WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! That's all I have to say for this one.

Jenny Tolls

These next couple episodes are gonna be brutal 😬

Randee Carreno

Happy Wednesday, Natalie! 😊 I'm downloading this right now to watch later tonight. I can't wait for these last few episodes of S5. I'm looking forward to watching this reaction this evening. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Paul Gibbons

Love how Nat has a thumbnail from early in the vid, we know thats not the end don't we.

Anonymous

Haha I know, right? I love Nat's GoT thumbnails, they all have that Charlie Brown "I'm totally kicking that football this time" misguided optimism to it.

Anonymous

I like to watch random episodes every now and then this ones my favourite, been waiting for this one

Anonymous

The Burning Man connection, you just ruined me LMAO

Matt O'Keefe

That this episode is Hardhomme for me meansI don't give a darmn idthere are no episodes this week. I assumeosy others feel the same. I could be wrong.

Tony Johnson

I've been looking forward to this!

Ian

Happy westeros Wednesday Nat looking forward to this one a lot knowing what's coming "🧟‍♂️" cough cough definitely one of the best episodes up to this point I know you're going to freak out so let's as you say hop into it 💛 oh btw cockles are basically a shellfish a small clam if you will 🦪

Steve J

First time watching Jon fight the white walker I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat. When he does the move to block and then kill the walker, I involuntarily jumped out of my seat and did the NFL Touchdown stance while yelling YES! YES!

Anonymous

Watching the comments before the episode started, Barristan's death really pissed me off. He was a legendary fighter even at his age, and the Unsullied who are supposed to be tactical and disciplined completely broke ranks, even though the confined space actually favored their formation. Plus, we just saw Jorah in the previous episode run through all those guys in the fighting pit and he was nowhere near the swordsman that Barristan was. So it still makes no sense to me that he could die like that.

Brandon

I'm glad you took the time to talk about how the show is starting to change and the writing isn't as tight as it used to be before you started watching the episode... ...that being said, this episode right here is PEAK Game of Thrones. IMO there's a lot of cool stuff after this, but the show never got as good as this episode in terms of blending drama and big-budget action that had me gripping the arms of my chair for dear life. :) I also really love the scenes with Tyrion and Dany. He usually doesn't directly answers her questions and is still able to win her over. I think maintaining how clever Tyrion is supposed to be is where the writing can be hard at times.

Anonymous

There are still some storylines from the book in this season and season 6. The show runners just have to progressively fill in more and more holes as they start running out of source material. Sansa’s ‘marriage arch’ with Ramsey is in the books but It wasn’t Sansa that married him it was someone else. I think they just needed something for the actress to do cuz there wasn’t a lot of Sansa material at this stage in the books. Sadly I think your right and it did hurt her growth as a character in the show to say the least.

Anonymous

This episode is an example of the writers getting it right. The Hardhome battle was only briefly mentioned in the books and in my opinion is one of the best episodes in the entire series.

Anonymous

Those were not her children btw, just random kids that had been turned previously.

Anonymous

Still trying to comprehend why Tuesday’s episode going up early means nothing now on Thursday. Oh well.

Thomas Yanez

I think it has more to do with the fact that there are only 10 episodes, and she wants 2 this week and 2 next week. I'm not sure why she's connecting it to the early post, since her past posting history has already set the precedent of dropping to 2 GoT posts per week for the end of the season.

Anonymous

The mother could not kill the children, it was too hard for her. I liked her, she made an impact for only seeing her for one episode.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Just kids, but zombie kids (that black-eyed kid especially) are creepy af. This was it, this was the first full episode I ever watched and the battle was what made me an instant fan, forget about the Walking Dead. And the way they all silently rose from the dead at the end, was so perfectly ominous and eery, I'm a big horror fan and this episode was a good hint that this show had everything. A few days later I started buying and bingeing the first four seasons on DVD, I was all in.

Calo Grsf

Thank you Nat for this reaction! It was great and intense episode today 😄 I was surprised and laughed at your little outburst 😆 To answer your question, no it wasn't the woman's children, "just dead" children. Otherwise, I loved your reactions during the Daenerys and Tyrion moments, but especially with Cersei (the little reminder with your glass of water really got me 😆, important to hydrate haha), and it's sad for Ser Jorah what's happening to him, I agree... Anyway, I can't wait for the next episode, I' m looking forward to next week! 😄 I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden! 💛

Anonymous

Those undead kids were just kids. The wildling lady's girls were already on the boat.

