I’m so excited for you to watch! I looooved seasons 4,5,& 6

Darryl Low

Season 5 already. The journey continues. "Hello everybody. Goodbye everybody" ha ha. Tyler's a hoot. I really enjoy your season retrospectives together. "No wonder I didn't like this little bitch!"😂 Some things never change. Thanks for a fine video today Nat 💛

R.BGames37

Here we go. Season 5.. so excited.. this is one of my favorite seasons in all of G.o.T

Justin Credible

George RR Martin has said the wildlings were inspired by Scots of Roman era Britain and "The Wall" is Hadrian's Wall. The wall Rome built to separate the Scots from the rest of Britain. And apparently there was a real Night's Watch that guarded Hadrian's Wall. It wasn't called that, but the concept is real.

Justin Credible

Season 5 ends where the books end. So the cliffhangers that happen left everyone hanging. Season 6 is mostly good. 7 isn't great, but you see it going downhill. Season 8 is a dumpster fire put out by dropping a porta-potty on top. The cast and crew are amazing. The writing is inexcusably bad.

John

Season 5 was the last season they “follow” because the author still hasn’t released a book after the ending of season 5. The author gave the directors a outline of how the story was going to end and how season 6 will play out so technically season 6 still follows the source that the author plans to release whenever he decides to finish the next book

Dante

To answer your question about when they stopped following the books, Season 5 still has a good amount of book material in it but less so than the previous seasons. Starting with the season 6 premiere is when they are fully passed the books story wise, however there are still some things in season 6 that are drawn from the books and some of the setup in them. Seasons 7 and 8 are pretty much solely Dan & Dave’s vision with them working off an outline for the future books that GRRM gave them. I don’t like setting expectations and I hate that you already have some set for you, but there’s just no way to avoid that for this show. I just hope you’re able to keep an open mind and not let other people’s opinions affect your enjoyment of the show one way or the other :)

Ian

Season 5 here we are great to get another intro with tyler and wonderful to see koda it's been a while, the end of season 5 is the end of the last book out thus far but g r r Martin worked with the guys throughout season 6 for sure not sure about season 7 but 6 followed most of the story he is telling. Righto great intro now for the main event 💛

John

And if anything the ending wasn’t good because they went longer and stalled ,it’s the opposite actually. They completely rushed it and it was clear to everyone that they needed atleast another season but i guess the directors were done with it .

Interesting thing about Sansa’s hair and costume design - her look tends to reflect the greatest influence in her at that time. We see in season 1 her fast change from the northern style to one that is similar to Cersei’s hairstyle. Once Margaery is introduced, Sansa begins to adopt typical High Garden styles. Now, as you pointed out with her dark hair, she is reflecting Littlefinger.

No spoilers... But I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed the ending of the series. I think part of it was having never read the books, I didn't have that hanging in the air to cloud my opinion. I did have a few issues here and there (nothing is perfect), but overall I think it came down to an issue of some fans not getting exactly what they wanted, and exactly how they wanted it.... Which as you said, is a problem with almost any show. That being said, enjoy, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts either way.

Randee Carreno

Happy Tuesday, Natalie! 😊 Awww! Great seeing Koda in the intro. Enjoyed the recap with Tyler in the beginning. Since this was a season premiere episode, I decided to watch this reaction right away. Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Luis Torrefranca

I think part of why Oberyn was so insistent on Gregor's confession was less about hubris or catharsis, but he believed Tywin gave Gregor the order and wanted to implicate him as well. "Who gave you the order?!" While pointing at Tywin. He wanted to get to everyone involved in what happened, not just Gregor.

Jai Nelson

**Not a spoiler** the ending being disliked is actually the opposite of them going too long. If they told the same story with 10 seasons, it wouldn’t have a lot of the flaws that it has. It was rushed for god knows what reason. Maybe D&D are allergic to money.

Ppl, or reactors for all it matters, judging peoples decisions by today's "morals" usually is what unnerves me more than anything else. As Natty herself said at the end smth like "there's nuances b*tches, there s not only black and white", is what I am referring to and is what probably denies her to enjoy the series even more up to this point imo.(As she said it more like in the moment) Cersey is not just evil. Ramsay is not just evil. Same goes for Tywin etc or Khaleesi who is not just a genius queen and godlike (she 's more like a clueless mascot with a pretty face in my opinion). Try seeing every chars decision in their own light, why did they do it? Not just hate a character because he s not popular. Usually they had their reasons to do stuff... or been put in their shoes, given the info they have? Would you choose differently? As for C and R had been my favorites so far, because they re pragamatic and honest to themselves for example.

