited to watch!

Looking forward to watching. Also, congrats on 5000 Patrons!

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 Downloading this right now to watch later tonight. I'm excited to watch this reaction to the next movie in the "X-Men" series. Have a great day & weekend! 😊 Stay Golden! 💛

Fauxfox

X3 is the one I have the most fond memories of. Can't wait to watch.

Four more to go...Four more to go...Four more to go...Four more to go...Four more to goooooooooo....eugh

Tony Johnson

Oh dear, this should be an interesting watch.

Dogs are awesome. Way better than people

Boomcity

So happy I became a Patreon supporter for these Friday afternoon watchalongs. :)

Jomero

Yeaaaahhhh. This one is a stinker. Bryan Singer bailed and jumped ship before this movie got into high gear (I think because he knew it wasn't going to be good). He went on to do Superman Returns instead. James Marsden also jumped ship along with him to that same movie too. From here on out the X-Men movies will be hit or miss. But, at least the misses will be great joke fodder for Deadpool (hence why you needed to watch these first).

Ian

Congratulations on reaching 5k again Nat and ty for the great content this week even though you have been not feeling great we appreciate all you do very much, gotta save this til tomorrow but I'm looking forward to it for sure, have a great weekend and until next week stay golden 💛 love to koda always nice to see him

Steve J

somebody really wants to get to Deadpool, powering through these XMen flicks :)

Endling_king

currently downloading to watch. I know alot of people give this movie a bad review but personally there isnt an x-men movie i didnt enjoy. maybe some more then others but i did like them all (the newer ones are tough to say that about but still enjoy them). as well as the solo Wolverine movies. i personally loved them.

Nicholas Hentges

Yeah I really liked it as a kid, I can definitely see the flaws in it (and there are many) but i still enjoyed it. I mean, this isnt Origins levels of bad, it is just a definite turn.

Nicholas Hentges

When you get to Days of Future Past, please do the Rogue cut, it is already a good movie, but there is a large subplot that is in the Rogue cut that is fantastic.

Kevin

so jean has this thing called the phoenix inside of her, sometimes she loses control of this power and turns evil like what you just saw, but this is not always the case. this is the "dark phoenix" saga. Jean is the most powerful mutant in any of the movies so far.

Anonymous

Tifa, my Keeshond (same family as Pomenarian) wants more Koda !

warcrimes

This is a shitty movie.

sammi

If anyone needs help syncing the reaction to the movie on Disney+ you can try out this browser extension that I developed: https://www.casper.live/ You can pause and jump around in the reaction and everything is kept in sync. My recommended "offset" for this reaction is 305.

Anonymous

Oh no not The Last Stand! Although one of the good things about this movie was getting Elliot Page as Kitty Pryde and more Colossus scenes. Excited to watch your reaction anyway ☺️

Kevin

Also the cure serum wouldn't have worked on Jean. The Phoenix is not a mutant, its a cosmic entity living inside her. She would have lost some abilities though, because she is a human as well.

Kevin

the juggernaut couldn't go through the wall in the room because the kid disabled his mutant powers.

Tranquil_Gnome

I missed the hint that Storm was going to take over as leader of the X-men the first time watching. Too bad they didn't continue this line of the X-men movies. I loved Storm the most of all the X-men. She was a kick-ass leader . . even when she lost her powers for a time. Then again they way this was written maybe it was for the best the moved in a different direction. Umm, ummm Shohreh Aghdashloo who plays Chrisjen Avasarala from the Expanse. Woot! OMG, after Game of Thrones Nat you should watch the Expanse. You will love it.

George Baxter

Jean's hair was always red...

Danishprince

Nattie the reason why the Juggernaut (dick-helmet) couldn't run through the wall was because he was too close to the boy with the mutant-suppressing powers so his powers stopped working :D It's really interesting that this has been your favourite so far while it's one of the most hated X-Men movies by most fans - Just goes to show that no movie should be skipped just because a lot of the Patreons doesn't like the movie because you can have a totally different reaction to it <3 Also you missed a short end-credit scene ;)

Boomcity

NAT THERE'S A POST-CREDIT SCENE!!!

Darryl Low

Loved your reaction to this one Nat. It's such an epic movie, with so many great character moments as well. John Powell's score is amazing too, up there with his Dragons trilogy. "I wonder where Mystique is?" Your mutant power is precognition Nat ha ha And don't worry, they've fixed the Golden Gate Bridge for you. Thanks for a fantastic movie evening, and as always, thanks for all your awesome work this week. Have a great weekend Nat 💛

Chris H

Am I the only one looking forward to Xmen Origins Wolverine next?? That cluster fuck mess of a movie that makes no sense when compared to the rest of the movie but I don't care!

Flashy Wolf

Many hated this movie when it came out for mostly being somewhat..disappointed. I, at least, enjoy it still to this day, just does feel a bit disjointed in some places, and lots of characters in the movies, even with some getting little screentime, like Scott, Mystique & Rogue. Is still an okay movie. Also there was a post credits scene in this movie that you missed, it is VERY important, mostly all the movies starting with this one will have a mid and/or post-credit scene setting up the next movie mostly. And also if you like Rogue, then when you get to Days of Future Past, don't watch the version on Disney+, she has a subplot in that movie along with many other scenes that were cut from the Theatrical Cut. It's labeled the "Rogue Cut" and runtime is around 2 hours and 28 minutes. Feels like a more complete movie.

DarkJokester

The last of the original trilogy.. I can't wait til you reach First Class. This proofs that everyone sees movies differently.. Im glad that you liked it cause I enjoyed it alot the first time and also enjoyed your first time reaction to it.... it's like watching it for the first time all over again. I hope that next friday will move us further down the list of these movies cause there are ones that I can't wait for you to reach. Great reaction :D

Endling_king

I havent seen it mentioned in the other comments (or if it is i missed it) that you missed the end credits scene. i wont say what it was but it has to do with the lesson that the professor was talking to the class about ethics concerning mutant abilities.