Darryl Low

"If they had just gotten here a few days sooner, they could've evacuated" Ah, but then there wouldn't have been an absolutely terrifying battle with zombies Nat. That was an intense episode and an intense reaction. Loved that final shot too. Sometimes silence speaks the loudest. Thanks for today's video as always Nat, and for a great week of Thrones 💛

Anonymous

Like others have said, the wildling lady's girls that we saw previously were safe in the boat. I know she probably just couldn't kill any kids, but I always imagined by the look on her face that maybe the one in front was a child of hers that had died a while ago.

mike

Now that I am thinking about it, cockles as a word does indeed sound wrong 🤔

BNJ

"Jon you're an idiot!" That's the motto for this entire series LOL

Devin

You might like "Legion" it's a great show

BiggerBee

We are still waiting for a book, its a pipedream....the show should have had the books but Martin took his sweet time....still is

Anonymous

Valyrian Steel is also known as Dragon Steel just fyi to go along with the dragon glass

WackySwacky

Well the name of the book series is "A Song of Ice and Fire".

WackySwacky

This episode also pretty much guarantees that all of the surviving Wildlings will be on Jon's side from here on, because they've now all seen first hand that they need each other in order to survive.

WackySwacky

They only adapted around 30% of the storylines in books 4 and 5. And even then, they changed the stories they did adapt. They clearly had a lot of source material to work with, they just decided at this point that they'd rather end the show quickly rather than wait another 5 to 10 years for Martin to release the last two books (which still haven't been released) so that they could adapt the rest of the books properly.

WackySwacky

People who read the books could see the decline in the show's writing at the end of Season 3. Season 4 made a lot of changes and season 5 even more so. Barely anything in season 6 was in the books, and season 7 and 8 are made up by the show writers entirely. People who haven't read the books aren't aware of the changes being made, and admittedly if you didn't know any better it would hard to tell the decline in quality. However, the decline becomes extremely apparent to everybody in seasons 7 and 8.

Anonymous

My all-time favourite scene. Seeing Jon at his full potential is so fulfilling, as is the Valyrian steel revelation. Next two episodes will be fun!!

WackySwacky

Barristan is a living legend in the books. The way his past feats are described pretty much make him out to be the biggest badass who ever lived. The only other characters who even come close to his skill are Jamie (before losing his hand) and Arthur Dayne. Even at his old age, Barristan still dominates every fight he gets in. He would have cut through those Harpy's Sons like carving a cake.

Tranquil_Gnome

I think this season is the last that the show runners have the books to pull from. They mostly kept to the first three books but not so much with fourth and fifth books. To be fair the last two books are my least favorite. Also there is so much material, if they were true to the books always the show would have lasted 12 seasons or more. The author, G.R.R. Martin, has not written any more for GoT since 2011. He has put out other books. Not sure if the delay is because of the show ending before he was able to end it. Maybe HBO paid him off not to end it as the people who read the books knew everything that was going to happen and sometimes spoiled it as episodes came out. Who knows . . . Both have their value. The books are complex and you get to see things from various character's point of view. But the show has brought so many things and characters to life. I can forgive the changes and enjoy the new storylines. There are several characters in the books that I don't really like yet on the show I adore them.

Anonymous

This episode is by far my favorite of all of them. Just perfect in almost every way and properly sets up the true danger that the Night King imposed. Besides the funny but brutal life of the Wildlings we get a full scope of the night king and what he can do. Prior to this episode we really didn't have a full idea of how his powers worked and what it took to raise the dead. We did see him changing the baby and the other white walkers (not the wights), but for all we knew he had to raise each one individually. After all we never saw one being raised by them in person. Then we get this spectacular battle where the true nature of the wights are seen. They are difficult to kill and can take multiple people to bring them down. The wildlings are no trained army but they do know how to fight. Not to mention we get to see the scene where they run off a cliff then get back up like it was nothing. Then after everything they've dealt with that episode we see the end where we get a full scope of what the night king can and will do. He can raise people almost instantly, en masse, even if they are out of sight. That means in the middle of battle he could raise everyone who died and make them part of his army. John now realizes the true mountain he has to battle to even get remotely close at winning.

