Oh boy, here we go. 2 of my favourite episodes in the entire series.

Tony Johnson

Ah, one of those classic episodes where the youtube and google drive thumbnails tell the story, lol

Randee Carreno

Happy Wednesday, Natalie! 😊 I'm getting this downloaded right now so that I can watch it later tonight. I'm really looking forward to watching the episode that leads up to the finale. Can't wait to watch this reaction this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Ian

Happy westeros Wednesday Nat looking forward to your thoughts on this highly anticipated episode and seeing a certain person getting what he deserves 🙂 on that note lets begin 💛

Ben Gilshenan

tyrion unchained them and left the door open they just didnt leave

Tadpoleaxe

I feel silly for asking this but the current schedule (Wed and Thur with 5 days of no GOT) is surprisingly frustrating for me. Could you please go back to a T-Th or M-F schedule? I really look forward to watching your reactions and when they are so close together it's kind of like eating too much candy all at once for a meal and then starving for the rest of the week. I don't subscribe to Disney so Don't get to enjoy your current alternative Paetron videos. Just my humble request.

The cavalry charge and battle scenes were made with a mix of real + CGI effects. That's why they look so good.

Ellis Hugh

Regarding Dany... it's so easy to love her and cheer for her, but hopefully at this point we all realize two things: Every single thing that Dany has ever accomplished came on the backs of her dragons, as they bail her out over and over again - whether it was the houses of the Holy when she was chained up, their making the acquisition of the Unsullied possible, flying her away from certain death in the fighting pit, burning the fleet in Slavers Bay and so on. She has absolute, unshakable faith in herself and her personal destiny to rule all, almost a divine right. Unfortunately she has shown her ability as a conqueror in spades - due, again, to her dragons - but has yet to show any of the patience or understanding to govern... Just food for thought.

Can't wait for the season finale!

Ellis Hugh

I love Sansa, but she pissed me off in this episode. She chastises Jon for not listening to her, but she's standing right there at the war council alongside everyone else, saying nothing. She chastises Jon for not listening to her, but she has no answers or solutions to offer ("I don't know anything about battles"), just very obvious warnings. She chastises Jon for not listening to her but inexplicably hides from him something as significant as having a whole other army available to her.

Anonymous

As much as I loved seeing Sansa coming into her own as a legit player, I was always annoyed that she didn't simply tell Jon "yo, we have allies in the Vale, sit tight for a little longer" instead of having a petty argument with John over not being asked for her opinion to begin with.

Conzi

It's not portrayed very well, but I think she doesn't trust Jon enough to not do something with the knowledge of the other army that gives Ramsay the advantage. If she is the only one that knows then Ramsay can't counter her.

Dani

Next, the best finale in tv history! Can't wait!

Calo Grsf

Hi Nat! Happy GOT Day and thanks you for your reaction, it was epic today! 😄 This episode is my favourite from the all serie haha So many great moments in this episode between Daeny's battle and meeting with Theon and his sister, Jon's battle but the best of all, Sansa and Ramsay settling their score, so gooood haha However I'm sad for "Wun Wun" (the giant), and the moment where we see Sir Davos finding the wooden deer of Shireen or even Rickon's death (just horrible to "know" you can' t save him)... RIP guys I really can't wait for tomorrow 😁 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Tadpoleaxe

Serpentine Baboo! Serpentine!

mike

All I'm saying is that a boy who names his direwolf 'shaggydog' probably can't run in zig zag either and probably deserves to die from 200 arrows before being trampled by 100 charging horses. I think that's fair.

Darryl Low

A lot of retribution dished out in today's show Nat, and like you I was feeling queasy and claustrophobic being stuck in the middle of that battle. Great reaction Nat, plenty of shouting and averting your eyes 😄 Thanks for today's video. Look forward to the season finale tomorrow 💛

Ellis Hugh

Ramsey is brilliant on so many levels... those burning crosses/flayed men are set out to mark set distances for him and his archery, making it that much easier for him to accurately target Rickon and to create set points for the timing of his army's assault. And he knows that simply executing Rickon will only strengthen his opponent's resolve... but giving Jon a chance to save him will cause all their plans to fall into disarray. For those who are interested, there is an absolutely masterful breakdown of the choreography and cinematography involved in the Battle of the Bastards - its a fantastic watch that only runs about 12 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8hExR0NXGI

Simon Bauer

i'm so nervous *cat noises* lol

Stefan Johannsson

Loved re-living this again. And yes, that battle scene...especially the one-shot with Jon, rivals any battle scene in any hollywood movie in my opinion. I put that battle next to Braveheart, and that's saying a lot.