Calo Grsf

Thank you Nat, your reaction helped me a lot today, you're the best! 😌(especially Koda haha) I love your chat with Tyler, it's interesting to hear and see how your feelings evolve during the show! I think it's better you watch all the show to have your own opinion. I hope you're fine, take care, be safe and stay golden as you are! 💛

My Toasty Toast

Per yours and Tyler’s point about shows not knowing when to end and going on a bit too long, game of thrones was weirdly the opposite. Without spoiling, the writers actually tried to condense the ending even though HBO wanted them to do more episodes. The creators actually were given an extra year to do the final season, and they chose to rush it for whatever reason. The ending suffers because it’s actually rushed, rather than given time and space for moments and character developments to naturally hit and occur. Would also like to point out a great show in my opinion that, like Breaking Bad, manages to know when to end is Black Sails. The first season is “meh” but everything about it was amazing and is really not well known because game of thrones took the spotlight for years while Black Sails was airing. Would love to see your thoughts on the show if you ever end up reacting to it

Good episode! would be interesting to hear more of your opinions on the religions of Westeros. Whether you IRL believe or not, in this fictional world, Gods exist. or at the very least the religions wield very real supernatural powers that we have seen. For all Melisandre's horror in his name, in S3 the lord of light actually resurrects Beric Dondarrion. In a world like that, Atheism becomes a much harder stance to take. The fire literally does talk to Melisandre.

codenamewitch xx

As someone that has read the books, the final ending place of each character is not that hard to believe. A lot of the developments in the book actually point to a lot of the end results being what they are - however in my opinion it was more of the portrayal of how fast the characters had to develop in the past 2 seasons to get from point B to C compared to the gradual developments that took place getting the characters from A to B across 6 seasons.

john collins

seasons 7 and 8 were the only seasons with no source material. Martin did have to start writing the books as the show was continuing during season 5 and I think he finished the last available book just before the filming of season 6 if i remember correctly

sheriffjt

Not sure I can disagree more with this assessment, but I likewise don't feel like any discussion can be had without spoilers

sheriffjt

Many people in this thread saying the show ended too soon. Without discussing specifics here, consider what those episodes would have contained had they existed. Stretching that out over 2 more seasons would have led to some terrible boring episodes and even more complaints.

Alan Kobb

Tuesday night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until Friday. I shall not be interrupted, not pause to take a leak, take no phone calls. I shall wear my PJs and win no glory. I shall live and die in front of Natalie's reaction. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the SOFA. I am the guy that goes on Discord and posts "Did Jon really do THAT?!?" . I pledge my life and honor to the Game of Thrones watch, for this Tuesday night and all the nights to come. The witch was Maggie the Frog. So far much of what she said has come true. At the time, the Lannisters were negotiating to marry Cersei to Prince Rheagar, the King's eldest son, but soon after this, The Mad King nixed the betrothal. She married King Robert after the rebellion. She and Robert had no children, but she had 3 and Robert had many. Now, of course she is no longer the Queen. Margary is Queen. Younger and more beautiful and in a position to take everything from Cersei. The last thing. Her children would wear shrouds of gold. Joffrey's burial shroud was gold, and she has 2 other children... When you see Cersei's look of hatred for Margary, you know why.

My_Cousin_Mose

I'm compelled to agree with Tyler on "which season they stop following the books". I mean they started leaving a lot out and changing stuff in season 2, and they keep using stuff in the books up through season 6. But in season 6 the stuff from the books is far and few between, most of the season is stuff written by the showrunners. The problem with GOT is not that it went on too long but the opposite. George R R Martin and HBO both wanted to do several more seasons but the show runners said something along the lines of "Nope we are doing 74 episodes and thats it".

Kristine Friling

I personally like all of GOT, was the ending where I wanted it to be, no, but I didn't *hate* it. Also I actually like the new Star Wars Trilogy. I just love the universe as a whole and I enjoy it all. Being a purist on so many franchises just sounds too exhausting when you should just enjoy the entertainment. *shrug* I am just enjoying content I enjoy being released. I am loving all the fantasy based content and comic book content. It is fun to me and I take what I can get. :)

Jai Nelson

Very true. I don’t see evidence for any gods in this world, but in the Thrones world it’s pretty clear, best to pick a god and stick to it. I wouldn’t want to cross the Lord of Light, fuckin terrifying.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

