So glad you enjoyed it!

Joe Jeffords

It's a masterpiece. Looking forward to the rewatch. Timothy Dalton kills it in this role.

What a fun week!

Danishprince

This has been an insane week for Nat reactions and we are all so greatful <3 - This is one of my favourite movies and I'm so excited to watch it with you :D

Darryl Low

The hits just keep on coming on the Nattie G train this week. Thank you 💛 By posting Hot Fuzz, and Mando Sn2 finale on the same night, you have started The Golden Triangle. Hot Fuzz is directed by Edgar Wright, and also has an appearance by Joe Cornish. Mando Sn2 Finale is directed by Peyton Reed. Your next MCU movie Ant-Man is directed by Peyton Reed, and co-written by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish. Spooky eh? 😮 The old-fashioned slang name for the police in the UK is The Fuzz, and a fete is a fundraiser. Church fetes are usually to raise money to do building repairs. A fine score by David Arnold, who also did the music for Casino Royale and 4 other Bonds. And the name Nick Angel came from the namesake music supervisor on this film, and Shaun. Great reaction Nat. You definitely had fun with this movie.

JediLounger

Hell Yes. I hope you got something from the shop before watching.

Doug Willour

Glad you enjoyed this. It's a great movie. As I'm sure others will point out, the Yarp guy is The Hound, aka Sandor Cleland in Game of Thrones. Also, while it didn't win the poll, definitely keep Tucker and Dale Vs Evil towards the top of your consideration list. Easily my favorite movie with Alan Tudyk.

Tiger Chu

people might have done this already, but what the heck. The santa that stabbed nick in the beginning is played by Peter Jackson. Nicks girlfriend is played by Cate Blanchett and the yarp guy is the hound from Game of Thrones.

Tiger Chu

Really glad you enjoyed it :D

Luis Torrefranca

Glad you covered this one. It's for the greater good.

Randee Carreno

Getting this video downloaded to watch tonight. 😊 I've never seen this movie, but I have heard how funny it is. I can't wait to watch it. Been loving the extra content. Whether it's a Marvel movie, a new reaction to an episode of "Game of Thrones", or another movie reaction. I'm loving it! Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

If you like Simon Pegg, I strongly recommend the movie "Paul." Written by and starring Simon Pegg. It is his homage to Sci-fi. and references most of the most popular Sci-fi films and TV series. To understand the primary references in the movie I suggest you watch "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Star Wars Return of the Jedi", and "Aliens."

Quarty

Original Movie: Avengers: Hot Fuzz :) :) Looking forward to watching this one!!

Luis Torrefranca

Oh... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Have you seen that/reviewed that, yet?

Anonymous

Best movie of the trilogy in my opinion.

Luis Torrefranca

... so, about that fence jumping scene.

Ian

getting a cornetto before watching this one :)

Andrew Dickinson

The name of the village "Stamford" is the code names for all police training facilities.

Andrew Dickinson

You need to see the extras, and the bloopers.. the police that where assigned to help make the film thought it was serious. the Santa at the start is Peter Jackson, his ex is Cate Blanchett.

Justin Feldman

Timothy Dalton is fantastic in this film. I hope he gets the opportunity to play more villain roles in the future

Tiger Chu

Good to watch again cause there will be some things you'll miss the first time watching

Anonymous

Really satisfying to watch Nat go from hating Nick Frost's character in "Shaun" to being so worried that Danny was going to die at the end of this film.

James Hadden

That was certainly the case for me, but I have to say I was hugely impressed with how much Natalie picked up on for a first time watching

Ian

so glad you had such a good time watching this movie your reactions are always wonderful and this one didnt disappoint :) bad boys 2 and point break next ? for the greater good

Ian Forbes

So much fun, this is one of my favorite comedies. Can’t wait for The World’s End. And one item you had asked about was what was relevant about the kid, Aaron A Aaronson. It was a callback to earlier when the Andys were asking if they needed to start questioning everyone in town starting with Aaron A Aaronson; at that time it sounded like they were being hyperbolic but it was true ... just like their comment about everyone and farmer’s moms having guns ... which led to the farmer’s mom shooting at Sgt. Angel when he came back to town and got his horse.