My Toasty Toast

For a second i thought you were talking about the hounds and I was like “what are you talking about?”

MakaPeji

RIP to my boy Wun Wun

Ilsuk Yang

He actually didn't feed them for 8 days since the battle was the day after his original statement. And yeah, Sansa is definitely a different person now!

Ellis Hugh

Nat @ 54:00-ish... I fucking love it when she gets bloodthirsty.

Ian

Great episode, fantastic reaction Nat mirrored my thoughts the first time I watched and yep it does indeed remind us of the battle got helms deep "look as my coming at first light, on the fifth day. At dawn, look to the east" and all that good stuff 🙂 the music in this episode was epic as was the filming of the battle RIP wunwun ramsay not so much 😅 really looking forward to the finale and your discussion with tyler next week 💛

Jai Nelson

Yes. Very Bravehearty. I love pitch battles. Last Samurai has one that ranks up there too.

Anonymous

Also if I remember right, they said the entire battle took about a month to shoot.

MIchelle Porter

RIP Wun Wun last of the giants 🥺😢

Alex B

The last 2 episodes of the season might be my favorite episodes of the series

Mike Adams

Ok everyone together now.... ZIG ZAG!

Obsolyeet

Yeah Shaggydog is an awful name but it came from a 3 year old Rickon so it is what it is I guess. I was glad Natalie had the same initial reaction as most as far as his running in a straight line even after seeing the bow come out. Serpentine you dumbass! Serpentine!

Anonymous

another episode where Daenerys is talked out of massacring everyone!😂

Matt O'Keefe

Episode 10 might be favorite tied with Season 4 Episode 10. And then if I don't want to get frustrated, I consider the show over and done with because that was the last episode.

Tranquil_Gnome

No one expects a Dragon (spanish) inquisition! Battle of the Bastards! aka Bob! Sansa was right the whole episode. Sansa won the battle.! To be fair she should have shared her plans with Jon but it made the episode more dramatic. Praise to Iwan Rheon for his role as Ramsay. A very lovely person in real life. Very funny too.

Coojw

I just opened the video and Natalie is like "Playing in 3.. 2.." I quickly paused. I'm like "Damn Natalie, slow down, im trying to grab a drink & a snack!"

cosmotron

I posted part of this as a reply to someone else, but wanted to do it as its own comment. And then it didn't post, so hopefully it works this time! I know some people have issues with Sansa not telling Jon about the Vale army, but I think it makes sense. It definitely could have been portrayed better: I think it's hamstrung by the obvious fact the writers mostly did it because they wanted the appearance of the Vale to be a surprise in the middle of everything else. But I do think the choice makes sense for her character too. To begin with Sansa doesn’t have a guarantee that Littlefinger is coming. She doesn't want his help to begin with because she knows how untrustworthy he is. Even his help is likely to come with a heavy price, so she doesn't want to go to him until she has no other choice. We see her send a letter, but we don’t see a reply. So while she is pretty sure he will come, it’s still a gamble. He’s sold her out before, and as I mentioned that’s why she didn’t want his help in the first place. So if she goes up to Jon and says: “this man we both know we can’t trust says he’s going to be coming with an army to help us”, it’s not the kind of thing Jon would be likely to change his battle plans over. He’d be more likely to distrust Littlefinger, and with good reason. So Sansa doesn’t tell Jon, because she doesn’t have a guarantee that Littlefinger will come, and knows Jon is likely to distrust any claims coming from Littlefinger. Secondly, I think Sansa trusts Jon as a person. She trusts that he will always try to do what’s right, and trusts that he is a good man. But that doesn’t mean that she trusts in him making the smart choice. So she tries to make it for him. And I think that makes sense as an extension of how she’s learned to survive. I think she knows it’s a risk in numerous ways and knows people will die, but it reminds me of the choice her brother Robb made when capturing Jamie Lannister. Great reaction, as usual! This is a good episode, and even after multiple viewings its easy to get caught up in the energy of the battle, as well as the pre-battle scenes.

Kayla

the schedule will go back to how it was before when she finishes the marvel shows. you might not subscribe for them but plenty of other people do.

The Guy on the Couch

It is so interesting how savage this show can make people. Little Nat went from sweet to "YES!!!! FUCKING KICK HIS ASS: KILL HIM!!!!" Can't wait for the last episode and see what is going down at King's Landing :P

Anonymous

I loved your reaction when you yelled to "effing kill him!!!"

WackySwacky

Sansa got a lot of people killed because she refused to share her plan.

