You have seen it and you have grown tougher cause of it. its quite a ride since i first saw you on yt with about 6k followers. be proud of yourself.

JediLounger

I remember when the show first started and I was reading a post on the blog of the author who wrote the books (George RR Martin). One of the responses said: "Uh-ho....if these new fans are getting upset about Lady being killed after attacking Joffrey, what are they going to do when they find out about....everything else?" Now you begin to find out about everything else Natalie. It's gonna be rough. Edit: Also, I am pleased to see the Game of Thrones effect on your subscriber base. You are blowing up. Enjoy it!

Darryl Low

Really been looking forward to watching these last 2 Season 1 episodes with you Nat, but don't go straining your eyes. Look after yourself. We're all behind you. This one definitely had you absorbed and that ending just comes at you, and you can't stop it. Thanks as always and take care Nat 💛

Randee Carreno

Downloading the episode to watch later this evening. 😊 I've enjoyed this first season, and looking forward to season finale. And I've finally finished watching your YouTube reaction video for the first four episodes. Loved how that was put together. Looking forward to watching this episode along with your reaction tonight. 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

ISeeTrees ofGreen

This is my third time rewatching the series and Im really excited to see your reactions as everything progresses! The last two episodes of every season are typically huge events if you didn’t already know.

Anonymous

Thanks for skipping the recap :) I'm watching via Amazon Prime and it's way easier to synch up. Also: Dig the style ;)

Steve J

Been looking forward to it. IMO this is the episode that put GOT on the watercooler map. For the recap commentary, I think it's good not because we need the actual plot update (most of us have probably already seen the show) but I think they're good because we get some random off the cuff reactions that can be pretty funny since you've seen it too and are just killing time.

Julien Grenier

The guy at the end is named Yoren, he is affiliated to the Night Watch and is here to "recruit" (aka take prisoners and orphans) people for the Night Watch and he takes (aka saves) Gendry from Cersei to the Night Watch. Knowing this, Ned ask him to take Arya with him out of the city and take her back to Winterfell which is on the road to Castleblack.

Ian

So excited for this reaction going to be a long 2hrs before I can watch 😉 don't mind waiting though its going to be epic 💛

BNJ

FYI, Jorah Mormont is the guy that's with Daenerys, he's the Lord Commander of the Nights Watch son, that's who he was talking to Jon about.

Jeff Slocum

I am downloading this now. Can not wait to see you watch it.

Luis Torrefranca

David Bradley (Lord Walder Frey) - indeed Filch and also appeared in the Cornetto trilogy. So good at grumpy!

Calo Grsf

Thank you Nat! But first of all, take care of you, your health is a priority, it's important! Then, your glass suits you really well, I like them! 😄 Finally, your reactions are always epic haha! You gave me a twinge of sadness at the end 😭 And that's why you're incredible, you give more emotions than the show haha I'm excited for the rest of the serie! And don't forget, Stay Golden as always and Be Safe!

Valar Dohaeris

Sorry to hear about your headaches. I would suggest you visiting a Doctor about your neck pains, since some times neck pain ends in headache. Also, maybe use a chair with neck support? I really hope you get better.

Anonymous

I think the recap and intro are a great 4 minutes for her to muse and share additional thoughts after having the incidents simmer a bit. I'm surprised she hasn't used the intro to make predictions or musings since nothing's actually happening.

Luis Torrefranca

Re: Flesh wound Insufficiently treated wounds and infection can become dangerous things. If the wound is deep enough, infection gets into the larger blood vessels and spreads through the body faster. The U.S. Civil War, is an example of this.

Starromania72

Also, Pres James A Garfield - shot by a would-be assassin, killed by post-operative infection; or more GoT-era, King Richard I the Lionheart shot in the shoulder by a crossbow bolt, killed by the gangrene over a week later. Although, thankfully, at least no one on GoT dies from dysentery.

Troy B.

