So excited for this. Love these films, but temple is by far my favourite

R.BGames37

Love your shirt Nat. And thank you for upload this movie.

Ian

Looking forward to this but have to watch tomorrow 🤠 have a great weekend nat💛 you deserve it! what an emotional week it's been! endgame next super excited for that one until then take care and stay golden 💛

Logan Kerlee

Starting this up in just a minute! :D

Randee Carreno

Happy Friday, Natalie! 😊 Loved the intro. This movie takes place before the events of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I think that this was the first PG-13 rated movie because of the heart being ripped out scene. Fun Fact: this movie is where director Steven Spielberg met his now wife Kate Capshaw who plays Willie. The kid that plays Short Round is in the movie "The Goonies", which is another fun movie that I highly recommend. The cavern of bugs doesn't bother me as much as the heart ripping out scene. Years later that scene makes me cringe. LOL! Have a great day today! 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

JediLounger

I have never understood the hate Temple of Doom gets. I think most of it is due to it just being a follow up to Raiders of the Lost Ark, which is a near perfect film in all respects. When judged in a vacuum I like all three of the original movies equally. I remember watching it when I was little. I even remember when my mom would send me out of the room during THAT scene lol.

Danishprince

Mythbusters actually tested the survivability of jumping out from an airplane in such a life raft and it is totally possible actually :D

Calo Grsf

Nat as we like! Smiling, full of laughter and shouting in a good mood! Thank you for this magical reaction 😁 I really wonder what it would be like to go on a little jungle tour with you 😆 However to inform you a bit, India was an English colony, so it's not illogical some of the villagers speak English (but I imagine you know it but in the moment you were distracted) , and in India there are no jaguars but tigers and panthers 🐯 Your intro was great too! I hope you're well, be safe, take care and stay golden! 💛

Valar Dohaeris

This is the first Indi movie I ever saw as a child, and I watched it so many times that I know every line, every inflexion, every scream... I love it so much. Pure fun for the ages...

Thomas Yanez

PG-13 was created because this movie was released as a PG (it still carries that rating) and it was decided we needed something between PG and R. "Red Dawn" was the first movie actually released as a PG-13.

Thomas Yanez

I don't hate the movie, but I'd definitely put it at the bottom of the trilogy. Maybe if there was a fourth movie, it would have been even worse, but thankfully no such movie was ever made. EVER.

Jomero

"Gross moments..." Temple of Doom was the straw that broke the MPAA's back to create the PG-13 rating. Before it, you had G, PG, and then it jumped right to R. And I just have to say (since we know she's not watching Crystal Skull): People complained about "nuking the fridge" but were 100% fine with the life raft scene? My eye rolls are doing eye rolls.

Anonymous

Eagerly waiting for endgame

Anonymous

symbol of the movie as a whole, with my friends and I, it started with the mole hill intro, then Indy jedi swinging around in the warehouse, topped off with the fridge. It was the moment of realization that move was gonna suck... for me the worst eye roll was the sword fight on the trucks. Temple of Doom on my end is pretty cringe, but I don't run for the hills if it is on.

Paul C

I keep picturing this movie as a gag from Family Guy with Stewie as Short Round (in a scene where he, Indy, and Willie screaming her head off, are about to be crushed by a spiked ceiling), going: "Lady only here cause she humpin' director".

Anonymous

Not going to lie. I like Kingdom of Crystal Skull better than Temple of doom.

Darryl Low

Amazing intro Nat. I loved it! 😊 Another Ford Friday movie to enjoy. This movie is set in 1935, the year before Raiders. A lot of the action scenes were inspired by the 30's movie Gunga Din, which was also about taking on the Thuggee cult. The big guy Indy fights on the conveyor belt is the same actor who played the big German he fought under the plane in Raiders. I love John Williams' score for this one. He uses a lot of the technique called Mickey Mousing, using the orchestra to punctuate the onscreen action precisely.

Darryl Low

"Vampire bats are a daytime thing, not something I'd look for in a property" and "There's a secret passageway behind the boobs." Nattie G, you are just the best 😄 Thanks for a fun end to the week. I enjoyed watching this movie along with you, and as always thanks for another great week of videos. Have a relaxing weekend Nat 💛

Ben Wheeler

Those weren't vampire bats, but some kind of fruit bat I think. Vampires are very small, which doesn't play as well on screen lol

Anonymous

I'm surprised you didn't recognise Dan Aykroyd playing the guy they meet at the airport as they escape Shanghai. Also the guard who gets eaten by the crusher was played by the same guy that got decapitated by the plane in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Anonymous

When I saw this in theaters , I thought Kate Capshaw was the hottest woman I'd ever seen .