David Blake

(NO SPOILERS): I know I'll be the only one to say this, but the next movie in the series will be "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and, in my opinion, it's the best of all. A lot of people think "Logan" is amazing, while I think it's boring and very slow. "Origins", on the other hand, I really like both as the acting of the actors, as well as the script and characters present. It's a "badass" movie and I love it. I hope you like it too, Nat.

Nicholas Hentges

Just finished the reaction and was coming to say the same about the post credit scene, also mentioned the rogue cut earlier. On this rewatch, I enjoyed this a lot more than I had the last few years. Loved it when I was a kid, talked trash for like 10 years and now I am back to being pretty sure i love it. Definitely has some issues with it's melodrama, lighting, and a couple story choices, but God does that music just elevate it.

Mike LL

No, I just want to watch the Disney+ version I have access to. There are plenty enough movies that I don't have access to, to go out and get some variant version and have to go out of my way to get. I'm sorry and I'm sure this Rogue version is great and I'll get to watch it someday, I'm sure, but lets just stick with basics this go round.

Mike LL

Yes, maybe you will catch it in the edit, but if not how about watching it before the next one as an extra??

Anonymous

Big oof. I'm afraid not many people will be with you in that one. I really don't like Wolverine: Origins for many reasons. It's in my opinion the worst mutant-related movie Fox has ever done.

Nicholas Hentges

Liked it a lot better this time around. I do want to point out that juggernaut hit the wall because Leech was right there so Jugs didnt have his powers in that second, so the wall stopped him, and the helmet means more in the comics but in this it is basically just aesthetic (he says it keeps his face pretty, but his power suggest he wouldnt take damage while in motion?). A minor issue I have is also the golden gate scene, like it is great and dramatic, but you can move metal, cant just take a boat? I think I loved it as a kid because I wasnt aware of the comic history, and then I started disliking it likely because I did start to learn the comic history. Now I am back to "who cares I enjoyed it." Also the xmen timeline gets pretty wonky so with hindsight, most of them can be scene as like little glimpses of possible realities. Like What If? episodes. Really the vest way to look at most adaptations, otherwise you just gonna be mad all the time, and there is plenty of other things to always be mad about.

Nicholas Hentges

If she watches the expanse I would finally have a reason to really sit down and watch it.

Anonymous

There's a post credits scene in this movie that you missed 😀 Can't wait till you get to my favourite movie in the series, X-Men First Class!

Anonymous

Hi Nat. Hello from Denmark. You are absolutely my favourite reactor.. reactionist.. reactionary..? 😉 Now, I don't know if someone else has already said this, but when you get to "X-Men: First Class" the time line gets VERY confusing to say the least, and the later films have very little in common with the first three X-men films. Deadpool has a couple of jokes regarding that in the first Deadpool film. 😊

Nicholas Hentges

That is in the comics (and dark Phoenix I presume, haven't seen it yet) it wasnt the cannon for this movie. That aside though, with the reveal that the serum doesnt last long on magneto, I imagine it would have been practically worthless on Jean. I also dont think she (Jean not Phoenix) wanted the cure, she wanted to die.

NFXx

Most people aren’t fans of Last Stand which is understandable once you know why but I think it’s ok, I still enjoy it. Wolverine Origins isn’t a fan favorite either but I did actually like it. Also like a few already said you missed a end credit scene! Hope you’ll maybe you’ll catch it and stick with Origins.

Anonymous

First ever comment on this patreon because I adore the X-men films, and loved watching your reactions Nat. I dunno if anyone else mentioned it but Jean has always been a red head, it's just a lot more pronounced in this movie with a more vibrant red wig, unlike the previous two films that used either Famke's own hair dyed or wigs that seemed more auburn instead of straight red. Also bit of trivia the character of Kitty has been in all three films, played by three different actors, in the first two movies she's a bit character that's only seen for a scene, but for this she's a full member of the team and I always really liked that as a kid, because in my child brain I was like "Oh when I grow up I can join the team too." Also am I the only one that wants a Scarlet Witch vs Phoenix fight?

Navjot Singh

Hi Nat. One suggestion. Now that you are done with the initial trilogy suspend all belief and logic as far as the timelines of the future movies. There will be some inconsistencies that are kind of hard to explain. So sit back and enjoy the ride.

Tiger Chu

Haven't seen this in years but I remember the effects where really good. Not as serious as the first two but still fun to watch. Theres a tiny after credit at the end of the movie.

Anonymous

Dude, 'this doesn't make any sense' could be on the posters for these films, lol. There are some great bits but DO NOT look for logic or continuity across films; overall the franchise is a pre-Marvel patchwork mess. Have fun but don't strain yourself kiddo :)

Anonymous

Another great reaction. I love how invested you have become in the undertones of the X-men universe. Being classified as "other" and the parallels to how judgment and biases can be the biggest Villainy of all. IMO these movies only get better and the next one on the list is my favorite out of the lot! Cant wait!

Navjot Singh

And one note. The next movie: X-Men Origins Wolverine has a mid-credit and a post-credit scene. And yeah, the fact that Eric can move the chess piece is more of a sign that the cure is not 100% absolute.

JediLounger

As does The Wolverine. Past this point Nat, check each movie to see if they have one. Some do, and some do not.

Anonymous

We are talking about the "most hated movie" when the next one is Wolverine Origins ? xD

Matthew Jones

I think it’s important to mention, no bridges were harmed in the making of this movie. Oh and I guess my copy has a post credit scene, I don’t remember that from watching it in the past.

Anonymous

Now after this, the timeline gets funky. and things change. There are some real good films coming up, but even as a fan they can get confusing.

Dante

Jean's hair has always been red, lol

Christian Rennie

Thanks! It was fun revisiting this one! I think Origins Wolverine is next It was a VERY BIG DEAL, in the comic book world, to have Wolverine’s true origin explained. At that point his origin comic had just been published a few years earlier and we [comic readers] waited about two decades for the reveal. Secrets long hinted at and the mystery of Wolverine’s back story on celluloid for all to see was monumental IMO. I agree about watching The Rogue Cut for Future Past. Also, I hope you circle back for post credits scene from this one. It was even integrated in Disney+ with the “Skip Credits” button. But, nobody’s perfect Nat. It just links this one (origins) and the next one in… a way.