Yes, what others have said, take care of your eyes! They're the only ones you've got. Also I've been low-key jealous of that fireplace since you started recording in this new location, but I'm glad you still find time to record these for us in between skiing or covert ops or whatever it is you do when not entertaining us.

Matt O'Keefe

You didn't do too bad Natalie this episode. I hope you feel better.

Martin Firth

I personally get headaches from screens because of the distance, not the blue light. I can prevent them by going outside every hour to reset my vision, or working by a window I can look out of.

JediLounger

Just finished the episode with you. It’s a brutal end for sure. Eddard Stark was the primary character of the first book, so it was quite the shock for me when the book ended with his death. When I first read the books back in 1999-2001 they were popular, but nothing like they would be later.

Jeff Slocum

So here are some of the things I thought when first reading this in the books. 1) they did an excellent job recreating this from the books. 2) Besides his daughters seeing this the fact that Ned who is/was a man of honor his whole life to give up his honor in order to save not his life but those of his daughters and still die was brutal. 3) The man that grabbed Aria was the man from the Nights Watch who had some to ask for more men. He was the one that told Ned he was there to talk about his brother and cleared the room and then told him about Cat taking the Imp. Feel free to delete if you think I have said to much

Alan Kobb

By the Old Gods and the New, NO SPOILERS! The Lord Commander of the Night's Watch is Jeor Mormont, formerly Lord of Bear Island in the North. His son, who disgraced his house is Jorah Mormont. You know him well because he has been traveling with Daenerys. The sword Longclaw that Lord Mormont gave to Jon isn't just a treasured family heirloom, it is one of the rarest things in the world. It is made from Valyrian Steel. In this time, there are less than a dozen Valyrian Steel swords known to exist in Westeros. Valyrian Steel can no longer be made because the skills that it took to craft it were lost hundreds of years ago. It is very strong and light and keeps a sharp edge forever. Since the sign of House Mormont is a bear, it used to have a pommel shaped like a bear head, but Lord Mormont had a new pommel made in the shape of a direwolf head for House Stark, even though Jon isn't technically part of House Stark. When Maester Aemon's older brother died, he was next in line for the throne, but he had already taken an oath as a maester, so he refused, and his younger brother Aegon V became king. He joined the Night's Watch so that his supporters would not be inclined to insurrection to put him on the throne. To put himself out of reach. The man is Yoren, a brother of the Night's Watch. He left Castle Black traveling with Tyrion on his way to King's Landing looking for recruits. He was there when Tyrion was kidnapped, so he went at once to tell Ned. He was still in King's Landing gathering his recruits when Ned was put to the sword. Ned saw Arya on the Statue of King Baylor the Blessed and said "Baylor" to Yorin, letting him know that Arya was on the statue and he should protect her.

Troy B.

Also, DANG this episode still guts me, even knowing how it plays out.

Paul C

You should have tissues ready, as in this show there is plenty of death, and as you saw with Ned, no character is safe. Being that it is a time of military struggle, the deaths come from war, betrayals, assassinations, etc. The one I found most gut wrenching was (I think) the only one in the entire show that was from natural causes.

Ian

Sorry to hear you are getting headaches Nat and neck issues by the look of things, blue light filters might help a little but I'm not sure Google probably has some ideas. Your reaction to this eps was pretty much how it was for most of us i didn't want to carry on with the series after this episode and I stepped away for a few weeks then watched eps 10 and started the books right after needless to say I was glad I didn't give up on the show, the books are fantastic btw 😉💛

Derik Knutson

You're so mad at the one guy that wanted to keep the witch away from Drogo. They all should have listened to him.

Ben Wheeler

Robb is my personal favorite Stark. This episode displayed his intelligence and gift for military intelligence

Anonymous

Thanks for an excellent reaction, as usual. i do enjoy these very much and IMO, the recaps are not needed and would okay if they are omitted. Hope you headaches clear up! I am a glasses wearer and have to actually use two pair (distance and reading - hate/will not wear bifocals) - I am all too aware of headache from eye strain.

