In this post, we would like to help you to deepen your understanding about Shamisen!

As your playing technique improves, you probably would start paying more attention to the tools you use. Let's review the following videos once again to find out what kind of materials are available and what are the differences for the instrument / the basic tools, so that you will not make a mistake when you buy a new one.

Bachi Types

The Bachi is an expensive item and it is not easily replaced. Thus it is important that you know the checkpoints of choosing a Bachi in advance, so you are prepared to take proper care of what you have or, to buy a perfect one for you anytime you have to replace it in the future. One of them is that you definitely need to recognize whether a Bachi is for Tsugaru Shamisen or not because even if it says "for Tsugaru" on online shopping websites, the Bachi could be made for a different genre/style of Shamisen. Please be carefull!

String Types

Depending on the material and thickness of the string you use, there are subtle differences in tone and a feel when you play. Since you usually replace the strings frequently and they are not that expensive, it would be a good idea if you could enjoy experimenting with different types of strings!