Julian Calzada

omg you missed an end credits scene :o

Connor Ellis

She's got DID, not Bipolar.

Tony Sanson

So, watching this again for the first time in a long, long time...and I kinda enjoyed it. I guess I've come to learn to appreciate things for what they are in my old age. I don't know if I can be so forgiving once we get to X-Men: Origins... As many have pointed out, don't look for any kind of logic or continuity from many of the movies from this point on as there are a lot of un-explained retcons and contradictions. One criticism I had with the original trilogy is that the filmmakers just put a random power on someone then called them by a well-known character from the comics (like Callisto here). Or they'd just name-drop some random comic character as a passing background actor. In a blink-and-you-miss-it-moment in X2 for example, there's a newscast where a normal-looking Hank McCoy is arguing for mutant rights, and in the next movie he's the big blue furball we all know and love (with another example of inspired casting with Kelsy Grammer). This movie, I think, disappointed fans of the X-Men because they wanted something more with the Phoenix storyline, but I honestly don't see any kind of movie that can give that storyline any time to grow, not even Marvel Studios. Add to that killing off Xavior (watch the end credit scene...I guess...though it's one of those WTF moments for me...) and doing my boy Cyclops wrong like they did... I'm still bitter... I'm excited to get to First Class. I still wish it had been a hard reboot instead of a soft, but it's still a lot of fun.

George Baxter

I'll also saying rewatching this with you guys, the themes stand out a lot more. I would honestly rate the first trilogy as 2, 3, 1 from best to worst. I don't know why it was so maligned at the time, its not as edgy or subtle as 2 but it has substance. I think X-Men fans were disappointed Xavier died and wanted more from the character but for general audiences its a mediocre to good film. And there are far worse in this franchise...

A Vicarious View

This was definitely a divisive movie in the series and I understand where a lot of it comes from. The Dark Phoenix Saga in the comics is a fan favorite and very different from how they portrayed it here. It comes after The Phoenix Saga which has cosmic entities, alien empires, and intergalactic politics at play...like how the MCU is now but took 20 movies to build. Then the Phoenix is corrupted by the Hellfire Club (like mutant Free Masons) in The Dark Phoenix Saga. In a pre-MCU world, that would have been a tall order to adapt for a comic book movie and a whole lot of additional universe building that you can't just fit in one movie. It baffled people that they would attempt The Dark Phoenix Saga before we got The Phoenix Saga that sets it up. I agree that we did not get the Phoenix we wanted but I admit they did ok for trying to ground it in the small X-Men world they had. This movie had a lot of great emotional moments and I'm glad you appreciated it for what it was. Oh, and you missed the after credit scene. lol

Anonymous

This movie was heavily derided by fans for doing a disservice to the Phoenix Saga storyline from the comics, which involved Jean Grey becoming possessed by an interstellar life force capable of destroying entire planets. Many were upset that the story was treated more like a subplot when it was a much larger story that literally spanned across galaxies. They'd get a second chance at the story in later movies, but it would yet again fall short of such a galactic scope. Now that Disney owns Fox, the X-Men will almost inevitably be showing up in the MCU. And since they've already established aliens and intergalactic beings within their continuity, one would hope that if they do try taking a stab at the Phoenix Saga story, they'd be able to give the story the kind of necessary scope. Also, Juggernaut couldn't smash through that wall because as soon as he got close to the kid, his mutant powers were nullified and he just knocked himself out when he ran into it. That's why Kitty couldn't go through the wall either.

Joe Blankenship

I’m glad you liked this movie. I don’t think it’s as good as part 2, but certainly not as bad as everyone likes to say. I’m wondering if you even noticed that was Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy. Aka Frasier aka Beast aka Sideshow Bob.

Myles Away

The fact that the guy with 2 inch spikes found his way into Magneto's inner circle will always make me laugh. He is worthless compared to everyone else on the team.

Gryff

Gonna have to disagree with you on the Kitty and Bobby interaction. Supporting your friend who is grieving isn't cheating.

Brandon Scott

Yeah, there was an end post credit scene. I’m sure I’m not the only one to mention it 😅

Myles Away

I have not seen this movie since it came out. It was not nearly as bad as I remember. It still has a lot of issues but not the total train wreck that I had in my memory.

Aaron L

I loved this movie growing up because I never knew of the Phoenix saga so I didn’t understand the hate.

It Hurt A Lot

I didn't like this one years ago but somehow watching it with Natalie made me love it. I think it's because all the emotions with the misunderstood mutants was lost on me before

Lee Gannon

Out of the thirteen X-Universe films I put as the ninth best film.

Essero Eson

Yeah, love that Eric was simply set loose after losing his powers. It's like letting a mass shooter go because you got his gun away from him.

Troy B.

It's nice to watch these with someone who doesn't have preconceived notions about the characters and mythos, it makes it easier to take them for what they are, rather than any expectations. I enjoyed this a lot better the second time around!

Anonymous

I really liked x men, I was little when they came out. The new x men are not that great, but I also enyoyed them very much. You should watch deadpool, one of my favorites xD and Ryan Reynols is so funny

Doug Watson

The "Tin Man" aka Colossus, was in the last movie, not a new character.

MakaPeji

Can't wait for Dark Phoenix. :)

Kayyy

This movie is not as bad as everyone says in my opinion. Also I don’t know if you watched the end credit scene but it’s pretty important for future movies. (Charles is alive)

Anonymous

Gonna need a video of you reacting to the Post Credits Scene of this one!

Anonymous

I'm sure everything that needs to be said about the film has been said so I'll just say this. It's always nice to see my best friend, Koda, in a video. I know we haven't met but, I can tell by the look in his eyes. He knows we're buds.

