What movie should be next for the NATMARES? I know these are a little more lighthearted and not so spooky...I just need a little break haha

Comments

Anonymous

The original evil dead is fantastic! Definitely a must-see.

mrhalfbit

This is the hardest poll that has come up.... they are all perfect films...

Anonymous

Shaun of the dead, always.

Anonymous

Beetlejuice for sure.

WastedPo

Evil Dead isn't lighthearted. (To a degree, the second one is. It's sort of a mashup between grindhouse horror, satire, and ultimately pulpy comic book.) However, the first E.D. is interesting in sort of a "film history" way - seeing the roots of both Sam Raimi and his childhood buddy, Bruce Campbell - and seeing this extremely low-budget movie that they had to self-fund, etc.

mrhalfbit

All of these are must see...

Andy Jordan

My vote's for Shaun of the Dead, but Beetlejuice is my second choice. I think you'll enjoy any of these, though.

Flick Freaks

I love all of these movies. But I do hope that this Halloween season you watch ‘The Cabin In The Woods’ if you have not seen it.

Calo Grsf

They're all so good... If only you could watch everything haha

wildhunt1973

I've never been into Evil Dead. Now, Army of Darkness is a fantastic movie (3rd Evil Dead movie), but the other two I just could never get into. Of the four listed, I've only seen Beetlejuice, and it's such a great comedy/horror. The entire cast is perfect!

Gath Bard

Natalie, looking at the poll at the moment I doubt it will be needed, but just in case: multiple people on stream tried to point this out but the chat was moving too fast: Evil Dead is NOT a light-hearted horror movie. The sequels are (not the remake), but the original one is properly scary. If you go to into it expecting a lighter horror movie you're in for a nasty surprise.

TrackHoodie

I voted for Shaun. Now all we got to do is "have a nice cold pint and wait for this all to blow over"

Ronny Boss

I went with Tucker and Dale. It's a really funny take on the slasher film. Regardless of which one wins, they are all great choices

Ronny Boss

#AskNat how do you choose what films to put on the poll's?

Anonymous

If you like Alan Tudic from Firefly, You will love him in Tucker and Dale. Evil Dead is not light hearted. It's a bit campy but not light hearted. Beetlejuce is also a must watch

Andy Jordan

Cabin in the Woods is awesome, but I feel like she needs to see a few other classics before, like at least the first Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, Hellraiser, the first Saw, maybe The Strangers.

Darryl Low

I think a quadruple bill is in order! Ha Ha! No, I don't think any of us could handle that. A toss of the coin between Shaun and Beetlejuice.

Sarlacc1979

The first Evil Dead movie is more straight up horror compared to its sequels or the other movies on this list, but it is a good movie. If you want to jump into the deep end for sci-fi horror movies, which we all enjoy your reactions from, then maybe try Event Horizon or The Fly.

Anonymous

Tucker and Dale, please! I feel that flick has just been stepped on by history, when it really deserves to be in the wider conversation. If you want a nutty time though, I seriously recommend Hobo With A Shotgun

Kris Olo

Shaun of the Dead is so great! Funny and spooky!

Hylaea

None of these are all that scary, tbh. The first Nightmare on Elm Street and Event Horizon are good October movies if you've never seen either.

Anonymous

My favorites are in the top two! Shaun of the Dead you absolutely need to see!

Anonymous

Too many choices! All great. As previously stated Evil Dead is not lighthearted. In my opinion Evil Dead 2, which has a brief rehash of the first one at the start because they lost the rights to their own film is the best. It’s groovy.

Anonymous

THNX From The INTJ ASPERGERS guy

Anonymous

Not just a vicarious life form :)

Anonymous

Tucker and Dale probably won't win but it should still make the Reaction list.

Anonymous

Have you already seen Young Frankenstein, Nat?

Anonymous

As others have said, maybe skip Evil Dead and go straight to Evil Dead 2, when that comes back around. Thinking it won't win the round!