Lee Gannon

Pat Roach who played the lead guard appears in the first and third films also (he has two roles in Raiders) but is probably best known to people in the 1980's as Bomber in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet!

Elvenwitch

I always find it interesting when mysticism of one flavor is considered a religion, but others are magic. If you are willing to believe that an entire people survived wandering in the desert for 40 years with God providing mana for sustenance. Or that a man crucified to death returned to life and ascended to heaven to cleanse your sins. But whenever non-Judeo-Christian religions are portrayed, it is magic, and that is so unbelievable.

Ben Wheeler

And Pat Roach, the giant Indy has to fight towards the end, is actually in each of the first three films. He was the big Nazi who was beating the crap out of Indy under the plane in Raiders before falling into the propeller.

Aaron Chandler

Best part of the reaction is Natalie trying to work out the logistics of the blood distribution so the Thugees can take over the world. You missed the Dan Aykroyd cameo. Yeah, this is a departure from the other two but it's a good time if you turn off your brain and just let the fun happen.

Kiera

The "Thuggee Cult" portrayed in the film is nothing more than a Hollywood invention taking inspiration from earlier incidents in history and inflating them, in addition to Imperial British propaganda of the time! Also an important point to make is the portrayal of Indian cuisine in the film, which is horrific and understandably insulting to Indians. While Indians do have many dishes based around meat such things as monkey brains, baby snakes, and eyeball soup are not considered national or cultural dishes. That I'm aware of. An easy (distant) last place on my list of the three movies. Far too hammy and Willie Scott is awful. Happily though, the best of the three is coming up and I can't wait! It still has magic of a sort but the more..."magical" sort of magic, rather than the in your face effects kind of magic.

Anonymous

Heck, I grew up with this movie and I didn’t realize it was him until about twenty years ago!

Thomas Yanez

Did she say... "Attack of the Clone Wars"?

Anonymous

I’m just at that sequence and I was thinking the same thing. “That’s a lot of work...”

Anonymous

Am I watching a Cinema Sins episode? haha

This_Jedi_crafts

This was MUCH more enjoyable watching Nat "watch" it - but Cape Capshaw just stunk up the screen. Like either be committed to the "style" or don't "try." But loved a lot of laughs and some jump-scares that got Nat!

Thomas Yanez

Things you pointed out : hammier, cheesier, more annoying characters, a forced romance built on no chemistry, etc. Now you see why so many of us don't like it as much. It's hard to enjoy something when you're facepalming half the time.

Matthew Periolat

What a treat watching you react to the musical to open the movie. You can take a theater kid out of the theater but you can’t take the theater out of the theater kid. And your lines about this being a ride? You are partially right, not only due to the Indy ride at Disneyland, but the sound of the mine carts is from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland as well. With the pandemic passing, maybe something to check out. And behold - the movie that invented PG-13. I remember as a kid the uproar that this movie was rated PG with the dark themes. There was a strong argument this should have been rated R, but got excused because of Spielberg, Lucas and for a better box office gross. But the argument was convincing enough that PG-13 was created as the middle ground. As for Spielberg, well, he took the heat, but he got a wife. He ended up marrying Kate Capshaw after this movie wrapped and they are married to this day. Of course, he still gets ribbed for it, most famously recently by the joke in Family Guy: “White lady only here because she humping director.” Let’s be honest, she’s not a bright shining light in this movie, over the top to say the least. Good news is she’s in other stuff and is better. Which brings me to... recommendations! Of course, everyone is going to say Goonies and I agree. But I’ll also plead a case for SpaceCamp. Capshaw is MUCH better in that movie, just bedeviled by terrible timing. More on that if the movie ever comes around. More than anything, just glad to have fun. Yeah, not Raiders good, but still a good ride and good to see you smile. More good to come in Last Crusade. I’ll tip my hand now, THAT one is my favorite. I won’t judge if you disagree, just say you have betrayed Shiva. Still Golden until next time.

Joe Blankenship

Yeah, Raiders is definitely the best one. Can't stand Kate Capshaw in this. She's certainly no Karen Allen.