Jomero

So this movie isn't as bad as I remember. I've only seen it once. In the theater. On release night. And I remember being disappointed, but I was also disappointed by all the behind-the-scenes politics going on, so that put a damper on my viewing as well.

Christopher Boscarino

Silly Natalie. You missed the post credit scene at 1:43:44

Philip

Almost there… Only a few more until Deadpool!

Haughtbreaker Nic

As a lifelong fan of the comics and original cartoon, I'm gonna say there wasn't an Xmen movie I didn't love. It really helps if you take every movie as it's own creation and don't focus so much on what is cannon and what happens when in the storyline. Keep that in mind when you watch the rest of the movies because they will, at times, downright contradict what has already been in another movie. The phoenix was one of my favorite comic arcs and it was a lot of people's which is why in the last movie, after jean died, everyone went crazy at the shape of a bird that they showed underwater. The way they went in the movie is very strange, but alas, I still enjoyed it. I can't wait to see the future reactions to the other movies.

Anonymous

So with Elliott here and Dickon from the last and future got I’m going to recommend a series to watch in the future The Umbrella Academy

Thomas Yanez

"I'm interested to see how these story arcs progress..." Yeah...

Joe Mama

Should watch Origins next. Second half isn’t as good canon wise (DP) but the first half is still a good look into Logan/Wolverine origin imo. Probably my least favorite BUT still worth the watch to know more about Wolverines past.

Patrick Armbruster

Wait, you missed the end-credit scene, Nat?! Somehow, I find it hard to believe that after all this time, you haven't learned to just at least scrub through everything at the end not to miss any of them. It's not just Marvel or comedies that do it, either. You simply have to check any film or TV show eps by now, I think.

Anonymous

YOU MISSED THE POST-CREDITS SCENE!!!!

Anonymous

Next one is X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Steve J

Koda should be renamed Vanta Black. That dog is unfilmably dark :)

This_Jedi_crafts

It's so interesting to read through a few dozen comments and see the variety of polarity in these films. I will say here (dating myself) that "when I was a kid" the most exciting sci-fi fantasy movies were of the original "Clash of the Titans" variety and, as a kid - I lived for the Ray Harryhausen work - until Star Wars came along. Wasn't allowed to read any comics so I don't have all that background knowledge either but, just have to say I'm thankful for all the innovations in film direction, special effects technology, etc. So, instead of saying, "I hated this one or LOVED that one," I'm just thankful that, as I get older, there is such a well of great fantasy, sci-fi, action, etc content to enjoy. Love watching Nat's reactions after I log off of work - it's just fun, too, to experience any movie a "second time" through the eyes of someone else. ...and I'm an emotional sap too - so glad I'm not alone in every little example of bravery, kindness, or loving moment (in the movies) getting me emotional. We have so few "real heroes" or people with integrity to look up to - it's great to "escape" for a while - and find them in these movies.

Anonymous

did she watch the after scenes?

Baron

Thank you for the great reaction, still watching but had to stop and comment because well reasons. Ok you let you politics show, "oh this is hilarious Fox had him on" comment, you do realize that these movies are all being produced and distributed by 20th Century Fox? Also he wasn't on the show they are showing a video he sent in. So why is it funny that Fox is the network in a Fox produced movie unless you have some sort of bias against Fox?

Ilsuk Yang

Ah, you missed the end credits scene! Oh, well, I'm sure you'll watch it at some point. I enjoyed the reaction you had to seeing the wings for the first time and saying "he's like an angel!" That's very appropriate as his mutant name is Angel! Also, Kitty's power is called phasing. In terms of comic science, she's spreading her molecules so far apart that she can go through solid materials. It's not unlike a gas and how it can diffuse through solid materials unless you have an air tight seal on the container that holds the gas. That big guy that you thought was Iceman in the beginning is Colossus (or Pete as Bobby called him when he was carrying that ridiculously large and heavy box, crt tv). He turns into an organic metal that is like steel, but stronger and more durable (in the comics, as long as he's in his metal form, he doesn't need food/drink, air, or sleep to sustain him so it's a pretty boss ability). Hank (the big blue guy) has a mutant name as well (Beast). The next movie is one of the most universally panned X-Men movies. X-Men Origins: Wolverine has good and bad moments (just like most movies), but I know you'll have your own opinion on if it's good or bad. Another note, starting with this movie (X-Men: The Last Stand), there are end credits scenes for every movie in this series.

Ilsuk Yang

I'm sure she will once she sees all these comments. She did miss a couple end credit scenes with the MCU when she first started watching those movies. She later recorded reactions to the scenes she missed so I'd imagine she would do the same for this one.

Anonymous

Nat her hair was always red

Anonymous

I vote that Nat should skip wolverine:origins. It's pretty insufferable. In terms of quality I feel like it goes 1.Logan 2.Deadpool 3.Days of Future Past 4.X2 5.X1 6.First Class 7.The Wolverine 8.Deadpool 2 9.Apocalypse 10.X3 11.Dark Phoenix 12.Wolverine:Origins...I'm probably missing one

William Connery

Such a dumpster fire of a movie

Ilsuk Yang

This movie is definitely better than most fans give it credit for. For me, it's a middle-of-the-road X-Men movie. I feel like they should've focused on the "cure" plot for this movie, had the X-Men discover Jean either at the end of the movie (or in an end credits scene), then do a 2-3 movie arc with the Phoenix as the main bad guy. I would've preferred a trilogy with this storyline with Jean being mostly herself in the first movie of the trilogy, but she goes a little too far a couple times. Then throughout the rest of the trilogy, we see her lose herself more and more until by the final film in the trilogy she's a full-blown villain where they have to stop her (and perhaps kill her). One of the problems with X-Men: The Last Stand is that it didn't let certain situations breathe (like all the death scenes). We didn't really have a chance to properly grieve for the main deaths because the movie kept trekking onward at a ridiculous pace. This should've been a two to two-and-a-half hour movie instead of what is essentially a one-and-a-half hour movie once you take out the beginning and end credits. Anyways, that's just my two cents

Ilsuk Yang

I know! The fact that he can only kill someone when he's literally hugging them is the very definition of useless

Ilsuk Yang

True, the hate is underserved. But, it's also not one of the better movies in the series. Right in the middle if you ask me (more good than bad). Main issue I have with this movie is the pacing, but overall an enjoyable experience (the emotions and soundtrack are on point!)

