"Roped me in" Boooo, bad pun ;)

Chris (darkwater)

This is one of my favourite Bond films. Actually the Daniel Craig run as a whole is a favourite. also.. I do have the items to make a martini. :)

Darryl Low

This reaction's going to leave us shaken, and stirred! The director Martin Campbell, as well as the Zorro movies which are definitely fun to watch, also directed Pierce Brosnan's first outing as 007, Goldeneye. Great reaction Nat. You definitely got involved, and got pulled into the world of Bond, and I look forward to watching your next adventure.

Bubba Fett

I recommend your next one be quantum of solace, while all are "related" that's pretty well a direct sequel to casino royale. Beyond that can proceed as you like.

Anonymous

The bomber 007 chased at the beginning? They hired the guy who *invented* freerunning. Sébastien Foucan. This movie made it prominent in the first place.

Anonymous

I never watched any of the bond movies so it'll be nice watching this reaction. Two birds with one stone and stuff :P

Tiger Chu

Great movie. Now do Hot Fuzz

BJ Stephens

Won't lie, kinda dissapointed this was the first Bond movie you've seen. To me it's not really that much of a Bond film, a little too serious. I prefer the classic bond with a bit of camp. Not that I blame you, you went with the votes.

Randee Carreno

This was a first time watching for me as well. I've only seen a couple of the 80s James Bond movies, and one of the Sean Connery(the first James Bond actor)movies. I do highly recommend "Knives Out" with Daniel Craig. I can't wait to see if you react to some more James Bond movies. 😊 Until the next video, Stay Golden! 💛

Anonymous

Another fun fact: With the car crash scene (after Vesper was taken), they set a new record for most flips in a car crash on film.

Jeremy Vickers

Can’t wait gonna watch this after I get out of work. Been waiting all week for this one!

Thomas Malley

That was a fun watch. It’s basically an origin story for bond. That’s why he didn’t have his shaken not stirred line. And also the only movie where he has a character arc. As far as I can recall.

Jeremy Vickers

Oh yeah You have to do knives out! That would be great.

Troy B.

I was originally one of the people who didn't think this was a good one to start with, but since you already knew a lot of the pop cultural tropes, it was fun to see you react to a Bond slightly different than what you might have expected. Future Bonds will be more stereotypical for the most part. I also think it's a good idea to space these apart, especially since they generally aren't tied together (even though they make a go of it with the Daniel Craig ones, but personally I found Quantum of Solace [his next foray] a bit of a slog.) Maybe just watch one of each actor, maybe going backwards from here. Brosnan (Goldeneye was good), then Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, then Sean Connery. (I suppose also George Lazenby if you've got the time, but I never cared for him and he only ever did it the one time.)

Anonymous

While this is a more modern movie it doesn’t have most of the Bond tropes because it was kind of a reboot of the character so a lot of that is still yet to be established. The story of Casino Royale is based on the first Bond novel that was released, so while it’s not the beginning of the movies this is the first Bond story that was told. The first movie Dr No with Sean Connery is a great introduction to the character as well, but I still think because Casino Royale is so much like the original novel it’s a great place to start. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Luis Torrefranca

Jump to around 1:31 for the nod to shaken/stirred.

Nicholas Hentges

Yeah quantum of Solace was not amazing to me personally, but my partner who hadn't watched any bond movies liked it better than casino royale, so there must be something for some people. It wasn't awful or anything, it was just like an epilogue to casino royale and it's strange for a bond movie to be SO connected to the previous entry. I liked it, just not as good as any of Craig's other ones. And you leave lazenby alone, he is a treasure! (Jk)

michael denny

love how bond tips the dealer $500,000 and the dealer's like "thanks."

This_Jedi_crafts

Again - loving watching Natalie watch these films! My fav line from her, watching, "Plug it IN, plug it IN!!" Hysterical!!

Paul C

Daniel Craig started out as one of the better Bonds. More serious (without the goofy Brosnan gadgets), cunning, and not afraid to throw down and straight up obliterate his opponent. However, with each following movie (except maybe Skyfall), it seemed like the villains got worse, and Daniel was less enthusiastic about being in the movie. And with the newest installment coming up of 007 No Time to Die... (a Mary Sue story), his status goes to just 7, as the 00's were neutered off. They could've had the decency and end things with Skyfall.