John Burns Burnsey

Cersei isn't just the one who raised Joffrey. He saw Robert act as a King, and that wasn't a great Dad.

john collins

I love your reactions to this show but i wish you never had any spoilers for this show but i guess it was impossible to not hear something with how huge it was haha maybe try forgetting what you saw and who you think lives until the end or even past the next episode because i think there are still plenty of things that will surprise you

Danishprince

This reaction was brutal and got me so emotional!

Lisa Tosti

The Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who gave Jon the sword is Commander Mormont. He mentioned his son Jorah who dishonored the family and left and you said "I wonder what happened to him". You already know a Jorah ;-)

Byron

Good gravy mother of AuJus, Why don’t you like yourself in glasses??? They look great on you. Note excuse me while I watch the episode.

Garren Haskell

Casual Nat in awesome glasses makes me feel even more like I'm hanging out with a friend on a couch watching a good show. I love it.

Mike LL

You are correct that you have met Joryn before. You saw him up at the Wall and you saw him in Kings Landing when he brought news to Ned about Catelyn and Tyrion. He was sent South to bring a fresh batch of Night's Watch "recruits" from the dungeons of Kings Landing.

Baron

Valyrian Steel is very rare I think at this point we have only seen two other Valyrian Steel items the dagger and Ice the great sword that belongs to house Stark, you see it in the first episode its the sword he uses to execute the deserter. I don't know if Nat or you noticed that Ned's own great sword is what was used at the end of this episode. Also this was spelled out more in the books I think the reason the pommel was replaced was because the sword was damaged in the fire after killing the white walker who was attacking Mormont in his chambers, they didn't really mention that fact in the tv show, but I remember that from the book. It needed to be repaired and he choose to honor the Stark family because he wanted to give it to Jon Snow.

Jon Dub

Joffrey, unfortunately inherited Roberts Hedonism, and Cersei's spitefulness and cruelty. Hedonists are constantly in pursuit of pleasure. Robert took pleasure in sex and booze, Joffrey takes pleasure in sadism.

Thomas Yanez

Saving this one until the last episode is ready, too.

Joe Blankenship

For me, the show starts to get really good after Ned dies. This episode ends on a bummer, but the next one will pick you right back up.

Anonymous

My Blu-ray has the episode without the recap, so I prefer these reactions to start at the HBO logo. But it's also no big deal to synchronize the footage after the recap.

John Graziano

One final insult that was made clear in the books but not in the show was they used Ned's own sword - named "Ice" - to kill him. It was the same greatsword Ned used to execute the Night's Watch deserter in Episode 1, and it's also made of Valyrian Steel.

Anonymous

Omitting the recap is fine. No issues with that. Powerful reaction. I feel that I can be pretty emotional but I feel stoic by comparison. Keep em’ coming. Good stuff, this series is a rollercoaster of emotions. Happier episodes will come. As happy as living in Westeros can be lol 🤷🏼‍♂️

The episode that changed television.

Anonymous

One thing I caught in this re-watch which I hadn't noticed before was Maester Aemon asked Jon what Ned would do if he had to pick between Love and Honor. Ned at the end picked just like the Maester said in "confessing" to save his daughters instead of the "right" thing like Jon thought. Fun little bit of foreshadowing there.

Anonymous

Poor Sean Bean. The glasses look good!

Reid Ellis

I vote for no recap - my copy doesn't have it, so if it's there, it's harder to sync up.

Ethan Plumer

Love is the death of duty. The only time Lord Stark forgot his honor became his last act. Such a tragic story.