Ben Gilshenan

nat unfortunatly your wrong dogs make a video infinitly+1 better

Thomas Yanez

Huh... I enjoyed this a lot more on rewatching than I did originally. I was right there with the comments that were disparaging the movie BEFORE I just watched it. I mean, sure, fuck comics canon, but after the MCU, I have long since come to terms with story being adapted for the movies. Once I got over canon issues, this was a lot more fun than I remembered it being.

Anonymous

I'm so glad you're sticking with the X-Men series, it's been a lot of fun revisiting them through your perspective. The Last Stand was far from my favorite when it first came out, but it's more enjoyable with a less jaded fan actually embracing its positive points. Can't wait for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a movie I like a lot despite some dubious choices.

Gryff

Any reasonable thinking person should have a bias against Fox.

Gryff

Yeah, she even commented saying she hoped they used him more in the future.

Doug Watson

Yeah, she took a poll and asked us if she should watch Deadpool or watch the X-Men first.

YodatheHobbit

Just realized for the first time that this film's composer was the one for How to Train Your Dragon.

Shen V

I am pleasantly surprised by how much more forgiving these patreon comments are on this movie. I remember "everyone" hating it after it came out. Guess now that we have Apocalypse and Dark Pheonix, this one doesn't look too bad lmao. I kinda always liked it, there is just enough elements that work, and the cure question makes a strong catalyst for the plot. Still kinda surprised how much you really got into it, into most characters, and that the emotional punches worked this well. I could not blame anyone who thought a few of them fell flat. My gods, Angel (literally his comic name btw) was made for Natalie Gold Reactions™ :D Say, did you know swans could be gay? (I hope you get that reference...)

Master Washington

X-men origins wolverine is next up 😬

YodatheHobbit

While I don't like some of the many missed opportunities with some of these characters, stuff like Kain and Charles being brothers just not used at all, lots of other similar plot points, etc, these films do have brief moments of the heart the comics and animated series had and I will always enjoy them for that. They will always be my childhood attempted to be recreated on the big screen, and I could never be upset about that no matter any short comings, like their constant struggle to get Storm's characterization and look right. It says something when she's different every film and the only one's I really liked her in was this film and Days of Future Past. I hope we can get more success with a lot of those missed opportunities when the X-men do finally join the MCU in the distant future.

Jonathan Flick

As many have said there is a post credits scene. As a heads up, the rest of the movies have post credits scenes except First Class, Logan, and New Mutants. X-Men Origins: Wolverine has 3 post credits scenes. And I recommend the Rogue Cut of Days of Future Past.

Lorenzo Baxter

You missed an end credits scene, so you should definitely watch that before you watch The Wolverine

Kevin Mowery

I don't really care for this movie, but I've always said that it's amazing the director was able to put together even anything this good. Part of the Fox deal with Marvel was that they had to make an X-Men movie every so often or the rights would revert. So when Bryan Singer, the director of the first two movies, got the offer from Warner Brothers to do a Superman movie, he was fired by Fox and the movie went through a few different hands, getting changed along the way, until it was done as a fairly rushed job. Also, Scott got killed off I'm pretty sure because he went with Singer to do Superman Returns, so the studio wrote him out of this movie. And while Vinnie Jones isn't bad as Juggernaut, he's mostly here to do a joke based on an old meme ("I'm the Juggernaut, b****!").

Thomas Malley

Watching this along side you made me appreciate this movie in a different way. There was a lot of subtextual clues I missed the first 20 times I've watched it. And your emotional reactions made me understand more of the layers that I otherwise missed, and because of it I actually think it's a pretty solid movie. It has been upgraded from mediocre to solid in my opinion after the watch-along:) Thank you :)

Garrick Smalley

Fox is the company that made X-Men it makes sense that they would be the news station.

Hannah Mather

An Awesome movie. Consider checking out the end credits scene for this one before the next movie

john collins

FYI: you missed out on a cool end credit scene. The scene shows us the guy Charles was teaching about just after Scott died and basically it shows that Charles transferred his mind into that guys body.

Anonymous

Nat, ya missed the end credits scene!

Hannah Mather

Also i am SO EXCITED for the next movie, FINALLY I cant wait. Origins is my favorite by far

Isaiah Mesa

You missed the end credit scene!

Anthony Campbell

Originally I thought she should skip Wolverine Orgins cuz its so bad....but then I thought about it. She'll enjoy so many more jokes when she gets to Deadpool is she does watch.

Lisa Tosti

With the wheezes and the sneezes and a sinus that's really a pip! From a lack of community property and a feeling she's getting to old A person can develop a bad, bad cold! Clearly I am a theater geek as well ;-)

Garrick Smalley

Now take everything you have learned about the X-men and toss it out the window as you watch the rest of the X-movies. Please watch The New Mutants movie that came out last year.

Anonymous

I recommend skipping "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" it is a ridiculously terrible movie.

Denise Mullin

A lot of people dislike this entry into the x-man franchise. I believe it deviates quite a bit from the comic books. But as someone who hasn’t read the comic books, I really enjoyed this for the same reasons you stated. And the quote “for you” not quite lives up to the “always” quote from Harry Potter, But it’s not very far off emotionally is it .

Jerry Gonzalez

The little kid in me is thoroughly enjoying these x-men reactions 🤗

Aaron L

Who knows she might like it from the perspective of someone whose not huge into comics. She liked this.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

When I first saw this I was like a lot of people, I was mad they killed off so many of the best characters, especially Professor X (love that end credit scene though). All in all I do like these movies, I was happy just to see a decent adaptation of one of my all time favorite comic series. The X-Men are such a cool concept, definitely Silver Age and right out of the psychedelic Sixties. I think I asked in the comments before but I would like to know what one mutant ability Natalie would choose if she could. If I had to choose only one I think it would be between Logan's healing and Nightcrawler's teleportation, Storm's power is pretty badass too because she can do a lot of different things based on that power. I would say something like Prof X or Jean Grey but I think their powers are a set rather than a single ability.

