Hey y'all!

I need help picking a movie to watch for the week of New Year's! I know some of these movies only vaguely include NYE haha, but I was trying to stick to the theme!

Currently, I'm filming ahead so this will be the last poll for quite a while. Sorry to those of you in the $1 tier only. I'll try to do an extra post here and there for you since the polls will be lacking this month. The video content will keep on coming tho!

When Harry Met Sally is such a classic. It feels realistic - it's not fast, the events are spread out over time and the relationships develop gradually. Love it so much!

Matthew Periolat

My POV is skewed, I’ve only seen Sleepless and When Harry Met Sally..., slight favor to Sleepless so it gets the nod.

Sarlacc1979

Even if you don't react to it, you should watch Sunset Boulevard. It's a fantastic roller-coaster.

Matthew Periolat

Speaking for myself, I’d love to see Nat do more ‘classic’ movies from silents to the 60s. Not a lot of people do reacts to them. Problem is after a while it feels like a demand to watch everything and that’s kinda unfair. But hope to get to it someday.

The utter lack of respect for WHMS is driving me nuts! Watching Sleepless in Seattle before WHMS is sort of like watching Empire Strikes Back before A New Hope! Not really. But You've Got Mail is sort of the Return of the Jedi of the Meg Ryan Rom-Com Trilogy!

Anonymous

Sleepless in Seattle - even I shed some manly tears there. ^^ And reading your announcement, I may just upgrade to a five bucks tier and blame it on you!

Anonymous

So I absolutely Love Meg Ryan but you've seen it already. Completely different for future reference. If you haven't seen it. " French Kiss." Such a funny & romantic movie.

MotoDork

I’ll go on record and say When Harry Met Sally is superior to Sleepless in Seattle.

Andy Jordan

Sunset Blvd.! One of Billy Wilder’s best films, and I agree it’s required watching as a movie buff, even if you don’t film your reaction to it.

Randee Carreno

Love both "Sleepless in Seattle" and "When Harry Met Sally", two great Meg Ryan films. But "Sleepless in Seattle" definitely gets my vote. 😊

Jack the Narrator

There's also the comedy NEW YEARS EVE starring Robert DeNiro, Halle Berry, Zac Efron and Michelle Pfeiffer. Or there's the 1995 action thriller STRANGE DAYS directed by Kathryn Bigelow starring Ralph Fiennes, which takes place on New Year's Eve 1999.

Luis Torrefranca

Where might Joe Versus the Volcano fall? Tom Hanks fits the trilogy criteria well, but When Harry Met Sally still feels like a better fit for a kickoff movie.

Gath Bard

"When Harry Met Sally" has the best New Year's Eve scene and it's one of my favorite movies, but Sleepless in Seattle is a first time viewing for you, so I went with that.

Anonymous

You should watch Serendipity!

Brad Bunch

Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard? Are you sure you don't want The Apartment, Billy Wilder's funny yet mildly depressing New Year's film?

Anonymous

I dont care for any of those movies.

Anonymous

What about the movie.....New Years Eve lol?

Eric Haefele

I lean towards movies that you have not seen yet. Thus my vote for "Sleepless".

Martin Heron

Sleepless in Seattle's going to run away with this as a crowd-pleaser, but definitely watch Sunset Boulevard at some point. One of the best films ever. Have an old Hollywood month!

wildhunt1973

As a man, I will say Sleepless in Seattle is a good watch... once. However, Sunset Boulevard is simply amazing! I give Sleepless in Seattle a 2.65/5, I give Sunset Boulevard a 4.85/5.

Anonymous

It’s not there, but 200 Cigarettes. So many recognizable actors and it is pure New Years.

It Hurt A Lot

I've never seen Sunset Boulevard but About a Boy seems like the kind of movie Nat would like, with the bromance and comedy

Graht1

About a Boy is incredibly under appreciated, imho.

Jack the Narrator

Another movie that just came to mind is ENTRAPMENT starring the late, great Sean Connery & Catherine Zeta-Jones. It's a heist film where the climax takes place on New Years Eve 1999 in Kuala Lumpur.

Alan Kobb

Honestly, I'm not crazy about this list. Some other movies to consider: Forest Gump has a New Years scene Rosemary's Baby if you want horror Trading Places - A great comedy for New Years! The Poseidon Adventure

Troy B.

Agreed. It's one of the few Hugh Grant movies I can stand.

Sleepless in Seattle is easily one of the best New Year's Eve movies of all time, and it's one of my personal favorites

Darryl Low

Like Nat, I have only seen When Harry met Sally out of these. Looks like Tom Hanks for the win and I'd like Nat to watch something she hasn't seen before.