Misty Crom

I guess as you went right on to watching episode 10, so you've seen it by now, you'll likely get this, but yeah... Qotho (the Dothraki who wanted to kill the 'witch') - was kinda right... she was killing Khal Drogo. Pretty much made sure his wound got infected and killed him rather than healed. Also, one thing, I think you maybe forgot; there were 2 Lannister armies. Rob's plan, on learning about the spy knowing their number (though, pretty sure Rob told him they had 5k more than they did have), so he could make Tywin assume they'd be going for him, and sent 2k to Tywin's camp as a diversion whilst attacking Jamie's army, catching them unaware, and winning. Hence the 'sending 2 thousand men to their deaths'. Tywin did say that Rob was 'with his other 18000 men' when Tyrion asked where Rob was. Might have been more explained in episode 10 anyways, I don't recall, but for if not.

BJ Stephens

Sorry to hear about your pains Nat. All I can say is that if you need to take a break from the reactions for a little while, do it! Everyone needs to take breaks/vacation from work now and then. IMO your well being is more important than our entertainment.

Anonymous

wear glasses if you want. Tell anyone who comments negatively to take a flying leap! Sorry to hear about the eye strain.

Coojw

Mormont's son Jorrah who dishonored their house, thats the same Jorrah with Daenerys

Opti_Frog

Here it is. After Eddard's death (well, after the first season) i didn't watch any more GOT for several years. Without Ned the show was just not very appealing to me as he was the only main i really related to. Eventually i watched all of it, enjoying it and hating it, and facepalming my way through the final years. GOT was never again as compelling as the first season.

Anonymous

These cannot be posted fast enough Nat. Hurry up! :)

Kevin Mowery

Don't worry about it the glasses. Eye strain is an absolute killer. I've replaced all my curtains, bought room divider screens, and gotten new glasses, and I still might be looking at rearranging the entire apartment to get all of my screens away from the glare from windows. Plus, hey, glasses are cool.

Anonymous

I know it doesn't help really. But Ned died because he was a good man, and nothing else. And the world of Game of Thrones does not take kindly to the pure hearted or noble with good intentions, rarely ever. :( He knew too much, was too loyal and kind. So he died by the hands of a ruthless boy

Aaron Taft

Sweety we all wear Glasses. Your fine.

Anonymous

First watch since joining patreon and you know what, the turtleneck, glasses and giant headphones have a pretty cool 70's vibe.

Ellis Hugh

Wanted to toss in for Natalie that the 'Old Bear' Mormont, the leader of the Night's Watch is the father of Jorah Mormont, the knight in exile who serves Dany... as of the beginning of Episode 9 it seemed like she had not yet made that connection.

Ilsuk Yang

You know what makes this worse? Ned was killed with his own sword! The ultimate disrespect! The guy Ned talked to at the end is Yoren, a member of the night's watch (he's the one who told Ned about his wife kidnapping Tyrion). Anyways, great reaction as always, Nat! I pretty much had the same reactions you did the first time I watched this!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Wow, I've seen every episode of this show multiple times but honestly this is the first time I noticed at the end that Lord Varys literally races to plead with Joffrey not to execute Ned.

Aaron Taft

Can ya just wear the Glass Frames? If ya are worried about the reflection. Girls are always extremely cute in Glasses

Laura Thornley

I know this was 3 months ago, but... You want to know the worst bit about Tyrion's story? Its expanded upon in the books later on. Tywin made Jaime lie to Tyrion about Tysha. She wasn't a whore at all - the whole situation was real, and so was the love between them. He just didn't want his son being married to a lowborn, so to teach him a lesson he scarred him for life and had his wife raped in front of him.

Laura Thornley

Oh, and in the books Tyrion isn't instantly knocked out - he actually does 'reasonably well' in the battle (mostly by luck).

Shawn E Mercado

I kinda think it works better how it is in the show. I don't think it helps the narrative to make Tywin into a more plainly dislikable liar rather than just, a hardened man who is teaching valuable lessons to his children but in an awful and misguided way.

Tommy Ross

This is my seventh or eighth rewatch, and I JUST fully grasped the awfulness of those 2,000 men being purposely sacrificed. War always includes difficult decisions, or so I've read, but... yeah that's a rough thing to know Robb did. Even if he did have words of remorse afterward. Remorse is a powerful thing, but 2,000 is a fucking massive number.