Ian Forbes

Also highly recommend the TV series Spaced (2 season British show Wright directed starring Pegg and also featuring Nick Frost). And I feel like I mentioned before but also recommend Scott Pilgrim vs the World and Baby Driver. The way Wright incorporates writing, editing, cinematography, and music into all his work is amazing.

Starromania72

Besides Bill Nighy, the other Shaun of the Dead alumni included Martin Freeman, as part of the doppelganger survivor group, and the younger detective, Rafe Spall, who played Shaun's snotty underling at the appliance store. Also, when Danny's going through the DVDs at the supermarket, there's a copy of Shaun of the Dead in the stand (on special).

Starromania72

He was pretty good in Dr Who as a megalomaniacal Timelord. And now that Nat's started watching the Bond movies, intrigued to see either of TD's two outings.

Anonymous

Hot fuzz is a great film. New to this patreon business. I recommend galaxy quest if you haven't seen it. Its not British but it does have alan rickman in it. Nats reactions are the best!

Matthew Periolat

Yeah, this was so much better than Shaun of the Dead! Shaun was entertaining, but this felt more humorous. Movie knowledge helps with references to Point Break, Chinatown and the running stance from Terminator 2, but hopefully someday those flicks will come. Yarp. Biggest compliment I got? Might buy this movie someday. On my to get list thanks to Nat along with The Thing. Thanks for the entertainment! Oh and yes, swans actually are evil bastards.

Troy B.

I'd seen this before, but there was so much I had missed the first time, and some things I'd forgotten this time. Like Nat, I was like "Well, obviously Skinner can't be the villain," but he totally was, just not the *only* villain. (I remembered that it was the town watch, but had forgotten he was on it.)

Calo Grsf

Yeah Hot Fuzz! What a full week haha Thank you for spoiling us, Nat you're the best! 😁 Stay Golden!

Opti_Frog

This reaction really made my evening. I wouldn't call neither Shaun or Hot Fuzz parodies. They're more like homages, and Hot Fuzz deals with quite a few genres. Sleepy village police procedure drama, big action and folk horror. They even cast Edward Woodward - the lead in The Wicker Man (1973), the best and most influential folk horror ever made and Nat should react to it - as the CCTV-watching Tom Weaver.

wroot

Well, i think World's End is better to watch last. Because, you know, it is the world's END :)

Danishprince

I can't recall another reaction where you have seemed to enjoy yourself this much Nattie - One of your absolute best so far! :D

Simon hobdell

Hot Fuzz is filmed in Wells in Somerset (England’s smallest City) and the two lady judges for the best town award are Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s mums.

Kevin Mowery

After The World's End, for more of Edgar Wright I really recommend Baby Driver. It's really a masterpiece of using music as part of the storytelling.

Sean

It's been years since I've seen this. That ridiculous firefight at the end has always been with me.

Sean

I forgot about the swan Aliens reference! 🤣

Ron K

Well I think we can all agree that there should be another poll with Point Break, Bad Boys 2 and a few others.

CardboardSpoon

Noticed you wondered why he doesn't carry a firearm, here in the UK Police don't actually get firearms unless their part of a Task Force, there aren't many guns here so there's no need for them among police unless a crime has been reported involving firearms.

Ken - Kendo161

worlds end is similar to sean of the dead. I think Paul is one of the best comedic padaody of alien/ area51 movies

Kelvin

World's end's the best of the trilogy IMO

Misty Crom

Right... First of all, Sandford is a real place, but you probably wouldn't want to stay there as its what the police and military call the unpopulated towns they use for training, often with live ammunition. Nicholas didn't tend to carry a gun as he's not American. The police here generally don't carry firearms. As for things being strange with it being set in the UK.. .well, now you know how we Brits feel watching all the buddy-cop action movies (which this is a ... let's say an homage to) set in the US. You're right about the Cornetto thing - and they're flavour-themed too. Sean of the Dead was Strawberry (red for the blood), Hot Fuzz is original (blue for the police) and World's End is mint choc chip (for science fiction). As a bit of an aside, the actor playing Michael (Yarp) is the same actor who plays The Hound in Game of Thrones. All the things Danny asked Nicholas if he'd done happened in the big long action bit at the end. Oh, and what's that about Capricorns? I'm a Capricorn!

