I went to a writing retreat this weekend to try to finish up Rough Around the Hedges. Despite having to leave the retreat for a book panel at a local Barnes and Noble (it was a ton of fun) and to teach (Also fun. I have a great group of writers) I added about 12,000 words to my manuscript. Not as much as I wanted, but I'm not mad at it, either. I've been working a lot to try to catch up from being sick, and when I'm writing huge chunks like that, I don't read quite as much, and I mostly reread.

Because my brain is very, very tired. I've also been reading a bunch of the work my class has turned in for the writing workshop. It's made it difficult to come up with a TBR topic, since I've already done rereads before. Still, I thought you might like to see what I've been reading and maybe what I've preordered lately because I'm excited about it.

Panel prep: I tried to read some books by the authors I was on the panel with this week. I'd either already read at least one of their books of had them on my TBR. But if you're a romance reader, I was on the panel with Piper Drake (She has a ton of books, but does a lot of romantic suspense and she has a new fantasy one coming out in a minute that looks great), Serena Bell (Contemporary romance, some set in Seattle), Geneva Lee (Contemporary and Paranormal Romance), A. M. Bellefleur (Contemporary, LGBTQ+, Seattle based romance). Our moderator Jenna (@live_1000_lives) was amazing and does a ton of book reviews on her social.

Audio: I'm listening to The Charming Man by C.K. McDonnell. This is the follow up to The Stranger Times which is about a newspaper that reports on weird and crazy happenings...and then the find out this stuff is real. The cast of characters is really fun.

Fated Mates (it's a podcast) did their annual Derek Craven day, so I reread Dreaming of You, the Lisa Kleypas book featuring that character. The female lead, Sarah, is a writer, and it's always funny to see writer characters in books. I also read Cold Hearted by Heather Guerre (Paranormal Romance) which was recommended by one of you. It was a lot of fun!

Books I've preordered recently (some of which have come out but I haven't had time to read them yet):

The Ring that Caesar Wore by Ashley Gardner (Mystery set in Ancient Rome)

Magic Tides by Ilona Andrews (Adult, Urban Fantasy)

Hen Fever by Olivia Waite (Historical Sapphic Romance)

Triptych by Karin Slaughter (Mystery. This book isn't new, but I put it on my library hold list because it's the first Will Trent book and I've been enjoying the show.)

Sailor's Delight by Rose Lerner (M/M historical. Rose was my editor on ALTF!)

Murder at Haven's Rock by Kelley Armstrong (Adult mystery)

Good Neighbors by Stephanie Burgis (Cozy-spooky Rom Com)

Find Him Where You Left Him Dead by Kristen Simmons (YA, Horror. I've actually already read this because Kristen is my friend, but I want my own copy. Delightfully creepy, this book is like Jumanji meets Japanese mythology/yokai. I loved it.)

So all in all, pretty romance heavy and I'm cool with that. My brain is tired and wants comfort.

What books have you preordered/put on your library waitlist that you're excited about? Put them in the comments and make all of our TBRs horrifically large.

Not pre-order because it's out already, but I'm really looking forward to Kendare Blake's follow-up Buffy book, One Girl in All the World. And coming out soon, Gwenda Bond's Mr. and Mrs. Witch!

Kendare is awesome. She's one of my writing retreat buddies and favorite people. You should also check out Will Ritter's Spike book! Gwenda is also awesome. I got an early digital copy of Mr. and Mrs. Witch but haven't had time to read it. *inserts crying emoji*