David Holmes

La post nasal drip. With the wheezes And the sneezes And a sinus that's really a pip!

Jayson Phillips

Awwww Love Coda!!! Such a sweet baby.

Jayson Phillips

Are you gonna watch The New Mutants? I hope so I love that one.

DaftBasterd

I love this film! It's a very philosophical film that has an impactful empathetic tone to it that I personally appreciate over all else, even with it's easily overlooked flaws. Little story about this film; I was a senior in high school working at the local theater as the ticket ripper when this came out. I got to see it at the opening show and stayed until the end when, to my surprise, there was actually an end credit scene! It's actually a really important scene that made me so excited that, as the ticket ripper at the theater, after I would tell them which way and theater to go to and also to "stay until the end of the movie!". It wasn't really a thing back then so, looking back, it was pretty exciting to be a part of some of the first comic book end credit scenes! Thank you for always churning out awesome content regularly! You spoil us, so don't forget to spoil yourself too! I hope you feel better soon, take a break if you need to!

Jon Hoover

I love this movie. The only people I've ever heard that say they don't like it are the comic book purist. They don't like "Phoenix", and how that character was portrayed, but if you aren't familiar with the comics, then I think its a great movie.

Misty Crom

Well, it'd been a while since I'd seen this (and the others too, but still). It's actually better than I remember. I think a lot of people got upset/annoyed at the fact that they killed off Prof-X and Scott, and a few other bits, but it really is a good X-Men movie. Btw, Rogue told Logan her real/'human' name's Marie right when they first met in the first movie. Also, huge metal guy was in X2 also; he was the one Logan asked to keep the others safe. when Stryker's soldiers infiltrated the school. Also, Juggernaut knocked himself out when he ran into the last wall because he was close to that kid, so his power was... turned off(?), so he was just a normal, if large guy running full speed, head-first into a wall. Lastly, looking through the ordering on Wikipedia, I'd personally go with putting the Deadpool movies in where they will've come out. There're a few moments that'll work better I think.

Danny Miller

As comic book fan, and an X-Men fan in particular, this movie is an abomination. They absolutely pissed all over one of the most iconic storylines in comic book history, and just threw things together so that they could put out a movie. Also, I don’t abhor this garbage because of so many characters dying, like so many people have incorrectly stated, I loathe this movie because ‘The Dark Phoenix’ is a favorite storyline of mine from the X-Men history, and they completely ruined it with this nonsense.

Anonymous

PLEASE NAT GO BACK & WATCH THE END CREDIT SCENES FOR X3! ITS A MUST WATCH! ALSO XMEN ORIGINS WOLVERINE & THE WOLVERINE & DAYS OF FUTURE PAST HAVE END CREDITS AS WELL🙌🏿🙌🏿

Anonymous

Nat I hope u watch X-men Days of Future Past The Rogue Cut. Its the superior version

Robert Reichle

I assumed they killed Scott early, so all the focus on Jean would come from Logan, including like, EVERYTHING at the end. If Scott were around, why would Logan even be needed to step up as the "I love her but have to kill her" character?

Andrew Polinski

I hadn't watched this film since it first came out and i still hate this film after watching it again. Zero to none in comic book accuracy, and the end fight scene with all those mutants and all they can do is either jump through the air or get taken out by 7 X-men. It would have been a better choice to make it just the main brotherhood of mutants members and the X-Men would have been a lot less ridiculous and enjoyable IMO. P.S. Brett Ratner is such a bad director to boot

Anonymous

In my opinion this one is the best of the first 3 just because of that third act alone, fantastic! Specially the score!!

Anonymous

As much as I love deadpool, Im definitely more excited for your reaction to Logan. Hope we make it there!

Lucifer Moon

you missed the Post-Credit Scene.

Stefan Johannsson

Have you not learned anything from watching Marvel movies? lol. You missed the end credit scene. Btw....please please PLEASE skip X-men Origins: Wolverine. Not a good movie and does nothing to add to the overall X-men universe. X-men First Class should be next :)

Anonymous

Thanks Nat, another great reaction. As excited as i am to get through the rest of the x-men films, and especially deadpool, im still hoping you will get around to watching Hancock (2008) Definitely an awesome and underated superhero movie😁

Danishprince

Stop telling her to skip movies ffs.. 1. Just look at this reaction. Many people hate Last Stand and would have wanted Nat to skip it but it turns out to be her favourite of the 3 she's seen so far. 2. Let her watch things with an open mind. When everyone keeps saying "this is bad, don't watch that, just skip this" it affects what she thinks of it before having even watched it.

Calo Grsf

Thank you Nat for your reaction 😁! A perfect mix of smiles, laughter, emotions and tears. You really have the art of reconciling me with some movies 😌 But I must admit you always have surprising thoughts sometimes like with the fishes at the beginning of the movie 😆 And Koda is really the king of the cute ones 🥰, he is like my smallest dog, he doesn't like to stay on top of people for a long time, and as usual my biggest and biggest dog just wants to be 😆 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

YannickWega

Nat you missed tbe end credit scene and at the end you can see the chess figure bend a little xD Reminds me of the ending of Inception

Anonymous

Agreed. I don't know if Natalie reads the comments (too much risk of accidental spoilers), but someone should get a message to her. The Rogue Cut is where it's at.