Misty Crom

Also, amongst the call-back moments; when Angel first returned to Sandford, the farmer and his Mum were both 'packin' - just like Andy said in the pub.

Anonymous

Hey this was a big week, strong work yo! Edgar Wright is definitely a superstar; in addition to World's End, Scott Pilgrim and Baby Driver are also a great time. Cheers!

Anonymous

After The Worlds End, another fun Simon Peg comedy (win zero gore) is Run Fat Boy, Run!

Amos T Fairchild

This is the only one of the three I rewatch much.

Niklas

The swan at the end if such an "Aliens" moment. :D

Andy Crawley

I haven’t read through all the comments so I’m probably repeating here, but oh well: Edgar Wright is a master when it comes to editing and using sound and music in his films and tv work, although he’s not the credited editor he co-edits everything as he’s meticulous about the cuts. The place they filmed in isn’t called Sandford, they made that up for the film, but it’s actually Edgar Wright’s home town of Wells, in the county of Somerset in South West England (fun fact, it’s the UK’s smallest city, and is classed as a city because it has a cathedral). He grew up loving American action/buddy cop/crime movies, and always wanted to make a film like that, but transplanted to the countryside in England, as the mundanity of British life clashes so funnily with the action tropes and horrific deaths of Hollywood films. The cast are made up of both their friends who they’d worked with a lot already, like Bill Bailey, Stephen Merchant, Steve Coogan, Bill Nighy, Martin Freeman, British acting stalwarts like Timothy Dalton (played Bond) and Jim Broadbent (basically everything for 30 years, playing against type here as he’s normally the nice guy), and cult icons of action and horror over the years like Edward Woodward (The Wicker Man), Paul Freeman (Raiders Of the Lost Ark), Billie Whitelaw (The Omen), Stuart Wilson (No Escape, Lethal Weapon 3, The Rock). If you want a laugh, you should check out the outtakes and bloopers of this, as some of the improv and alternate line readings are so bloody funny. Also definitely think you should finish off the Cornetto Trilogy (Red for the blood in Shaun, Blue for the police in Hot Fuzz, Green for the Aliens/sci fi in Worlds End), Worlds End is the weakest of the three, but it’s actually quite funny and a good sci fi, and also quite dark, partly because it was written by Simon Pegg as a semi-autobiographical tale of his youth and because it addresses his battle with alcoholism and depression, which was at its peak around the time of Mission Impossible 3 and Hot Fuzz. His autobiography Nerd Do Well is a well worth a read too if you’re interested. Also I think you should at some point watch both series of Spaced that they all made together, it’s only 12 episodes in total, but so so funny, and you can see where the progression of Edgar Wrights style has come from, and there’s plenty of Star Wars jokes and references in it that you’ll get!

I'm so glad you liked it so much! I share your distate with zombie content, but Shaun is a masterpiece. The last of the Trilogy is good but dial down expectations from the 1st 2. It is very different and not _quite_ as brilliantly entertaining. I am sure you will LOVE the 2 seasons of SPACED with Simon and Nick (as well as more of Britain's finest comedy minds!) (It was good that you put the full length video on Youtube, i can watch along MUCH more easily that way! And it streams a lot smoother. Can be frustrating to get the 2 videos synced up, and one or the other buffers or craps out.)

swoop_13-37

It parodies alot of action and suspense/thriller movie tropes. So good..... The only reason you want to watch them in order is a few running gags.... Notably fences....

Also Sanford is the fictional town used in police examinations in England

What's really interesting to me, as a limey, is how much Natalie's reaction to this film contrasts inversely with the experience I and other "Shaun of the Dead"/"Spaced" fans had when it first came out. Because "Shaun" had come out of nowhere it became this hugely zeitgeisty pop culture hit, especially in Britain, being that rare thing: A cool low-budget Britcom. But consequently, expectation were through the ROOF when "Hot Fuzz" finally came out, and, though we liked it well enough, it inevitably felt like a little bit of a letdown. All the production diaries, all the exposure, just meant that it didn't have quite the same shine on it, and what movie could when the bar was raised so high in our minds. But that's what I like about seeing this reaction, because Natalie was spared all of that build-up, she actually had a far more satisfying time with it than I did when I first watched, she had no expectations or preconceived standards, and now she likes it better than "Shaun". Ultimately, I still feel that "Fuzz" lacks some of the streamlined balance of that first underdog film, it's a textbook case of everything getting bigger, and therefore a little saggy, out of all their success, but it was very nice to see Natalie being genuinely delighted by it.

