Hi everyone,

It's been a week since I started The Great Experiment, so I thought it was timely to write a quick progress update post!

How's it going?

It's going preeetty ok, in the sense that I haven't yet crashed and burned, and have managed to keep to the deadlines and goals that I'd set for myself, at the start of this experiment.

I've met some deadlines more comfortably than others, though, so you could safely say that I'm still feeling my way around this, and finding my groove.

New Tweaks

1. Thinking about my weekly schedule, I realize that when it comes time for a review to be put together, I'm very likely going to need some extra time, because the current schedule just doesn't have a lot of wiggle room (at least, at the moment).

Let's use Alchemy Of Souls as an example.

When I finish putting up episode notes for E17 & E18, which would be on Friday, 2 September 2022, I don't foresee that I'd be able to be ready with the review by the following Friday, 9 September.

Which is why I think the concept of a gap week would be helpful, in giving me enough time to work on the review, while still staying on schedule for the other shows on Patreon, and the group watch on the main blog.

This is something that I need to test out, because I won't know how it'll work until I try it out, but I just wanted to put it out there, that I'm planning to try out a gap week, to see how well it works.

2. Also, I'm thinking of publishing reviews on either Sundays or Mondays, as a general rule, because that's when blog traffic seems to be higher, which implies that this is when folks are more inclined to read new content on the blog.

So in effect, the time between the penultimate episode notes on Patreon and the the actual review coming out on the blog, would be a week and then some.

Again, I'll need to test this out, to see if it works ok, or if I need to find a way to make my turnaround time faster, so that the lag is shorter.

If you have ideas on how to make this work better, please let me know!

Am I getting any rest?

Thanks to those of you who expressed concern that I won't be getting enough rest on this new schedule.

I'm making adequate rest part of my goal, so I'm working on it.

I didn't get as much rest as I would have liked, this week, but I put that down to teething issues, and I expect that when I've got myself better sorted out, that I ought to be able to get more sleep than I've been getting this week.

Am I getting any me-time?

Again, thank you to those of you who expressed concern that I ought to make sure that I am getting enough down time, so that I will be able to keep to this new schedule in a sustainable manner.

This week, I also implemented the goal of working out 3x a week instead of just once a week.

That definitely added to my scheduling challenges, and increased the likelihood of teething issues, but I reasoned with myself, that if I'm going to be able to do this sustainably, I also need to work in time for taking care of my health.

And so, I went for 2 extra workout classes this week, and now I am aching like I haven't ached, in a while. 😝😅

Which means that I've been working on the new schedule while aching in places I didn't know could ache (my muscles between my ribs hurt, not even exaggerating, y'all 🤪), and sleeping less well, not just because of the new schedule, but because I'm aching in places I didn't know I could ache.

It's.. a journey, is what it is. 😁😅

I'm continuing to tweak my workout plan, as part of this experiment, and well, so far, it's going not bad, I think?

As in, I'm not there yet, but I can recognize that I'm on the way there, so right now, I feel like sustaining this schedule is actually within reach (or so I think!).

And.. that's all the updates I have, on The Great Experiment. 😁

Again, please feel free to let me know how this is working out for you guys, I'm very interested to know what you think!

Love ya!

KFG ❤️

I think all this sounds great! I love going through the Patreon watches faster to more closely align with their broadcasting schedules. I like the idea of just one group watch, being chosen by a discussion rather than a poll. I so appreciate everything you do, KFG, so I happy to see that your goals include taking care of yourself. That’s the most important thing! Whatever works for you will work for us!

I second Rita, please take good care of yourself!! I do like the new pace as well, but simply doubling your work to make it happen is not sustainable, I hope you are making other trade offs behind the scenes as well (perhaps your extra shows?). Time to rest is very important too, so if needed do let your exercise slide too, or use the slot to do some gentle stretching rather than HIIT workouts say!