Anonymous

I was just thinking this. Not only my favorite Halloween comedy, but one of my favorite comedy films period.

Anonymous

Tucker and Dale is more of a parody on the horror cabin in the woods movie. Funny but can also be scary. It also has Alan Tudyk!! Wash from Firefly!!!!!

Anonymous

Totally Shaun of the Dead. You can't go wrong with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost!

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead and Beetlejuice

Meghan Renee

Evil dead and evil dead 2 are terrifying

Christian Rennie

My real response is that you gotta watch em all!!! But Evil Dead 2 instead of regular evil dead. The second one is the same story/movie but with more money and more coherent.

Anonymous

I'm looking forward to your Shaun of the Dead reaction! Other recommendations: Scream, Poltergeist, Monster Squad, Paranormal Activity, Jeepers Creepers, The Burbs

Anonymous

Welcome to her Natmare!! https://twitter.com/i/status/1313239202969137157

Anonymous

Tucker and Dale only works if you understand the tropes it is undermining and subverting. :)

Anonymous

If you do Shaun, please please do Hot Fuzz at some point. It’s the best movie.

Anonymous

Evil Dead 2!

Justin S.

Good poll of horror comedies. I assume it is the original Evil Dead (1981)? Evil Dead (2013) is not lighthearted at all and it is a brutal but thrilling horror film. The 1981 original is definitely more horror than comedy but the two sequels added a lot more humor. Army of Darkness is my favorite and that would be a fun reaction.

Justin S.

Yes, the original Evil Dead creeped me out the first time I saw it because I was still a kid. It is quite impressive how good the practical effects were on such a low budget. Also, I think it actually received an NC-17 rating when it was first released. The 2013 Evil Dead reboot is more brutal than the original but it was quite a thrilling horror movie.

Troy B.

I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, but I've been meaning to for ages now, so this would be my perfect opportunity to do that. Also, "Natmares"? That's brilliant.

David of the North

Awwww. I love Shaun but Beetlejuice is such a classic. Keaton is sublime. Please give your second place votes another go.

Robert

Try “Let The Right One In”. Go for subtitles. Dubbed always sucks. It’s a very good story

Kelvin

Can't vote, all of these are good.

Vincent Valentin

Shaun of the Dead is great but Tucker and Dale is so underrated and i haven't really seen anyone do it .

Danny

I suggest Parasite. It's not technically a horror movie but does have some horror elements to it.

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead really isn't scary but it's a very good movie in keeping with the Natmare season. It'll give you a slight break from all the suspense. :D

Thundarr100

All great choices. My pick is dead last in the polls (Evil Dead) but I hope you do manage to react to it before Halloween season is over.

Justin S.

Here are my scary movie suggestions: Christine (1983)- A Stephen King Novel adaptation, Directed by John Carpenter, who did The Thing and Halloween. Gremlins (1984)- A lighthearted horror flick from the 80s that was partially responsible for the creation of the PG-13 rating. Fright Night (1985)- A cool vampire movie with a soundtrack that is fun to listen to. The Fly (1986)- Maybe the best combination of science fiction and horror. Child's Play (1988)- The original Chucky movie and still the best. Bram Stroker's Dracula (1992)- My personal favorite version of this story. The Relic (1997)- A cool monster flick from the 90s. The Ninth Gate (1999)- A creepy mystery starring Johnny Depp. The Descent (2005)- A creepy cave thriller that is underrated. Slither (2006)- An outrageous horror comedy starring Nathan Fillion from Firefly.

Holly R

Question: Will there be no more MCU until 2021? I know you're not doing them like you did Star Wars (in movie 'blocks') but with Halloween going through October, and with Firefly, and with additional movies like Gladiator, and with an expected Holiday movie run, it seems that the MCU watch will be put on hold for a while?

Anonymous

No Hocus Pocus?

Anonymous

Conjuring 2

Anonymous

I thought Tucker and Dale was one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen...