Kevin Mowery

The 00 status in the movies indicates he has a "license to kill" in the course of his duties. In the original novels, it was a designation that Bond was *willing* to kill in the course of his duties. (The original novels were crazy spy stuff, but grounded in the idea that Bond and the other agents of M.I.6 were basically middle-class civil servants.)

It Hurt A Lot

The eyeroll when Bond said "wouldn't you be naked" is the Lord of all Eyerolls. It is to eyerolls what Shadowfax is to horses

JSounds

Um the latter of that might be a spoiler? Be careful!

John

The dude with the glasses with one black lens is what someone with one eye wears when they need glasses for their other eye. It's easier than an eye patch and a monocle.

JediLounger

I m glad you liked your first Bond film Nat. While I agree that you should watch some more Bond, you may want to consider continuing with the Craig films eventually as there is a storyline for the films. Personally I like them all, though they have their ups and downs.

Anonymous

The last location in the movie is Villa La Gaeta, Lake Como Italy, its a hotel.

Uncle Phoenix

I was very surprised to see Sir Richard Branson @43:23 getting wanded at airport security.

Matthew Periolat

Oh, that was fun! I’ve honestly only seen two other Bonds (The Spy Who Loved Me and The Living Daylights), so this was a great start. Couple of things: as others have pointed out, this was a soft reboot/origin for Bond in the 2000s, so he wasn’t classic Bond yet. They were adding elements to the mythology throughout, probably why this won the poll. Yes, Mads Mikkelson was Galen Erso in Rogue One. He may pop up again in future projects, he’s in quite a bit. Langley is Langley, Virginia, headquarters for the CIA, the American counterpart for England’s MI6. I’m sure you’ve picked up by now, just couldn’t resist. That lake scene at the end was Lake Como in Italy and we’ve seen it before - used for the lake house scenes for Anakin and Padmé in Attack of the Clones. As to the future Bonds, Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger from the Connery era, The Man With the Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me from the Moore era, License to Kill from the Dalton duology, GoldenEye at least from Bronson and Skyfall if you want more Craig. I THINK they were trying to tell sort of a Bond origin arc in the Craigs, but results were mixed. And these have been your useless facts and information for this flick. Thank you, may we have another? Soon? 😁

Jayson Phillips

He just discovered the Martini shaken not stirred in this film, all the others its his fav drink.

Jayson Phillips

Dr. NO, and Moonraker are my fav ones.

Anakin Starkiller

When I saw this back in 2006 that chair scene and you know what scene I'm talking about. That scene had every guy in the theater moaning. I miss going to the theaters. And believe me that scene was much more intense on the big screen. But that scene was an example of how tough of a mother fucker Bond was.

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

I highly recommend skipping Quantum of Solace...it's quite dull. Skyfall however is excellent.

Shadowcat

Can you imagine getting tipped that much?? I'm torn between "I'd quit on the spot" and "I'd keep working for at least a little while longer cuz maybe more people would throw that kind of money at me." 😂 I know realistically, $500K isn't enough to retire on at the dealer's age, but you could quit your job and find ways to invest that money and that *could* be enough to live on without having to work. Seriously torn!

Dan Hughes

Great reaction Natalie! If I am not mistaken, all the Bond movies have a full song credit intro, that is another Bond movie signature. Please watch Dr. No eventually, it is the other introductory movie for the franchise in my opinion.

Thundarr100

I'm not as well versed on Texas Hold 'em Poker as I am with other styles, but I believe that there are three communal cards in the center of the table and each player gets two cards. Whichever player's two cards makes the best hand when combined with the three communal cards wins the pot. At least that's what I think the rules are. I'm more familiar with the older styles of poker. There's Five Card Stud (each player is dealt five cards and plays whatever they're dealt), Seven Card Stud (each player is dealt seven cards, chooses the best five, and then plays what they're dealt), and the version I am most familiar with Five Card Draw (each player is dealt five cards, discards the ones they don't want and draws fresh cards hoping to improve their hand). The lowest winning hand is a pair (two 2s, two 8s, two Kings, etc). The next best hand is Two Pair (two 2s & two 5s, two 9s & two Queens, etc). The next best is a Three Of A Kind (three 3s, three 6s, three Aces, etc). The next best is a Full House, which is a Pair + a Three Of A Kind (two Aces & three Kings for example). The next best hand is a Straight, which is a run of five sequential numbers, but not all of the same suit (a 6 of Hearts, 7 of Clubs, 8 & 9 of Spades, and a 10 of Diamonds for example). The next best hand is a Flush, which is all five cards of the same suit but not all sequential numbers (2, 4, 6, 8, and King of Clubs for example). The next best hand is a Four Of A Kind, which should be pretty self explanatory (four 4s, four 6s, four Kings, etc). The next best hand is a Straight Flush, which is a sequential run of five cards, all in the same suit (a 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of Spades for example). And finally there is The Royal Flush, which is a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace, all of the same suit. Nothing beats a Royal Flush, unless you are playing Jokers Wild in which case a Five Of A Kind would be the only hand capable of beating a Royal Flush (that would be a Four Of A Kind + The Joker/Wild Card). Wow that's a lot of info. But I hope that you better understand the game of poker now (which might come in handy if you ever decide to react to the Kenny Rogers "Gambler" movies).