That was funny, as you guys were talking about how many great shows end shitty the two shows that came to my mind were, the Office, still one of my all times, they should have stopped at 6 seasons at most, and Breaking Bad still stands as the perfect show, but yeah most great shows have questionable endings, The Sopranos and Mad Men, well I was ok with those, meh... My opinion is American shows should be more like (most, Doctor Who a notable exception) British shows, they know when to end the show instead of milking it to the last sour drop. Also, as far as the Wildlings, it's known George Martin takes A LOT from actual history, the wall is definitely based on Hadrian's Wall in Northern Britain (England?), which the Roman's built to try to keep the "Picts" et al (that's not what they called themselves, the word comes from the Latin word for "painted") out of Roman conquered territories to the south. So I see the Wildlings like the "Barbarians" north of the Roman Empire who were really just fighting to keep their lands and autonomy. Mance kind of reminds me a little of Alaric, leader of the newly united Goths (not those Goths, the Visigoths, or Western Goths), as the Huns in the East (the unstoppable White Walkers in this analogy) grew in power they pushed west forcing tribes like the Goths into Roman territories. Out of necessity the Goths made a deal with the Romans to act as a buffer against the other barbarian tribes but that's where the analogy ends because the Romans didn't hold up their end and Alaric led the Goths to Rome itself, sacking it, symbolically signalling the eventual fall of the western Roman Empire. Anyway, sorry about that but I just really love how GRR Martin blends history and fantasy and we got this imperfect but incredible show. Good day all.

WackySwacky

The showrunners were kinda of married to the idea of "7 books, 7 seasons". The problem with that is that books 6 and 7 never came out. So as the show went on they took more and more liberties with the story, making changes and cutting plotlines completely. Then, when they finally reached the end of the books, they decided that instead of waiting for Martin to finish they would just make up their own story. So seasons 5 through 8 became mostly fan-fiction. Ultimately, if George had finished the books in time, the show would have turned out great. But that didn't happen, so now only half of the show is great, and the other half is fake filler.

WackySwacky

George R.R. Martin doesn't even know himself how his books are going to end. That's why it's taken him over a decade to write book 6. The outline he gave the showrunners is like, the basest of skeletons for his books. The way it was written in the show didn't even make sense.

Anonymous

"There are zombies coming, there are White Walkers, there are dragons, but everybody in Westeros is just bickering" And that is why the book series is called A Song of Ice and Fire, and this show isn't. Also, that's a loose version of what Ned explains to Arya in the books ("summer is the time for squabbles"), somewhat repeated in a scene in Season 1.

WackySwacky

I actually like the first season of Black Sails. Don't really understand why some people dislike it.

Anonymous

Oh my god kodas cute

WackySwacky

Book 5 was finished in 2011, just after the first episode of season 1 of Game of Thrones aired. That was the last book released. Book 6 is still unreleased. He is still writing it. So yeah, all 8 seasons of Game of Thrones were made after the last book in the series was released, and book 6 is STILL not finished. The book that George released somewhat recently was Fire & Blood, which is a prequel to Game of Thrones and what the new HBO show "House of the Dragon" is based off of.

WackySwacky

Well, the showrunners could have actually adapted what was in books 4 and 5, instead of ignoring 80% of the content in those books. That would have given them at least 2 or 3 more seasons of material. Then they could have pulled a Sparticus (the Stars show), and made a few prequel shows in the mean time to give Martin some more time to finish his books. Of course, Martin would have probably finished book 6 eventually for the show, but I think the showrunners at HBO realized that waiting for book 7 to release would probably take decades, so they figured that they should just cut their losses and end the show with some made up fan-fiction. That way the actors and crew can move on with their lives and not spend the next few decades waiting on Martin to finish his books.

This season might be a hard watch for Nat

WackySwacky

In the books, Tyrion knew about the secret passage to the Hand's Chamber because it's existence was already established to him previously. This is never shown in the show.

Love the recaps u do with Tyler That’a great

Stephen Woods

Hey Natalie, After your facial, do you know how Mance Rayder felt on his Pyre? Only kidding, and glad you are recovered now.

Joe Mama

This season has one of my favorite episodes of all time (Hardhome)

Tadpoleaxe

Tyrion and Varys are in Pentos (Across the narrow sea on the continent of Essos). They are guests of Varys' friend and ally Illyrio Mopatis who was also guesting Viserys and Daenerys at the start of the story. We also saw Illyrios briefly in the tunnels under the Red Keep when Arya was chasing cats. Also, KODA! Love him!