Anonymous

This is somehow the worst and my favorite of the first “trilogy.” The team finally worked as a team…but so much of the plot is bad. For a series that has almost 60 years of story and characters, they really did not utilize any of it to flesh things out better. Like Hank McCoy. He gets a glorified Easter egg in X2, but it wasn’t enough for someone who’s not an existing fan to pick up that he’s the same guy in this. (Clearly different actor) Storm’s complete lack of individuality or personality. And how they totally erase everyone’s cultural heritage in this whole franchise. Storm grew up in Egypt and Kenya. Her mother is Kenyan but you get zero sense of that in this. Colossus is Russian. Granted, he’s hardly even a side character in this, but he’s so much better fleshed out in Deadpool. Other films will do this to other characters down the road. Which stinks because a huge part of what made X-Men comics awesome was how diverse and mixed up the team was. Not saying it has to be 1:1 exactly like the comics, but they didn’t even try. They do nail the emotional lines though. They get credit for that. Once again this reinforces my opinion of these movies, but it’s fun watching your reactions, Nat. Let’s me experience then through the eyes of someone who has no preconceived ideas about them.

Anonymous

Juggernaut (Cain Marko) is supposed to be Charles’ Step Brother and would bully him as a child. When Charles developed his telepathy it made Cain hate him more and went on to become Juggernaut. The helmet he wears is supposed to block out Charles Telepathy so he can’t damage his mind. They did not use any of these plot points for this film which was a BIG disappointment for the comic fans.

Anonymous

Highly recommend you checking out the 90s Xmen Cartoon which is available on D+ also.

Anonymous

Juggernaut was too close to the Cure boy, and lost his powers, so he just ran head first into a concrete wall in the ordinary way we all do. And man that hurts.

David Olden

I was a regular already at the restaurant where cast and crew would come when off-duty. I could always tell when Hugh Jackman **had been** in because all the female staff were working in a happy daze. And one night Patrick Stewart was at a booth near me, with three men in suits (probably 20th Century Fox execs) and every time I took a peek Patrick was still telling stories, every time.

David Olden

“… reactor … reactionist… reactionary..?” May I offer “Reaction Host”?

Matthew Periolat

Opinions on this one are divided, as you have no doubt noted. There’s an argument that the Cyclops character really got shafted in X2 and fridged at light speed here, there is also that the Phoenix/Dark Phoenix Saga, famous in comics, kinda got underplayed here as a result. The funny part is Fox and the script writers got another crack at the story later. That’s much as I’ll say on that point. It’s an OK movie when you accept it for what it is and not demand it to be what it’s not. I personally prefer the first two, but this is fine. I’m most curious to see the reaction to Origins. Most curious indeed. Still Golden.

Jedi Mandalore (Dylan)

Wasn't a fan of this movie at all when put besides the amazing comic and cartoon version of the Dark Phoenix story something the movie didn't even come close too. But as someone who has never watched or read the XMEN comic's and cartoon i can see why you enjoyed it as a movie. As an XMEN movie i hated it but as a movie it's fine.

Anonymous

I never understood why Singer and his team would go out of their way to show they knew the characters (Syrin's cameo in X-Men 1, Remy Lebeau being mentioned in Stryker's files in X2, etc.), and then going almost out of their way to adapt them in ridiculous ways.

Anonymous

"I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!" is a reference to an OLD internet meme. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSuvOVH0aSQ

I have a deep emotional connection to this movie, because it was my first introduction into the x-men universe (oobs). Although I get why it is hated, now after years of soaking into the "mythology" with it's somewhat over the top, dramatic and "destructive" storyline, I still do enjoy this movie. And the themes mirror so perfectly those of outcasts to society. (i.e. LGBTQAI+ people, people with darker skin, disabilities or other differences) I think now, perhaps my favourite of the x-men movies is X-2. I dunno. There's just something with Magneto in the prison, Charles emotional pain and drama in the climax, Mystiques cool scenes, Bobbys "coming out" scene and not at least Brian Cox as William Stryker. So interesting and well acted. And also the tragic end to the mutants he controlled. (Hehe, so yeah.. that was more points than I was planning to write. But i guess that's why.) Thank you so much for letting me experience these movies with "fresh eyes" again. This trilogy was really formative for me in my life, but especially in my own process of coming out.. and their themes (I fear) will be ever relevant.

Dooly

Hopefully you move on to X-Men: First Class after this.

Logan Kerlee

I enjoyed this movie, this time around. When I first watched it though, ohhhh boy, I REALLY disliked it. The reason I enjoyed it this time around is because I was watching with Natalie and her impressions were honest and awesome. I always enjoy her reactions for this reason. :) As for why I disliked it so much as a kid, it was because of the blatant disregard for the accuracy of the story (Phoenix Saga). The Phoenix Saga is by far my favorite storyline within the X-Men universe. It's gripping, emotional and this movie didn't hit any of it on the head. They just took Phoenix because she was OP and an X-Men character then used her for another story. My favorite X-Men film is still the first. That's me though.

Robert Reichle

They didn't even bother to show her coming up out of the lake! There's no reason they couldn't have had an epic moment with that. It's like they either didn't try... or DID try to intentionally not do any justice to the source material.

Anonymous

Hey, just letting you know that you forgot to watch the final end credit's scene. Also It's called trypophobia... I have a joke about in my set; suggesting that, that is the real reason only blind people are willing to learn braille.

Anonymous

Hey Nat, did anyone mention to you that there is an end credit scene for this movie? If not, go back & check it out. 👍

Anonymous

There was definitely a missed opportunity to have Juggernaut fight Colossus in this movie.

Topher Cast

For everyone telling her to skip origins, what the hell you thinking? She's not a comic nerd like the rest of us! This is the closest she will get to understand logins past. The movie was cursed with so many issues yeah, but let her watch it like the rest of us did! Then we can see her understand Logan better and see her talk shit about the move at the same time!

Richard Ryan

Since you asked: Juggernaut's power (a mutation for the movie, different for the comics) was "suppressed" by the presence of the boy, that's why that last wall cracked his noggin. Very clever, Kitty.

Anonymous

THE END CREDITS ??!!

Elvenwitch

Magnito got the Pfizer cure. It isn't very strong against the delta X Gene.

JarHead0351

Nat, I think you aren't watching until the end of the movie for those last clips like you did for the Avenger movies -- which gives you those hints

Jason Dolan

I think this movie is better than it gets credit for. Make sure you go watch the post credits scene in this movie... you'll get a little surprise! Someone else might be back!