This movie is based on the first book and is the most faithful to the source material of all the Bond Films. A lot of the Bond tropes have been in the movies since the first ones in the 60's but this movie does a great job of giving them all a little backstory. The third Daniel Craig Bond film, Skyfall is also notable for bringing Bond up to the point in time that we had seen the character in previous films. One cool fact about Casino Royale, the book, is that throughout the book he does use aliases instead of his actual name. During his torture, Le Chiffre makes a large cut across Bond's face that leaves a noticeable scar. The scar identifies him as James Bond and that is why after Casino Royale he always uses his real name and not aliases.

Anonymous

Martin Campbell directed my two favorite Bond films. This one and Goldeneye. Zorro would also be a really fun watch.

Anonymous

Something you can't see from the movies is what Bond used to be in culture. There's ad placement and then there's ad placement. This was the latter. Like the movie version of the Superbowl. It was a big thing to have Bond wearing your watch, your suit, driving your car. They all start with an opener then Bond shoots the camera and then the funky music video (There might be an exception I'm forgetting). Two of these songs have won Oscars. Yep, Bond used to be a bigger deal. Exotic locations, beautiful women, gadgets (less so for Craig), some wild villians and intrigue. But the Cold War ended and his misogyny doesn't play quite as well any more. He also didn't have to contend with Bournes and Wicks. I still enjoy most of these though. I like the 1 or 2 movies per actor idea. Good place for a poll each time if you do. And lol, I forgot about the Branson cameo at Miami airport security.

Chris Gronau

You have a pretty good description of poker, but you have a slight error in the order of winning hands. A full house will beat either a straight or a flush (but not a straight flush, as shown in the movie....

Chris Gronau

Great reaction, as usual, Nat. If you're going to do another Bond movie someday, I would suggest Skyfall. It's the third Daniel Craig Bond movie, and arguably the best of them all. While Quantum of Solace is a direct sequel to Casino Royale, it's not a very good movie. The spoiler-free version of why it fails is because it came out right after the movie The Bourne Identity. The Bourne Identity used a hand-held camera for all the action sequences. The shaking of the image adds a sense of immediacy to the action scenes, which works very well in that movie. The Bond producers decided to copy this "shaky-cam" technique for Quantum of Solace. Unfortunately, all they did was turn Quantum of Solace into a case study on how "shaky-cam" can ruin a movie.....

warcrimes

Although I love Firefly/Serenity and really enjoyed revisiting the series after all these years(it's why I joined), this is my favorite reaction of yours. Casino Royale is a great flick. Also, Skyfall is the best Bond movie, by far, as it deconstructs the entire genre. A must-see at some point. Mr. Gronau's post mentioned The Bourne Identity. I hope that's on your list, you'll love it.

Ooo! I can't wait to see what your surprise Valentine's Video will be!

Endling_king

not sure if anyone else mentioned this, but Daniel Craig's portrayal of James Bond was much more rough and raw compared to earlier Bond movies, usually Bond is shown as smooth and tactful. it would make sense though since he was only granted 00 status at the beginning of the movie, so hes going to have to go through plenty of growing pains before he becomes the Bond of earlier films. which honestly is a refreshing look at the character. and as for that torture scene with the chair, i don't think Bond is to worried about ever having kids. but still...... just thinking back to that scene makes me cringe in pain.