WackySwacky

Medieval battles rarely went down the way this one was depicted. Typical Hollywood stuff. As it turns out, Medieval people didn't just line up their armies and then charge head first into each other. Because, you know, that would be a good way to get yourself killed, and contrary to popular belief, people didn't actually want to die in these battles. Also, Sansa not telling Jon about her plan was definitely bullshit. It was done purely in the service of creating a Helms Deep Gandalf saves the day moment at the end. Very tropey.

Uthacalthing

Agreed. Also, Sansa knows Ramsay and what he's capable of (which she actually said to Jon). She might think it risky if Jon made plans based on the possibility of reinforcements arriving, because Ramsay could take advantage of it strategically.

____

It’s finally here. LOOKS LIKE TEARS OF JOY ARE BACK ON THE MENU!

mike

I am happy Miguel Sapochnik (the director of this episode) is one of the show runners for House of the Dragon. Despite the battle logic being a bit lacking, the directing was amazing. The choice to focus on the mud, blood, confusion, chaos, the cry of dying men and horses makes this one of the best battle sequences on film. There are many epic and beautiful shots throughout that get your juices going but most of it just keeps you unsettled and uncomfortable. As far as battles on film go, this is about as immersive as it gets. Brilliant!

Erik Stevenson

Sansa should have told Jon about the Vale army, but besides that, this is one of the most negative character developments I've ever seen given Jon's actions. Sansa literally spells out for him what's going to happen, and even with being told explicitly about Ramsey's plotting, he charges a superior force and wipes out his own army. It really deals a blow to any sense that Jon can be trusted to make good strategic decisions.

WackySwacky

Miguel won an Emmy for this episode. Definitely a great director.

Al Baughman

15 million people watching the show: "Zig zag Ricon, zig zag!" Ricon: straight lines it right to Jon Ricon dies. 15 million people: " . . . . "

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Definitely CGI, no possible way you could orchestrate and film that kind of realistic chaos with actual horses, there'd be actual casualties. I remember cursing at my TV the first time I saw this episode lol, at Rickon and especially Jon, I was furious, "you came back from the dead, for THIS!!" 😆 And I think everyone had the same reaction to Rickon, "zig zag, serpentine!" Jon's a great warrior but a shit general, that was the single dumbest thing he could have done and he deserved to lose for that simple fact, as much as I hate Ramsay and Lil Jon Umber, and you can call their strategy cowardly but it was effective and that's what matters in war. I do love how Ser Davos had a similar battle plan to Hannibal's at Cannae, and if Jon hadn't acted impulsively the outcome might have been the same as Cannae (if the knights of the Vale had shown up to the rear of the Bolton army with about the same timing). As it turned out Ramsay definitely had the battle won, if not for the classic American Western deus ex machina of the cavalry showing up to save the day at the last possible moment. I was glad of course to see the dire wolf flying over Winterfell again but honestly hate those endings, the Lord of the Rings one too, so cheap. For me the episode was saved by Sansa's revenge, and seeing Jon beat the hell out of Ramsay of course. All said this battle is definitely one of the best ever filmed, TV or film. It was also awesome to see Khalisi's army in action. Imagine having not only the best cavalry in the world, but also the only air force in the world. And now she's got a navy 🤘🏽

Alan Kobb

This is one episode that you really should watch the making-of (after the credits) for. It was based on a real historical battle, and was amazingly well-done with some CG and lots of well-rehersed extras. You've seen 300, and Gladiator, and really I don't think any of them hold a candle to this one episode of Thrones for such an amazingly well-done battle scene, because it puts you right in the middle of the horror with Jon.

Jerick E

Some giants die holding doors, (Hodor), others die opening them (Wun Wun)...

Flip

I strongly suggest making S6E10 a stand alone video for YouTube. No spoilers, but fans fans consider it the best single episode of the entire series -- myself included.

MertzRocks

A man has a point..... A very GOOD point, Natalie! : ) Also, pay close attention to the music, esp in the first half. EPIC stuff.

MertzRocks

I wonder who else noticed the continuity error... Before the end of the parley before the battle, Sansa rides away after telling Ramsay he's going to die and to sleep well. Just after Sansa rides off is when Ramsay tells the others that he hasn't fed his dogs in 7 days. How did Sansa know? I know it's "just a TV show" and maybe Jon told her what he said (that's a big maybe) but I think it's a continuity error. There may be others thru the show, I don't know. This one I noticed.

Laura Thornley

Its a mix. I watched the making of documentary, and it was a crazy array of stunt riders, physical props and CGI. Even had stunt actors attached to pullies to have them hurled into the air when they are dismounted during the charge.