Anonymous

Thanks for doing these super fun movies, it's a good break from the heavier stuff. I'd love to see you do a few classic movies maybe some from AFI top 100 maybe one a month or so,,,, please, Love your stuff. Keep up the good work.

Ortizmo2000

"They added a SHOOTING STAR to the FX" . Spielberg trademark. He does this in a few of his movies.

Ortizmo2000

You're RIGHT! That IS the guy from "The Shining"! (Capt. Blumburtt) I was today years old when I learned that. LOL

Ortizmo2000

My four-year-old son as I am prepping dinner for later one day in 2016: Him: Daddy? Me: Yeah? Him: I want snakes fo dinna. Come to find out later he just watched the entire dinner scene with his mom.

Next week should be really good; Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is MY personal favorite of the saga. Hey Nat, since you're really into archeology and space flicks, have you ever seen the original Stargate - not the TV series, but the 1995 movie that started it all (starring Kurt Russell). That might be a movie you want to check out, and maybe bring all of us along for the ride.

Yani Dodge

Hey Natalie! While I know the story I hadn't actually watched the movie before so that was fun! Shorty's definitely my favorite character in this one, maybe even before Indy :P Can't wait for the next reaction! Stay golden

Anonymous

So the thing about Temple of Doom is.. George Lucas was getting divorced. Star Wars was over and he was in a dark place, so Lucas developed this movie, in which among other delights a man has his beating heart ripped out and the hero loses his mind. Really subtle metaphors. Spielberg recalls this movie as a favour to his good friend, and an opportunity to work on craft. He was separated from own his wife as well, and reckon’d both he and George could use a win. The resulting film is dark and weird and heckin intense!

Dan Careaga

While this is definitely my least favorite of three films I very much love (there is no fourth film, right? They're filming that later this year I believe lol) I have to say I really like that it gives us a look and an earlier Indy. This Indy is obsessed with "fortune and glory". He is very much like Rene Belloq from Raiders. The events of this film change him into the man we meet in Raiders. A more serious, principled man who is still in the grey area but working for good. Indy seeing the stones actually having real power gives him the first spark of a kind of faith in more than the material. This faith grows as the films progress. It's a small thing but I like that they thought of it. As always Nat, great reaction and so much fun to hang out and watching with you.

REDR58

I don’t understand all the Kate Capshaw hate. She does an excellent job of being extraordinarily annoying and obnoxious!

REDR58

The entire trilogy is awash in mysticism and supernatural elements. Whether it’s the power of the ark burning off the swastika from the crate in Raiders or the literally immortality of The Last Crusade, magic abounds in these films. Indiana Jones is basically a superhero.

Thomas Malley

I believe it was a two punch thing that invented the PG-13 rating: Temple Of Doom, and Gremlins ... and that opening is what gives me faith that Spielberg's West Side Story is gonna be great.

Thomas Malley

And he ended up marrying Kate Capshaw later. I think the romance started on this movie.

Ron K

Cracked me up how Nat spent half the movie complimenting the decision to show off Fords upper body and then she yells, "Did we have to put her in a crop top?!" LOL!

Jayson Phillips

Kate Capshaw is Steven Spielberg's wife. Kahli is the god of evil and Shiva is a blue man god.

RebRox65

Just a thought, to continue the theme of these adventure type movies, how about ROMANCING THE STONE or JEWEL OF THE NILE and THE GOLDEN CHILD or even the TOME RAIDER movies.

Ian

So good to see Nat smiling and having fun great way to end the week that was so good, the movie is kinda silly but so much fun 😀 apart from the kid, the monkey brains and the mine carts I'd forgotten everything else so was great watching it again with nattie 🙂 fried like a French fry in a basket 😂 😂 that was so funny Nat says the funniest things and her drum roll was epic, thanks nattie for another week of content ending on a high and giving us some good laughs along the way 💛

Cripkie

Im no zoologist but they look like fruit bats to me. Here in Australia we cal them flying foxes.

Cripkie

ha, reminds me of my nans scottish cuisine she used to make us eat as kids. At least she cooked the brains tho and it was lamb not monkey.

Cripkie

I think everyone has a hatred for bugs tho it just manifests differently in different people. When I see them my instinct is to smoosh.

Anonymous

Loving these videos so much. If you're doing Natmares again this October, you should definitely consider this one Jeff Daniels movie from the early Nineties. It's called Arachnophobia.

Cripkie

I think i know why us humans like elephants so much. All the intellect without the language to muddle things up. Pure thought expression.