Thomas Malley

About a Boy is really a fantastic movie. It was used in my screenwriting class as a perfect script for character arcs. The movie is underrated and not talked about enough and it’s dealing with some real issues while still qualifying as a comedy. Sleepless in Seattle is a shadow of When Harry Met Sally, even though they were trying to go for that rom-com feel.

JSharp

I would have picked Entrapment. It manages to rope Y2K into New Year’s. When Harry Met Sally is 3 times better than Sleepless in Seattle. I think Tom Hanks is in a total of three different sets and two different costumes in the latter. If it’s been a long time since you saw When Harry, watch it again. If not, do Sunset Boulevard. As an actor, you’ll love the story.

Nicholas Hentges

Oh God, Sunset Boulevard is an absolute film classic, shouldn't be on the list with the others lol

JayF

I will second the pick of Trading Places that a person above made. Very funny comedy.

Thomas Yanez

Yeah, available choices are not my cups of tea, so I'll go with "Trading Places", too.

Ken

Sunset Boulevard is amazing, but probably can't win a poll against newer movies people are more familiar with. Another great one by the same writer-director (and also a Christmas-New Year's movie) is The Apartment. Maybe one for next year's poll is Four Rooms, an anthology dark comedy movie set in a hotel on New Year's. Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez are two of the directors Sleepless in Seattle will be a fun watch along. I remember liking it but haven't seen it since I was a kid

Bruce Bromley

What! There has to be a few New Year's Eve films that deal with the apocalypse. I know of one, it's Canadian and a bit obscure, but it does have David Cronenberg in an acting role. Oh well, I guess I'll have to chose from the four. 😊

Monty Python and The Holy Grail

I liked About A Boy the best of these, and agree with Thomas. But, About Time, with Dohmnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Nighy, I thought was an exceptionally moving and enjoyable movie, that features not only New Years, but time travel, and focuses on personal relationships and time. I think Nat would enjoy it, and it would be fun to watch with.

Thomas Malley

Trading Places is a classic above all classics.

PickettsChargingPort

I think I'll have to abstain from this one, since I've not seen any. Choosing a random one may throw things off a small bit.

Anonymous

If you havent seen Die Hard I expect you to watch it on Christmas Eve :P

Misty Crom

Surely then this is the perfect opportunity TO see one of them, with Nat's company? Or do you mean voting? In which case, fair enough.

Emily Smith

Yes...Die Hard IS a Christmas movie! LOL

Brandon Royce

It makes me sad to know, before even seeing the results, that Sunset Boulevard won't ever win this poll. It's so old (yet so undeniably brilliant), that only film buffs will truly know how good it is. And everyone else overlooks it, simply because of its age.

Anonymous

Look into the movie GO, it takes place between Christmas and New Years.

Bob Criswell

I didn't think I'd be interested in any of these movies and so wasn't going to vote. Your comment gave me pause to think and after looking at the plot lines of the candidates on IMDB I've decided to throw my vote to Sunset Boulevard.

Justin S.

Sunset Boulevard is overall the best film in this poll but Sleepless in Seattle is one of my favorite romantic comedies, and is one that a lot men said they enjoyed even when they are not usually a fan of that genre. While You Were Sleeping has NYE'S scenes if I remember correctly and anything with Sandra Bullock is definitely worth seeing. Also, Strange Days is an underrated sci-fi mystery that takes place on NYE. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by James Cameron.

Darryl Low

Oh wow! While you were Sleeping! Not to sound like Obi-Wan, but that's a film I've not seen in a long, long time! It's a lot of fun. If Nat hasn't seen it, it's definitely one to add to the list.

Anonymous

Yeah, While You Were Sleeping, that's a good one too. Very Christimas-to-New Years-y. And nice.

Dave M.

STAR WARS , dang it. haha

Anonymous

For a second I though Before Sunset was on the list and got excited

Tiger Chu

Hot Fuzz

Cripkie

Ive got a soft spot for rom coms growing up with a single mum. all tear jerkers but sleepless is a classic.

Anonymous

I vote Sunset Boulevard just because it’s so damn creepy. Such a classic. Yeah, it’s a very old movie, but it’s enduring. Especially the last scene. Truly....check it out.

Arki Kali

At some point, you definitely need to watch The Outsiders. An iconic line is "Stay gold," so it's fitting. 🙂

swoop_13-37

Alil disappointed sunset Boulevard didn't get higher votes.