Alex B

The book series as a whole is called A Song of Ice and Fire, so you are picking up on the connection of going back and fourth

Joseph

You're almost graduated from a Summer child to child of Winter.

Paul Gibbons

I don't think there was anything underhanded going on like that reading about what happened with the last 2 published books and the length of time it took for even them to come out when the first 3 came out in a short period shows he was in trouble with the story a long time ago.

Paul Gibbons

About Barristan's death, we're right on the cusp at this point for some stories of being up to book date he could well have been for the chop soon anyway and Ian McElhinney was 66 by this point his time as a great warrior is passing him by.

Anonymous

The show diverged from the books in small ways from the very beginning, and even the first three books weren't followed perfectly. There were enough differences that it only stood to reason that now the show has diverged greatly from the books.

Ilsuk Yang

So, those weren't her daughters. They just reminded her of her daughters, so she couldn't bring herself to fight those children. On another note, I think it's good that you're only doing two episodes this week as this is a good episode to end the week on (it's either my second favorite or my favorite episode since I usually go back forth between this episode and another episode as my favorite). You'll need time to recover from this episode as the last two episodes of the season are humdingers!

Joseph Phillips

That was absolutely the correct reaction to this episode. (Not that there is a correct reaction to a show.)

Tom Fehr

yep, still annoying that the white walkers are in the thumbnail for this one...

Alan Kobb

Arya's thin man is simply an insurance agent, but not an honest one. Karsi, the wildling leader, managed to save her daughters. They can count themselves lucky if they never see their mother again. The White Walkers don't care about good fighters or bad, children or adults. They go for sheer numbers. It's all just meat for their army. Also, to clear something up, the White Walkers are the ones that you called the leaders. As you saw, the flames parted for the White Walker. They are immune to fire, but cna be killed by Dragonglass or Viserian Steel. The turned people are wights. Wights are similar to zombies, but they are controlled by an outside source (like the White Walkers), while Zombies are not controlled by anyone. Wun Wun has an interesting story about him. George R.R. Martin, a fan of the Football Giants (like me), made a bet with his friend Patrick St. Denis over a game against the Dallas Cowboys. When the Giants beat the Cowboys, George won the right to write a New York Giant into one of his books. Wun Wun is #11 - The Giants legendary QB Phil Simms. In the books, Wun Wun killed Ser Patrik.

Tom Fehr

to clarify - i dont think anyone was "raised" until the very end when he raised his hands. the other zombies fighting before that were existing members of the army of the dead i believe. certainly those were not her children that killed her, but she just got taken aback and couldnt fight children because it reminded her of her daughters, i think.

Paul Gibbons

Like the branched timelines in Endgame once they leave they only get further away.

Paul Gibbons

Is it sick to wonder what would occur if we married Ramsey and the Waif?

Petteri Ahlberg

Showing a White walker in the thumbnail is such a amateur move from HBO..

Conzi

My theory is that all the major plot points are still what is going to happen in the book. I think the problem is that the showrunners didn't feel confident filling in the gaps that were in George's outline. Season 6 is great because George was working on the material for that book and would have a strong outline of the story structure. Season 7 & 8 are almost delivered as an outline which is why it feels so rushed and character decisions feel contrived. Things like Barristan's death and Sansa marrying Ramsay are ways of simplifying the books ever growing plot so that the show could start the end game. It makes sense from the creator's perspective, but the show does suffer more and more for it. I also think the writers can be really good. They wrote the whole "chaos is a ladder sequence" after all and a ton of other scenes that aren't in the book that are great. But without the source material it became harder for them to be as consistent. Also just for fun, the show passes the books at a couple points for where we are at now: Sansa is still in Eerie (someone else marries Ramsay), Tyrion is outside the gates of Mereen, Mance went south with Stannis and is still alive (presumably - it's complicated.) Extra fun plot left out of the show in its entirety: After being found washed ashore with her throat slit open, Catelyn is brought back from the dead by the Brotherhood Without Banners and begins leading them.

Tadpoleaxe

If it helps at all, the Bolton sigil has the man upside down on the cross.

Flukemarm

Fun book theory (with evidence supporting it): the two farm boys were Theon's bastards.