Cripkie

Oh i loved last crusade, but i have father issues.

Anonymous

gonna watch this tonight. will you react to Last Crusade too?

Wizzle

Very enjoyable reaction video! The last time I saw the Indiana Jones movies I was a kid as well so it felt very nostalgic to rewatch them. If you liked Alien and Aliens I would recommend you reacting to the original Predator from 1987. It's similiar to Alien and Aliens but better imo. :)

Kevin Mowery

This got me in a mood to watch a bunch of similar movies, so I might spend the rest of the day watching The Shadow (1994, on HBO Max), The Phantom (1996, on Amazon Prime), and The Rocketeer (1991, on Disney+). I know other reactors aren't reacting to those movies, so reacting to them might be bad SEO, but man I love those films.

Anonymous

Good times. The weird, dark themes and the silly moments made it a much less serious movie than the previous. But we loved it as kids. Fun fact: Mythbusters did an episode testing the life raft parachute idea and it was a bust, however landing on a snow slope did work with only minor injury.

RebRox65

Omg! This was a great watch along with you, my favourite bit was your reaction to the bugs!! 🤣🤣🤣

Ortizmo2000

Sadly even Karen Allen is no Karen Allen anymore. But yeah, the future Mrs. Spielberg......oy.

PaulChristopher

Kate Capshaw was married to Spielberg at the time. That's why she was in the movie.

Opti_Frog

Basejumping the Raft never was the Nuke the Fridge of the 80s, though it should have been. Anyone complaining about the fridge should complain as much about the raft, imo. 😂

So I'm sure a dozen people have mentioned this, but those were not "giant vampire bats" because there is no such thing. Real vampire bats are found in Central America and are tiny, the size of mice. They do not attack humans, they prefer cows and other larger, less active mammals, and they are noctural. Those were flying foxes, one of the largest bat subspecies. They are fruit eaters. The idea of "giant vampire bats" is pure Pulp Fiction, a trope of the "jungle adventure" genre this movie is rooted in. Also, pythons that small are no real danger to humans. Realistically, unless you're a small child, there are no constrictors that are a serious threat to humans. As for Willie Scott, I don't think she's dumb. She's just Wrong Genre Savvy. Willie is a small-town girl from the middle of nowhere in the middle of the Great Depression, and she's VERY skilled at using the talents God gave her to get the life of material comfort and safety she wants. You could put Willie in a sackcloth dress and drop her off in the middle of any city and within two weeks she'd have a steady job in the entertainment industry, a powerful, rich sugar daddy, and be on top of the world. And then she meets Indiana Jones and ends up in the one place she can't thrive: the wilderness. Also, Shiva is the creator diety in the Hindu religion. Kali is the goddess of death and other stuff. The Thugee were real, and were a religious cult that engage in assassinations and murder, but this movie plays very fast and loose with historical accuracy. After watching it you don't actually know anything more about Hindu, India or the Thugee, you just know wrong things. Indiana Jones is not educational.

Eric Bogerd

Kate Capshaw was (is?) Mrs. Steven Spielberg, the main reason she got the part and that the part even existed. Thankfully, she does get better by the end of the movie, but totally with you at the beginning where it was like, 'Why are you bringing this strange, annoying woman along?' Why wouldn't she just stay in Shanghai, the place where she is a star and goes to parties. Really looking forward to Last Crusade, it edges out Raiders as my favorite (although it's close).

Anonymous

Also, fun fact: The actor who plays the giant brute of a guard, who gets killed in the rock crusher, is the same actor who played the giant German guard who fought Indy under the airplane and was killed by the propellers in Raiders.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Aw man, this is one of those times I really miss my DVD collection, I had all three of these and so much more. My Ex who coincidentally is also named Natalie (well now she goes by Natalia because it sounds more EXotic 😆) still has custody of them, we parted on good terms but I never did get my DVDs back😭. I rented Raiders to watch with Nat but my entertainment budget is a little tight at that moment so I'm gonna have to skip this one for now, I'm definitely not missing Last Crusade though, that's my favorite of the franchise.

Anonymous

When she finishes all three, binge them on Paramount plus free trial

Kristine Friling

Also one note that I thought was funny, when they were showing the plane flying from shanghai with the map showing the route. They showed the plane flying over the Great Wall of China which borders Mongolia in the north. They were flying too far in the south. Just thought it was funny. :)