Anonymous

as far as lighthearted halloween goes, i thoroughly recommend Wes Craven's Scream or Dead Alive by Peter Jackson after watching Evil Dead. A fantastic blend of terror and humor.

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead, because you need to laugh, Natalie. In fact, you should do the entire trilogy: Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End.

Will

Hot Fuzz, definitely! I didn't really love The World's End, personally.

Anonymous

Natalie. Just in time for the season watch "Halloween" (1978). Jamie Lee Curtis debut movie.

Anonymous

Another good Halloween movie is "Sleepy Hollow" (1999). A Tim Burton film featuring Johnny Depp.

nataliegold

I could quote every line from that movie haha so it won’t make for that great of a reaction

Anonymous

Good suggestion Robert. This original dubbed Swedish version with subtitles was released in 2008. The English language version with a name change is "Let Me In" (2010) starring Chloë Grace Moretz.

Anonymous

Everyone needs a break from horror after watching The Exorcist.

Ken

If want a real break from horror, Beetljuice is the one to watch. It lost but you might want to watch it later this month anyway if you need something lighthearted and fun.

Anonymous

My vote was for Beetlejuice, but any of these would be a fun reaction. For a future ooll this month, I'd love to see Scream, Lost Boys, Paranormal Activity, and Arachnophobia.

Anonymous

You've got to do Paranormal Activity! Also, Poltergeist and Scream would be great watchalongs!

Anonymous

Monster Squad would be such a fun reaction! It's got some fun horror, comedy, and a huge dose of 80's cheese all mixed in!

Anonymous

Now that you've seen Exorcist, I gotta recommend 1990's Exorcist spoof, Repossessed, starring Linda Blair and Leslie Neilsen!

Anonymous

I really hope you react to Scream this month(assuming you haven't seen it yet).

Anonymous

Was hoping Beetlejuice would win, but oh well. Some other possible Natmare picks: Creepshow, Event Horizon, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight(Billy Zane is fantastic!), Lost Boys, Paranormal Activity.

Anonymous

You've got to watch Poltergeist! One of the all-time horror classics.

Anonymous

Scream is a must-watch for this Natmare movie month! It not only was THE horror film of the 90's, but it revitalized the entire horror movie genre.

Anonymous

Just a few recommendations: Lost Boys, Fright Night, Poltergeist, They Live, Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Anonymous

Evil Dead 2!

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead is going to be fun! Not sure if you've got your next polls set, but some great choices would be Predator, Ghostbusters, Arachnophobia, The Devil's Advocate, The Faculty, Dusk Til Dawn, Trick r' Treat, The Ring(2002)

Anonymous

Scream!!

Anonymous

I enthusiastically recommend Arachnophobia!

Anonymous

I think you would really enjoy the animated film Monster House from 2006!

Anonymous

My top 2 picks for the rest of this month would be Poltergeist and Scream.

Anonymous

I think Paranormal Activity would be the perfect reaction for Natalie!

Anonymous

Looks like it's Shaun of the Dead for the win! I'm guessing there's time fore 2, maybe 3 more movies this Horror movie month. Scream is an obvious choice, but some other fun picks would be Zombieland, Ghostbusters, The Invisible Man(2020), Jeepers Creepers, Trick r' Treat, The Ring, The Mist.

Anonymous

Knowing what we now abut your house now, I fully recommend Paranormal Activity, Poltergeist, Ghost House, House on Haunted Hill.

Anonymous

A recommendation that probably wouldn't win any poll, is 1982's The Entity.

Anonymous

I wish The Monster Squad would have been on this current poll, it's definitely a more light-hearted horror film, and is a ton of fun!

Anonymous

Wait, wait.. not that it's gotta shot at winning, but how in the heck is Evil Dead on a poll of "light-hearted" horror films? It's got a scene of a girl getting raped by a tree!!

Anonymous

Hey Natalie, have you seen Ghostbusters? If not, it's a definite must watch!

Anonymous

Let's get 1996's Scream on a poll! Drew Barrymore is fantastic in the movie, the perfect horror movie heroine!