Andrew Clifton

Yes, it is just a show but I noticed that the second time I watched season 6. I didn't make a big deal of it and just thought okay, Jon told her. I think it was just one of those things nobody picked up and they said the hell with it. Still one of the best episodes though.

Trepanation21

I'm sure someone has already mentioned it, but just in case... Nat, you'll be pleased to know that the shield that Jon used to block Ramsay's arrows in the courtyard was a Mormont shield. The little Lady Lyanna Mormont of Bear Island was right about her men. Only 62 of them, through all that Jon and his army went through in that fight, a Mormont soldier made it all the way to the Winterfell courtyard, and his shield defended Jon to the last moment before he got his hands on Ramsay. Hell yeah!

Anonymous

Wrong, and loud. The typical Daenerys detractor. She’s purely magical.

Anonymous

A lot of people were saying Rickon should have zig-zagged, both now and when the episode first aired. But in my opinion if Ramsay's intended target was always the finish line (ie just before Jon and Rickon meet up), then whichever path Rickon would have taken to get there wouldn't have mattered too much. My friend had a hard time watching horses in shows like this during battles too; all of them getting injured and killed and so on. But after some research he realized just how much work and training went in to teaching a horse how to "fall" and "die" realistically. Now whenever he sees a horse injured in a movie instead of "oh no!" he reacts with a "good job horse" and a better appreciation for these horse-actors. In case that helps.

Obsolyeet

Yeah, Sansa playing her cards close to the chest cost a lot of lives that day. Jon immediately falling into Ramsay's mind games cost a lot of lives that day. Not sure who I was more disappointed in.

My_Cousin_Mose

This is the episode John Snow found his plot armor +5.

Tom Fehr

*last episode ends with Arya's big Braavos arc conclusion* we havent seen arya in a while i feel like

A Vicarious View

A lot of people give shit to Rickon for not zig zagging but you have to take into consideration that he's still a kid who never got any legitimate battle training. He was 6 years old in the first season when their Master at Arms Rodrik, who was in charge of training the high-born boys, left with Catelyn for King's Landing and then the Eyrie. Bran and Rickon went on the run with Osha and Hodor when he was 7 at the end of season 2. Then he was in hiding until Ramsey got a hold of him here at the age of 11. He never had a chance to get any real training from a seasoned warrior. Poor Rickon Stark. Slaughtered by Ramsey and then roasted by millions for still just being a scared little boy.

Doug Watson

Wanna know how they did it? I love this channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8-yCHHNjZY

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

He should have zagged. Every weapon and operator has an effective range, the closer to and the farther beyond that effective range the less likely it is to hit that target. Ramsay had sniper quality skill with a bow, but even the best snipers with rifles can and will miss if the target is aware they're a target. Rickon was just an idiot who apparently never played any sports.

Ryu Kobushi

Battle was filmed with hidden cuts and cgi

Greg McDaniel

Eddard "Ned" Stark: Died for honor. Catelyn Stark: Died for her children. Robb Stark: Died for love. Rickon Stark: Died because he'd never heard of a goddamn zig-zag.

Cripkie

luv that moment where the silver spoons are cut down by grey worm. I have no problem with success, dynasties i do. If you have no conception of poverty you cant possibly allocate your wealth appropriately. You have to taste desperate if you wish to leed.

Cripkie

yeah true, We wish psychopaths death, not out of malice but out of defense. Im pretty sure my little brother is a psychopath. He seems to be incapable of comprehending love. He lives out in the wilderness hunting animals. You can see it in their eyes, its a glassy dead stare. Like a wolf or a cat.

Cripkie

Ramseys power is the hatred he causes others. He is incapable of hate or love or anything in between. But he knows that others do and he can play them like chess pieces. But emotion is a powerful motivator that can trump strategy with pure will.

Jenny Tolls

54:09 that was real raw emotion right there haha

Fuzzy Dunlop

Everyone.....EVERYONE! says "zig zag"!

Julia

Honestly I shouted at Rickon to zig zag but I know Ramsay would have gotten him regardless... hes had lots of practice with moving targets I'm sure. As for the whole fight scene, especially when John was suffocating, I had a panic attack lol, my heart rate was 120 the first time I watched it! I broke it into parts this time and it was a little better (only 97!). Loved this reaction, it's always so exciting when predications come true!

Kevin Anand

Also complaining about him not asking her for advice and then not having any actual input "I don't know anything about battles"

Kevin Anand

The north for the past 5 seasons - "THE NORTH REMEMBERS" The north in season 6 - "Wait I forgot, I'll just ally with the people who killed my king"