Anonymous

I'd argue rather vehemently Goldeneye is the best Bond movie, not Skyfall, and personally contend Casino Royale is the best single "movie" movie of the franchise. I like Skyfall a lot, but don't even believe it's even the best movie Craig's done (behind Casino Royale, but definitely ahead of the other two) and have it around 5th for the franchise as a whole I think. Goldeneye, Casino Royale, From Russia With Love, The Spy Who Loved Me, and then Skyfall would I think be my list

Chief

There is a lot of traditional Bond mythos to become familiar with. The long opening sequence with the gun barrel view, full theme song, etc, has become a hallmark of Bond films. It's become a news moment when the 'new Bond theme song' is released. As well, the '007' has multiple meanings, depends on what thought process you follow. Double-Oh is a designation for license to kill, but it is also his agent number, as prior movies and books introduced other agents, including 006. There's also a theory that name James Bond is a code name assigned to whoever the current 007 is, though that's never been cannon, just something to explain why there have been many different actors of different ages, different styles, and different stories, with the same name, even when some of the supporting cast/characters remain the same.

John

As well as there have been several actors who have portrayed M. And of course there's the other Bond staple, Q, albeit absent from this film.

Baron

Thank you for the great video, I just really noticed this, it has been bugging me, because your edits are really amazing, I was rewatching the start for this video and I started to notice all the edits, I kind of noticed how you edit these longer videos together, it is more apparent during the introduction so it is much much harder to spot edits in the actual watch along, will have to try and pay closer attention. Any way your edits are tight I am seriously surprised that you are not a video editor you are so great at it!

RebRox65

I'm not really a fan of Craig’s bond having grown up with bond seeing my first bond movie at the cinema was LIVE and LET DIE I will never forget the spectacular boat chase scene. The only DC movie the I enjoyed was SKYFALL the rest are just really great action movies, but it's not Bond for me (it's just me guys, sorry)

Misty Crom

The file wont let me download it - says its been downloaded too many times in the last 24 hours. Had the same last night too.

Misty Crom

Well, it worked and what a great reaction. Also, nice to revisit the film. I think you'd enjoy the Johnny English movies based on how you reacted to this. Also, not that I'll say why, but I'm not quite looking forward to you getting to the Deadpool movies, if you plan to watch those along with your MCU watching (they aren't MCU, but really... you should they're awesome) Oh, and it's Craig, not Creg. like Cray, with a G on the end.

Alan Kobb

That's the X-Men universe. I think it's probably on Natalie's list, and I suspect she'd like Wolverine as much as anyone, but who's to say when she'll get to them. Suddenly she's into Bond.

Kevin Cleary

I have to admit, when we were voting on Casino Royale, I thought we were talking about the original and not Craig's. It is fine either way, but I think Craig's Bond is better appreciated when you are jarred with the realization of how different he was versus the character portrayed before. Either way, now you're committed, gotta watch them all! Great reaction as always!

Cripkie

Thanks. Lol James is a total male fantasy but thanks for indulging us 👍

Rusty Childers

Great reaction! I'd suggest doing Skyfall for another Craig Bond. It's probably the best in the series.

Ian

wonderful reaction nat :) never played poker huh before this covid struck once a month a group of us would get together for a poker night starting off at around 7 pm ending anytime often 5am much jack daniels would be drunk and many pizzas eaten it was a lot of fun , gotta adree with not watching QOS its trash but skyfall is excellent

Cpt Babyface

I felt the same way about Craig's Bond for a while. I grew up with Pierce Brosnan's Bond who I felt had the perfect combination of action, comedy, romance, and just overall story telling along with the crazy high tech sci-fi like gadgets. Even though some of the special effect were a bit wonky I was always so amazed at how they did things, I'm a huge fan of both Brosnan's and Connery's Bonds, but Brosnan will always hold a special place in my heart as THE James Bond.

Jaybird922

My favorite Bond film is Goldeneye, but there are lots of good ones to choose from.

Joe Blankenship

Does anybody else answer back to Natalie when she asks questions? I’m like “I dunno, just keep watching and you’ll see,” then she does see, and I’m like “see?” I don’t wanna spoil it for her.

Lucifer Moon

they chose Craig to play bond because he looked so different compared to the bonds of the past and they wanted to disassociate this bond from the others given all the sexism, homophobia ( including promoting 'corrective rape' for lesbians ) and other rapey distasteful stuff of the old bond. That is also why bond takes his drinks differently than the old ones and it is also why this bond shows more emotion than the old ones. I love this movie and it saved James Bond for me. Do not get me wrong the old bonds are okay but they are sexist, homophobic and even take a positive attitude to 'corrective rape' carried out by bond on a lesbian villain so you just have to go into the older films knowing they have these problems ahead of time or they can catch you off-gaurd.