Anonymous

Beetlejuice would have been a great reaction, but Shaun of the Dead should be fun too. Echoing some of the other recommendations on here, I think movies like Scream, Poltergeist, Jeepers Creepers, and Arachnophobia are no-brainers for fun movies to react to. And Ghostbusters isn't exactly scary, but it's a perfect Halloween movie.

Anonymous

2007's The Mist!

Anonymous

I recommend the underrated Tom Hanks Horror/comedy classic, The Burbs.

Anonymous

Looks like it's going to be a Shaun of the Dead reaction. I'm good with that. Some others you might want to consider - Jeepers Creepers, Hollowman, The Witches of Eastwick, Once Bitten.

Anonymous

Please put Scream on one of the next couple polls.

Anonymous

Horror/horror-esque movie recommendations: Signs, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Poltergeist, Twilight Zone the Movie, Creepshow, Paranormal Activity, Frailty, Arachnophobia.

Anonymous

Scream or Poltergeist would both make for great reactions. They're both incredibly fun movies with enough scares to make for a fun reaction video.

Thomas Malley

Beetlejuice coming in at a strong number 2.

Anonymous

Hey Jon just wondering why you consider Frailty horror? I always took it as more a thriller than horror.

Travis Bounds

Evil Dead should def be after Shaun

Anonymous

Literally became a Patron to vote for Shaun.

Anonymous

Love all of these for lighter fare (except for the Evil Dead, as others have pointed out) and it looks like the flawless Shaun Of The Dead is the winner, though I think you're going to miss out on a ton of the jokes if you've avoided a lot of classic zombie films. Once you're back to less light fare, The Descent! Scary AF, and a phenomenal all female cast.

Anonymous

Since it looks like Beetlejuice is lagging in this poll, you should definitely keep it on the list for later. I would also recommend Young Frankenstein.

Anonymous

Ernest Scared Stupid is *very* light

Anonymous

all of the above ...

Anonymous

YES, ...........Natalie definitely needs to be introduced to Marty Feldman.

David Webb

Disappointed Tucker and Dale didn't do better but Shaun of the dead is agreat movie. Looking forward to it.

Anonymous

please watch The 4th Kind :)

The Golgothan

I wouldn't put the first Evil Dead on the same level as Beetlejuice, Shaun of the Dead and Tucker and Dale vs Evil in terms of lightheartedness. It's probably closer to the original Dawn of the Dead in that regard.

Anonymous

Since it looks like Shaun of the Dead is going to win, and based on your reactions so far, I feel like I should give you a heads up. It is a fantastic movie & very funny, but it still does have enough gore to keep it firmly in the horror genre. Brace yourself accordingly and you should really enjoy this one. :)

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead is the first in a trilogy. Somewhere down the line, maybe after October and you’re back on the MCU, and you need a break, you can watch “Hot Fuzz” and “The World’s End”

Will

I will say that the different-genre different-characters same-stars 'sequel' Hot Fuzz is much more fun and funny in general than Shaun Of The Dead. It's a really hilarious spoof of cop movies. :) Shaun of the Dead is a proper horror film, despite being very funny in places. Actually, it occurs to me that Hot Fuzz might actually be gory and horrific enough in places to be included in NATMARES. There are some really nasty moments! 😀 Do it! Fans of Shaun Of The Dead would love you for it. 😀

Anonymous

Of those I would go with Beetlejuice. A fifth option could be Young Frankenstein.

Peter Hudson

Evil Dead shouldn't be here if you're looking for fun, Evil Dead 2 is when they suddenly start getting funny. First Evil Dead is straight up scary

Anonymous

Shaun of The Dead will be an entertaining reaction video! I hope Natalie adds Scream to one of the next polls.

Anonymous

Here are some possible fun movie choices for this month - Clue(would have been great for this poll), The Ring, Poltergeist, Love at First Bite, Jeepers Creepers, Paranormal Activity

Anonymous

Ghostbusters is the perfect halloween movie!