Obsolyeet

So 2011 was the last year GRRM published a book in this series (book 5 - A Dance with Dragons). This is this same year HBO started season 1 of the tv show. Honestly, if he hasn't finished the series by now, we might have to accept he never will. I'm fairly convinced he doesn't know how he wants to end it. And the unknown is somehow better than what we might get. I mean the guy is 72 years old so he is quite literally "on the clock" here. The guy could have a stroke or something tomorrow. Plus HBO has thrown money at him to help work on the spin-off shows they are producing so this will only delay him getting back to this particular storyline. I'm still hopeful we will get another book or books but I'm also tempering my expectations.

Paul Gibbons

No the budget was done with it the major problem with any show that runs long everyone wants paying and with a cast that size it was quite unworkable and the reason episode numbers were cut to save money for production all the major actors had resigned much inflated deals for 7+8 and would have come back wanting more for a season 9 or 10 and HBO isn't a bottomless pit of money.

WackySwacky

The costume design definitely takes a dip in quality in the later seasons. They go from medieval inspired to pure fantasy schlock. Sansa's outfits become kinda cringy as the show progresses.

WackySwacky

Yeah, he was trying to put Tywin on the spot. His goal was to get Gregor AND Tywin, not just Gregor.

mike

I have said my farewell to the Ice and Fire series. its gotten impossible to still believe we'll ever see books 6 and 7. I just wish he had accepted that fact earlier and stayed on with the show. At least we would have had a complete version of his story in film if not in book. I would still rather George focus on the prequel that is scheduled for 2022. The plot in Fire & Blood is great, and with good dialogue from him and co, it could be a great show.

Al Baughman

I really like you & Tyler's preseason debrief, so I can chuckle about certain predictions! Like before season 4 when Tyler said something like "I'm excited for Dany to get across the sea finally." I thought, well you're gonna be waiting a little bit longer LOL

Daniel Vezina

In Season1 Bronn took Shea from Tywin, that's why she went back to him. Ginger cunt 3 tents down, that was Tywin tent.

Malamute

The story starts getting squirrely in season 5 as far as story goes. He was right. But, its fine.

warcrimes

Nope. Bronn said he punched the officer, Tywin not only didn't have a mark on him the next day, Bronn would be dead.

Anonymous

As if I didn't already love you, then you go out and speak absolute truth about the last season of The Office. I have always felt like I was in the minority in that respect. THANK YOU!!!

Peter Yocum

Right? Hardhome blew me away when it first aired. It took me completely by surprise and was amazing.

Mike Api

Side note - dear god that's an adorable pooch! I know the struggle of being allergic to your own pet alllllll tooooooo well.

Nathan Elkin

Why is it that everyone has different sounding voices but we can all do that same silly voice she used in the intro?

Mike H

Tyler's heart broke in the last minute of this episode! 😂 Poor guy heard his fiancé love another.

Anonymous

The series diverges from the books significantly at this point in the series, and the series continues past the time written in the books.

Anonymous

I just assumed it was from the map he got from season 2

Anonymous

It definitely gets darker... Grab a drink, grab a snack, and lets get into the series!

Ellis Hugh

The Wildlings actually could be a metaphor for immigrants in that they want to cross the wall to get into the Seven Kingdoms and enjoy their protections... IF you limit that metaphor to those who enter the country illegally, i.e., they want to enjoy those protections without necessarily obeying the laws that come with them ("We do not kneel").

Ellis Hugh

I'm only saying this because you specifically asked... some parts of season five happen after the books have ended, but the final thing you see in this season is the final thing that happens in the books (thus far). A few parts of season six also happen before the books end as well.

Matt O'Keefe

I'm glad you and Tyler spoke about people's opinions about the end of GOT. In my opinion, while the end was not great in some ways (it ruined the show completely for some), I liked a good amount of it and thought a fair amount was dog shit. But when it comes down to the show as a whole, I think there is too much good and great about the show taken together, I think the show was a great adventure with so many amazing scenes and acting that was it completely worth it for me.

Sinewmire

About Jaime's name... there's something historians call the Tiffany Paradox. It's where something sounds so historically incorrect that it can't be used, despite being correct. Tiffany originate in ancient Greece (Theophania) but it sounds too modern to our ears, and jerks us out of immersion.

Linus Marjeta

Yea, saying watching GoT is meaningless because the ending was shit, is like saying living life is meaningless because you're going to die either way. Like, you can still enjoy a great deal of it even if the end is bad. "The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant".