Anonymous

this episode is so rad

Flukemarm

Stannis sailed his army to the wall to save the Night's Watch and gave Jon the ships because he wants to win the war against darkness.

lemmy101

A lot of the stuff in S6 is made up for the show - however there are huge moments that are definitely intended by the author of the book and have all the foreshadowing in place that these are 'book things' - just so the showrunners don't get the credit for all the most amazing stuff about S6 :D.

Michael Labs

Prevailing thought of mine on the last minute of the episode: "That's one hell of a way to achieve world peace..."

Anthony Dimas

at the end they were not rowing because of the fear and shock of seeing their home destroyed and people murdered and converted

"I find it interesting that we're going from snow and ice to fire." -- YouTube reactor commenting on the TV show based on "A Song of Ice and Fire"

Regarding Sansa: you have to remember how vulnerable her situation is. She is the daughter of a "traitor to the realm", the Queen Mother thinks she conspired to kill Joffrey, and she has no family or friends to turn to now that Littlefinger is far gone. There's little hope now that the candle in the window option is gone. She needs to get away from Winterfell, that's the only way. The reason the Boltons want her is to win over some of the North. All the Boltons have to do is turn her over to Cersei. Their need for northern love is not that urgent that they wouldn't do it if she became a problem. If she was of a house that would back her up (and if Littlefinger wasn't compromised and in it all for himself) then Ramsey might feel much more constraint. Regarding changes to the books: the last three seasons, in particular, are not based on the books b/c Martin hasn't published the last novel yet. They tv writers were privy to the story from him and he was quite involved, at least that's what I've read.

Kevin Anand

You nailed it in the intro. Sansa never marries Ramsay in the books, it just doesn't make sense for her character. She's currently learning to manipulate the people in the Vale in the books, under Littlefinger's tutelage.

Thomas Yanez

It has been often mentioned that Martin shared his "outline" for the rest of the story with the writers so that they knew the big story points. Whether they actually stuck to the outline, we won't know until Martin publishes the rest of the books... if he ever does.

Thomas Yanez

I know that's the writers' excuse, but without firsthand knowledge that the dead can't swim, I'd be rowing my ass off to get as far away from the shore as possible, or yelling at the person with the oars to do so.

Thomas Yanez

Even in the early seasons, they did take liberties. I'm a big fan of one of the things the writers made up : Ros.

AC5555

I totally agree with you on Karsi (the Wildling badass chieftain woman). She was such an awesome character. Wildling women and Wildlings are great in general, and Karsi made me teary eyed remembering Ygritte. Wish she didn't die and was around far longer. But I guess that's what makes her role good. Short and sweet.

Ellis Hugh

Arya has had the best titles - the show doesn't give voice to them, but in Harrenhal, whenever she whispered a name that person died and she became 'the ghost of Harrenhal'... in this episode we get to meet 'Cat of the Canals'... Regarding the Waif and her being 'jealous' - I won't get into that, but we've already seen that Jaqen Hagar's face may not be his true face, so it stands to reason that the Waif's face may also not be her true face. She might be much older, or might not be a girl at all. Just something to keep in mind when considering the Faceless Men.

Daniel Vezina

Steel + Dragonglass(obsidian) + Dragon breath= Valyrian steel

Ellis Hugh

Natalie-ism for the day: "I don't like these cannibal guys with the weird facial scarring, they're so annoying..."

Anonymous

I always forgot how interesting the conversation between Sam and Olly in this episode.

Anonymous

The way this goes from crazy intense to silently terrifying is so very well done. This is when they became the scariest enemy force on film for me. The way the blizzard rolls in with them, the leaders sitting almost mystically on the ridge, the perfect gait of the King walking out on the dock and the silence other than the lapping water.... amazing!

Cripkie

lol people think the stereotype that red heads are emotional means they are weak. People forget rage is also an emotion.

Cripkie

luv the outfit, suites you. very 80s.