Anonymous

Would have preferred Beetlejuice, but Natalie should have a blast watching Shaun of the Dead. Hope to see her react to some more classics this month like Poltergeist, Scream, and Nightmare of Elm Street.

Anonymous

I think some other lighthearted movies that would have been fun for Halloween month would have been Casper, The Addams Family, The Witches, Monster House, The Frighteners, Goosebumps.

Anonymous

Really would love to see Jeepers Creepers on one of the next polls, although I doubt it would win.

Anonymous

Not sure when the next horror movie poll goes up, but I vote for Arachnophobia!

Anonymous

I see it's going to be a Shaun of the Dead reaction. Cool. Movies I'd love to see on a poll during Natmare month: Ghostbusters, Signs, Creepshow, Poltergeist, Dawn of the Dead(2003), Paranormal Activity.

Anonymous

Paranormal Activity for the next poll!

Anonymous

Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight Ghostbusters The Lost Boys Scream I Know What You Did Last Summer The Faculty House on Haunted Hill Interview With a Vampire Sleepy Hollow

Anonymous

Shaun of the Dead is a BLAST!

Anakin Starkiller

Sean of The Dead still has your Zombie kick but it's definitely hilarious

Anonymous

After Thing and the Exorcist, you could probably use a Horror flick that has a bit of fun in it too.

Graht1

I wish Tremors was on that poll :)

Jerry Gomez

you should give yourself a comedy break and watch Young Frankenstein

Anonymous

Add in Mel Brooks, "Young Frankenstein" You gotta do it before Halloween...

Anonymous

I would love to see you do the Evil Dead series, Evil Dead 2 is my favorite horror movie of all time!

Justin S.

Poltergeist is definitely a classic and really was the movie that introduced me to the horror genre as a kid. The sequels were disappointing though so I think Nat can skip those.

swoop_13-37

I'll be presumptuous... If Shaun wins you will be required to watch, hot fuzz and the world's end.,.. it's part of the trilogy...... And it's top af... The ice cream and blood chronicles. Yes it has numerous names.,..

Tiger Chu

So happy Shaun of The Dead is on the list. If it wins the poll, then Hot Fuzz is a must afterwards.

justajester

ok so like don't watch the newest evil dead movie actually just watch evil dead 2 its the best one and is essentially a remake of 1 but better

RebRox65

Why is no one voting for Evil Dead, it’s a masterpiece, so many films and songs have sampled from this movie. It’ take the piss out of itself, it funny, and its a gore feast.. Sam ramie

Anonymous

I quite enjoy the Evil Dead, but that movie shouldn't have even been on this poll, which is for more lighthearted films.

Anonymous

I chose evil dead. If i had it my way i'd choose the Ash Vs. the Evil Dead series, but that would be a huge commitment for Natalie tbh, unless she wanted too.

LudicDave

I pick secret option 5: Please no more scary movies.

Anonymous

Alright guys, Quit trying to give Natalie, NATMARES!! lol

Christian Rennie

Shoot I just thought about movie to see but it is more like a thriller not horror: “The Abyss” by James Cameron. It was an amazing movie and cast. People nearly died on set and conditions were terrible for actors. Cameron was hard to work with. But, gurl, it is amazing!

Tiger Chu

Another great movie to checkout is What We Do in The Shadows. Bit of a horror comedy

Super J22

Shaun of the Dead great change of pace for you :)

Anonymous

CABIN IN THE WOODS would be great this month..!

Anonymous

Skipping ahead to start with EVIL DEAD 2 is a better plan IMO

Brandon Scott

YES! I think I suggested this at some point over the past month. How do we make this happen??

Anakin Starkiller

If you want something funny but still with a horror kick to it Shaun Of The Dead is good. Make no mistakes though it does have serious scenes and even those are done very well. But it will definitely make you laugh as well.

Anakin Starkiller

Yes I agree for Evil Dead but alot of people would want you to do all three films

Arki Kali

Tucker and Dale is awesome!