Jason Dolan

You have to still watch WOLVERINE XMEN ORIGINS to fully appreciate DEADPOOL though

VK

Watch the post credits

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Wolverine's comic book backstory is so much more interesting than any of the movies, he was a Canadian army commando in world war 2, "They" turned him into Weapon X. Hugh Jackman was a great casting choice although completely inaccurate vis a vis the OG comic, wolverines are infamous because they're not large but preternaturally powerful and ferocious. Logan was originally supposed to be like 5 foot 2, hairy with mutton chops weird hair and a bad attitude.

Anonymous

without moving on to X-Men Origins Wolverine or The Wolverine. i think you can safely watching X-Men First Class next. just my opinion

Anonymous

I was pleasantly surprised to hear you enjoyed this one. This is generally regarded as one of the weaker films in the series. I have some qualms with it but mostly because I dislike Brett Ratner. I know you are getting a lot of encouragement to skip certain films in order to get to Deadpool faster but i would encourage you to stick with release order. There are a couple of non-winners in there but its a journey with a payoff.

Navjot Singh

And that would defeat the purpose of enjoying Deadpool. Plus as Nat said, she is interested in Logan's history - you can't just skip those movies.

RebRox65

Glad you’re enjoying the X-Men movies, you have met two of the mutants that features in Deadpool and we’re you aware that Beast was played by Kelsey Grammer AKA Fraser. Every time I see Famke Janssan as Phoenix I get flashbacks of her in James Bond in Goldeneye as Xenia Onattopp,

David

You missed the post-credits scene!

Anonymous

Had so much fun with this rewatch. The movie was generally seen as a disappointment by true fans (and in no small part to a lot of the behind-the-scenes drama), but honestly, after rewatching it with you, I have a new appreciation. Oh, and yeah — definitely go back and watch the post-credits scene. It will come into play a few films down the line. ;)

Anonymous

Be prepared that the continuity of these movies gets quite jumbled, changes get made.

Jeff Clark

Reason Juggernaut couldn't go through that wall is because he was near the kid who stopped peoples powers.

Anonymous

This movie has a post-credits scene by the way. It’s a confusing scene, but it’s very important, and there’s a plot point in a future movie that makes less sense without it.

Anonymous

Always remember you are watching a super hero movie. Always check for an End credits scene”.

My_Cousin_Mose

I was always kind of "meh" about the X-Men movies. I'm not that big a fan of modern super hero movies. But I LOVE the ending with Magneto.

Anonymous

So glad you enjoyed this one. For me this has ended up being the best of the worst imo.

jamie jones

When you watch the wolverine. Make sure its the extended version

asia roberson

When you watching marvel movies always check for Post credit scene

asia roberson

X-Men origins wolverine is next

Nicholas Hentges

Now see this one I dont know if you need to watch the extended version, I dont remember much difference, it's the one I own, but I basically just remember it having blood (which I'll admit is worth it by itself). Days of Future Past should definitely be the rogue cut, and I'd be down for Extended of wolverine but I dont recall many of the differences.

Nicholas Hentges

I have avoided it, but after rewatching this and really enjoying it this time around, maybe I am in the right mindset to watch it. Definitely going to when nat gets there, i just mean i might actually enjoy it.

Nicholas Hentges

Right?! Great job Nat, I appreciate something I loved as a kid and disliked as a jaded 20something

Nicholas Hentges

Yeah it isnt great, but it had moments for sure, and she is doing the x men movies so she can watch deadpool, she would miss a LOT of jokes. And besides, you dont "skip" movies in a series, that is ridiculous. If YOU dont want to watch it, no one is forcing you to, see you the following week.

Joel Palenychka

The problem with most non-MCU superhero movies is that they tend to base themselves heavily on the comic scripts, which doesn't really translate well to film. Most of the "cheesy" lines/scenes that don't scan well are because they were pulled directly from comics. The other thing you need to remember, particularly with X-men movies, is that superheroes don't tend to stay dead. It's a running joke in comic books. It can get even worse than Loki. I did love that you automatically figured out Angel's name. That is his hero name in the comic books and he was one of the original members of the X-men.

Anonymous

There's still end credits

Anonymous

And in the rest of them they actually kind of become important. The end scenes.....

Danny Miller

Juggernaut isn’t a mutant in the comics, but for some idiotic reason they make him one for the movie.

Wolfie Randolf

Yep, there is an end credits that's kinda important ;) , short but needed.

1dvsbastrd

Juggernaut couldn't break through the wall because he was too close to the kid, which took away his powers

Mike Yocom

I did not realize Shohreh Aghdashloo was in this movie. (Speaking of: any chance The Expanse ends up on the watch rotation?)

Cory Silver

I'm not sure how I missed this one, I always thought I had seen it. This is weird stuff, but nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Yes you can play videogames in the car. It is weird seeing the movie version of the phoenix. I guess it makes a bit of sense, but yeah, it was always a separate entity. It's weird seeing Juggernaut as a mutant in this thing, he was always an X-Men villain, but never a mutant. He got his powers from a magical ruby, and the "Crimson Bands of Cyttorak". Also he's Professor X's brother. Well step brother. Bullied him as a kid and everything. The kid is Leech, and he's from the comics, his power is to negate the powers of mutants. It's a range based thing. Jamie Madrox is awesome. He just has a cameo in the movie, but he's "The Multiple Man" he can copy himself, and the copy has independent thought, different personalities. He is best known for his detective agency that he has. Beast started out looking more or less like a normal human with very big hands and feet, he was always the team smart guy, although at the start he was a lot more of a jokester. For some reason he had the idea that he wanted to cure his mutantness, and ended up turning himself into the furry blue guy. No idea why the left Nightcrawler out of this movie. People who should be there just vanish, recasting happens all the time, timelines don't make any sense... It really makes you appreciate the MCU, the worst they really have is recasting Hulk and War Machine.