Ron K

Yes! Knives Out please! Great movie, great cast! I wasn't a huge Daniel Craig fan until I saw Knives Out.

Anonymous

That was a lot of fun. I think if you want to jump around and watch some other bond films, it'd be fun if you did one iconic film from each actor so you can see the differences in their styes. I'd recommend Goldfinger or Thunderball (Dr. No may be the first, but it doesn't really have the feel that the rest of the films are remembered for) for Sean Connery. Roger Moore is my personal favorite. I'd recommend The Man with the Golden Gun, or Octopussy. Skip Timothy Dalton, not worth the time. For Pierce Brosnan, Golden Eye is the only real choice. A lot of people are saying Skyfall, which is a great film, but Craig's bond is honestly better appreciated after you're already familiar with the old ones.

Darryl Low

I don't get how unloved Dalton's Bond is. It was unfortunate that his films got caught up in the lawsuit mess, but The Living Daylights is classic Bond, and John Barry's last work for the series. And License to Kill brings a harder edge to the character that had been missing from the series for a while. In one of the comments above about Skyfall, it says it's a great film because it deconstructs the Bond film format. And there-in lies the problem. Why?? If you're going to make a Bond film, then make a Bond film. Don't mock 50yrs of film-making history. Ben Wishaw, I'm looking at you.

Thomas Yanez

If your intent is to watch more Bond, then since you have started with Craig, I would suggest that you just stay with Craig. After that, if you were curious, going back to check out the previous incarnations could be interesting, but randomly bouncing between the generations of Bond would be a mistake, I think. Each Bond essentially has his own continuity and distinct style (both in the Bond character and the film making) and it seems like viewing them randomly would be discordant at the least. In this case, I feel the Patreon polls did you a disservice. That said, I'm still looking forward to your reactions. Throw it up on the screen and I'll watch it. Just keep in mind when picking the movies that this is less like a 24-movie series about one character, it is more like 5 different ways of telling stories about the same character over 24 movies.

Thomas Yanez

Heh, regarding the long intro - that's definitely a Bond thing, nothing specific to this movie. The Bond films are known for their flashy opening credit sequences. The intro wasn't a reward for the fans that had been waiting for the new Bond, it was a requirement for a Bond film. That is one of the things Bond films do very well (usually.) You expect a great cold open followed by a huge credit sequence/song.

Daniel French

Great reaction Natalie, really enjoyed it!! the next bond film you should watch has to be Quantum of Solace as it follows on from Casino Royale and then Daniel's two other bond movies. After that it would be great if you went back to see the very first bond film in 1962 (Dr No) through to the Pierce Brosnan era 2002 (Die Another Day) there are 20 films before Daniel's bond.

Anonymous

You gotta put Goldeneye on the list of bond films to hit

Sean Stuart

just got home from seeing no time to die. the conclusion to this bond story. which is different from the other bond actors and their runs on playing bond. good reaction.

Anonymous

Just throwing it out there that you should probably watch Goldfinger as your next bond film. The 3rd film and the one's that's widely cited as perfecting the Bond formula, becoming the main template for the series.

Anonymous

May as well share this with everyone. Just watched your Casino Royale review. Glad you enjoyed it. May as well share this with everyone. As a matter of interest the casino and hotel scenes weren't filmed in Montenegro but in the Czech Republic. I was there a few years ago. The town is called Karlovy Vary by the Czechs and Karlsbad by the Germans. The hotel was called the Grand Hotel Pupp ..... and yes, prononced as poop. Our guide couldn't understand why the tour group would titter whenever he talked about the hotel.

Logan Kerlee

I am SO disappointed that I didn't know about this reaction, before! hahaha, I just found out about it because I was scrolling on here and VOILA!! I really loved this reaction! It was so darn fun to watch your take on everything, seeing your face when you were shocked or surprised. Or even the end when we all became emotional. I've seen a number of times but it's been a good number of years since I last watched and I was caught off guard.. Very glad that you watched this and I'm hoping to see more Bond reactions in the future. :)

Roland The Gunslinger

Oh, Natalie, you deffinetly should watch the other Daniel Craig's James Bond movies. They are very good.