This episode is one of the reasons i joined your patreon and your reaction didn't disappoint! I loved your anxiety and fear in this episode. I have realised that through your emotional reactions i get to relive these episodes again! so thanks! The amount you cry and what sets you off is also quite entertaining (no offense of course), and the amount you have cried in this series already, means there will be plenty more tears to come! haha keep those tissues close! haha Good luck Nat

Alan Kobb

Below is a book spoiler, so don't read ahead if you plan on reading the books. If Sansa' storyline doesn't make so much sense to you, this is one of the areas where the books vary greatly from the show. I don't want to tell you too much, but at this point in the books, Sansa is still in The Vale, and is preparing to marry Robin. Ramsey Bolton has engaged in a fraud. After Ned was killed, they captured Sansa's best friend, Jeyne Poole. Littlefinger got hold of her, pinned a wolf pin on her and sent her to Winterfell, claiming that she is Arya Stark. Ransey knew that she was a fake, but married her in order to cement his claim on Winterfell in the eyes of the Northmen. She has gone along with the ruse, but she is being mistreated, and weeps constantly, so the Northerners are angry at the Boltons anyway because he is making little Arya Stark cry.

G. T. Blackwell

I assume others have mentioned it (and I probably have commented something along these lines previously, I don't remember) but I'd like to suggest The Expanse. It's on Amazon Prime, so many more people could watch without subscribing to a streaming service they don't already pay for, and the 6th and final season is coming out later this year or early next year, so the timing works out pretty well.

My_Cousin_Mose

I probably wont be defending the show much past this point but it wasn't convenient in a dumb way that Stannis had all them ships ready to go. That's how he and his army got to the wall and as they were marching to winterfell he didn't need them again for some time.

Anonymous

That would be interesting for sure but they didn’t hint that at all in the show. Probably just cuz she has kids it was horrifying to see undead kids. That’s my interpretation anyway. Man I wish that character lived she was great I think she would have been incredible to have around for the final battle.

Anonymous

A second this, it's an incredible show with amazing characters

Daniel Campbell MacDonald

Personally, I find it pretty annoying when book readers do the whole "Well, in the books..." crap. Let show onlies watch the show without book input. Knowing that certain changes were made gives an incentive for show onlies to dislike aspects of the show that they may not have minded otherwise. Annoying.

My_Cousin_Mose

Fair enough. We book readers feel annoyed when show runners make downright stupid and character/lore breaking decisions just to make the show more accessible to normies.

My_Cousin_Mose

Can anyone explain why in season 1 normal weapons were completely ineffective against wights but in this episode Tormund and that girl wildling Natalie liked were killing them easily with basic betty weapons?

Steve J

clearly you just have to swing them harder, then they work no problem.

Anonymous

I disagree with your criticism of Sansa for not directly defying Ramsay, but this was a great episode and reaction. Hardhome is so intense!

Paul Gibbons

Well reasoned points for a change on here Connor. The one thing everyone forgets when they say the last 2 seasons rushed to finish is just how expensive it is to keep long running shows going there is a reason most networks sign cast up to 7 season deals and that is to prevent having to negotiate pay increases before that. The 5 leads got increases for S7+8 to $1.1m an ep that could have been $55m a season for just not counting the other 40 actors that's why the ep count was cut to increase budget for other areas if they had gone past S8 they would have all come back to re-negotiate more increases that would have been unaffordable and anyone who thinks that doesn't happen should look at Friends/Big Bang/Modern Family to see and why long running shows are comedies with only several cast or things like Walking Dead that change cast frequently. The other reason Hbo at the time before the big uptick in streaming was not a bottomless pit of money and GOT was the most pirated show ever if we'd all payed the man we might have got more years.

Aaron

Yeah, I gotta disagree with your assessment of Sansa, thinking she should have more power in her marriage. If you have any experience working with people who survive long, sustained, seriously abusive environments, they do not become more resilient to it. More observant in some ways and less trusting of others sure. But not better able to endure. If anything they become more submissive. And I don't mean environments where your boyfriend/girlfriend is arrogant, manipulative, uncaring, selfish and yells a lot. I'm talking the Ramsey Boltons of the world who routinely HURT you. Every study ever done shows that people who are constantly under threat of physical harm lose cognitive power and reasoning skills because of it. It literally makes you meek and less intelligent. That's why you always hear stories of people who stay with abusive husbands for years and decades. Or children with parents who beat them are 10 times s likely to wind up an alcoholic, drug addict, or with an abusive spouse, or imprisoned, or dead. It doesn't take long to train a victim into going along with pretty much anything.

Mike LL

This is the comment I was looking for, if you hadn't said it, I would have!

The thin man is the first insurance salesman. And yes, it is weird but we do it everyday.