This_Jedi_crafts

So glad I watched this here. I had no clue how much fun this movie would be. I just thought "Shaun of the Dead" put Simon Pegg on the map - but so happy to see he kept the work going before becoming a major US movie star with film franchises like Star Trek and the Mission Impossible series! Rock ON Simon Pegg!

Pokerpope

Lovely reaction - one point to clarify - British Police in general don't carry firearms no matter their rank - there are special response teams for that.

Tay Schumaker

You really need to see Baby Driver if you like Edgar Wright's style

Alan Kobb

That was fun! I'd never seen it, so it was fun seeing a new movie with Natalie keeping things lively! Don't be surprised that he doesn't have a gun. Actually, England is one of a few countries where police officers don't carry guns day-to-day. They will get weapons only if the situation requires it.

Andrew Dickinson

There was something wierd going on with that watchalong. I was watching via the Sky Movies (UK) version, an there was definitely a mismatch in the timings, as it seemed I had to pause my version for a second or two every minute to synch up again, any chance of getting the run time of the HBO version. It was so consistent that it wouldn't be a different cut?

Dan Careaga

What a great film, 2018 Best Actress Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman as Officer Doris Thatcher! and the Great Edward Woodward as NWA (Amazing reference!) head Tom Weaver really round out an incredible cast of some of the best actors in modern British cinema and theater. Edgar Wright really upped his game from Shaun, to me this film is a massive step up in every way from an already good film.

Michael G. Munz

I visited Wells (I'm from Seattle, USA) before I saw this, and upon watching it I shouted "HOLY CRAP, I'VE BEEN THERE!!"

Robert Avila

Loved it. Haven't seen it in a while and I really enjoyed this watch-a-long. It was so much fun. I remembered what happened, but enjoyed it more this time around. I was perfect because ItsaPrimate (who I'm following after you suggested him) just watched Shaun of the Dead. Looking forward to the next video.

Andrew T

Seeing Stephen Merchant in this movie (and consequently Natalie mentioning Ricky Gervais), I'm wondering if Gervais's show, "Derek," was ever recommended. I think with two short seasons, it'd be a great series to react to. Side note: tissues

Anonymous

Hi Natalie. Really enjoying your video . Another Simon Pegg and Nick Frost movie you could watch is Paul. They it made before World's End . Keep up the brilliant work .

Anonymous

Arguably my favourite movie ever, up there with the Truman Show.

John Burns Burnsey

Here's something about Hot Fuzz to help 'fill in the blanks' of some things you might have missed, while watching the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53l9OjI5h_I

Edward Olson

Sky Movies (UK) would be showing the movie in PAL format, which is 25 frames per second. Natalie was mostly likely watching in NTSC format, which is 24 frames per second. When a 25fps video is played on equipment that is expecting NTSC, it stretches it out 4% by playing at 24fps. I can't guarantee that this is the problem with your experience, but I have confirmed that this happens with other reactors.

Anonymous

I so hope you check out World's End (the last of the Cornetto Trilogy) as well as Baby Driver. Edgar Wright is a fantastic director, filling his work with TONS of subtle call backs and in jokes. I've seen Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, World's End, and Baby Driver more times than I can count, and I constantly see something new or find a deeper meaning in something I've seen before.

Lisa Tosti

I agree! Baby Driver was amazing!!! Also I've played Hocus Pocus by Focus for people for years because it's amazing and it wasn't until that movie that people freaked. I felt so happy in that moment

RocktSurgeon

If watching Point Break it’s got to be the original, the remake shouldn’t be acknowledged!

RocktSurgeon

So the Romeo And Juliet play they did was directly from the Baz Luhurman Romeo + Juliet version from the 90s. It’s super stylized like everything Baz does, the original dialog but a modern setting and in Verona (beach in California). Romeo and Juliet are very young DiCaprio and Claire Danes, and the song they ended the play with is from the soundtrack. It’s a fun, weird version though I haven’t seen it in many years.

Teyon Alexander

Cate Blanchett was Janine and I had no idea until like a year ago.
