Mako was one of the few trainees that were in consideration to debut as ITZY...... I'm glad she was able to forge her own path after not making it and debut as NiZiu's leader.

Thao_p

I went back to season 1 to look for Mayuka and sadly she practically had zero screen time. She was only seen more towards the end with the final team performance.

A.D

theres a video of mako dancing with like 3 or 4 members of itzy back when they were all trainees, super good! Also, niziu have a new reality show coming soon :D As for the eliminated trainees, Yuna is still with jyp as she was before nizi project, they actually allowed her to get social media even though she is still a trainee. Everyone suspects she will be in the next korean gg by jyp, as she is half korean.

Thao_p

At the moment Mako, Rio and Maya have only been subbed and yes the subbing team have said that they are on a break. Hopefully 3 weeks they will be back for ep 4

I can't wait for their debut comback, , mayuka is probably going to bias wreak me with the purple hair 😢😢😢😢😢

Great reaction as always bro! NiziU has become a huge highlight for me this year in music and I can't wait to see where they go with their journey- starting off with December 2nd! ^_^ Also, for these NiziU 9 stories, i'm actually kind of excited for Ayaka's episode. Like imagine the flack she was getting for that entire year of working on the show. She was definitely most improved out of all the contestants but she had no shortage of "yikes" moments that ppl on social media took advantage of. I really want to hear how she dealt with it all. Its prob gonna be emotional for sure.

Japanese has several levels of politeness. The most polite is the way you speak to the Emperor. Fortunately Korean only has formal and informal. Informal speech isn't slang. It's like saying Yes Sir, No Sir, to someone you don't know which is formal, but you wouldn't talk like that to a friend unless you were being sarcastic. Warning: Koreans do not do sarcasm. It's hugely offensive.

Watching this made me realize how much I took Mako's growth for granted since she was always so good. I had to laugh when she had to watch dramas to learn to be angry. Mako's an amazing human and I'm not ready for the debut. Oh and I'm older than TooGrown and draw inspiration from these shows. And there were 26 participants in Season 1.

Mr Jackpots

Mako knows the secret of how to make a great burger. Get a cut of beef like round or sirloin steak and grind it yourself. You won't get food poisoning and the burger is amazing!

Wayne W

@TooGrown I'm not sure if they have an official intro greeting yet, but I've heard them say "We NiziU" as in We need you. The fandom name is WithU (With You) if that helps you remember 😄

Mr Jackpots

When JYP restructured his company in 2018, he set it up so it pretty much runs itself, probably so he could do things like the Nizi project. I think looking for and developing talent is what he really enjoys doing. If you're interested he talks about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08257W8sdNs He speaks in English the whole time.

Nizi means rainbow, and it would usually be written with a J instead of a Z in transliterations from Japanese to English, because that's closer to the way it's actually pronounced, which makes NiziU sound like "need you". Unlike Japanese and English, Korean doesn't have a real Z sound, and in transliterations from Korean to English, the letter Z is often used to represent a harder J sound. Maybe that's why JYPE decided to go with a Z. Also the Nizi symbol is a N and a Z merged together, so that could be part of the reason. It must be confusing for a lot of people, you're not alone!

1 hour of pure Mako. next week Rio!! my 2 Biases <3 ive seen a comment under one of the niziu reactions saying that these arent worth it, because they are basiclly just highlights from the show. Whoever that was, you have no appreciation fo this group or the members.

For all you Blackpink fans, they will be on Running Man next week for their comeback promotion. Your welcome

She's a lot like Jihyo in her caring kindness and her leadership. But also in her competitiveness! Haha

Normally I like longer hair but Mako's current hairstyle is so great I think I prefer it more.

Haha So I'm like Mako, I've been eating raw grapefruit and other citrus fruit all my life. I've eaten an entire lemon too.

This is sad to hear. Because screen time was not distributed evenly through season 1, some of the members where practically never shown and therefore there audition, dance, and vocal assessments where not aired. This series shows all of the unaired clips that the members with the least screen time had such like Mayuka, her audition, dance and vocal assessments where not shown during season 1 (maybe they thought she wouldn’t make it) but all of it will be shown through here. 🔥

this girl is just absolutely fantastic, MY BIAS!!

JYP was CEO of the company from 1997 to 2011, but he stepped down in large part to get away from the distractions of operating a global business and to instead be able to remain closer to the artistic, creative side of things. Yeah, he's still "the boss" with his name on the building, but he embraces the role of a senior artist, writer, composer, producer, and choreographer, which really has a much more directly impactful role on the lives and development of the label's talent than calling the shots at a distance from the executive suite. So, really, this kind of hands-on mentorship is exactly the kind of thing he rearranged his role in the company to allow. He's not hands-on with everyone, and there are multiple different management divisions, each with their designated sets of artists, but he deliberately placed himself at their same level so that there could be that kind of easier availability and access.

Your callouts this episode inspired a proposal I want to give you for Throwback Thursday: How about a double-feature Throwback/Flash-forward Thursday, focused on JYP and Sunmi (the artist who sang "24 Hours," aka Mako's solo "floor" routine). Despite having left JYPE (the company) in 2016, she remained publicly very friendly with JYP (the person). You can start off with the original version of Wonder Girls' "Nobody" (2008; Miihi's solo song), which also stars JYP in an early comedic self-deprecating cameo, which has become a sort of signature (like his appearance in Twice' "Knock Knock" and NiziU's "Make You Happy"). https://youtu.be/BA7fdSkp8ds Then flash-forward to 2020. After a text exchange reminiscing about their time during the Wonder Girls US tour, JYP invited her to a duet with the '80s synth-disco-influenced "When We Disco." https://youtu.be/zrsBjYukE8s (IMO, though, while it was absolutely cool to see the reunion of this unabashedly retro-loving duo actually performing side-by-side, I had a bit of a struggle resolving the contrast of the relationship dynamics between their early days and this new video.)

Bro, I saw you holding back the tears this whole video. Nothing ever seemed to come out, but it must've gone SOMEWHERE since you kept refilling the reservoir from your Coldest Water (tm) bottle. In all serious, though, it really comes across how meaningful this group became to you, and how much you embraced them along their journey. I never get a sense of faking enthusiasm just for the camera from you, but you look even more so sincere here.

Anonymous

This is a Mako video but at 46 minutes JYP's face "...Mayuka can RAP?" And that's how it began. haha

Sunmi is my favorite artist of all so I'm down for anything involving her.

Unsalted Pecan

Does anyone know the best place to watch these with eng subs?

Thao_p

Only Mako, Rio and Maya have been subbed Rio: https://t.co/OOK17HHGQ0?amp=1 Maya: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12kE4b00qmJaM55IwHglSF8O1CUjqNrPO/view?usp=sharing Source: https://twitter.com/nizisubs?s=21 Because TooGrown watches these once a week hopefully the ep4 gets subbed🔥

Wow this show is great! And After watching the rest, maybe my bias will finally find me. Rio, Ayaka, Rima, and Mayuka are standing out so far... so I’m excited for Rio in the next one. Side note: I thought almost an hour long episode on one member was going to be overkill... but damn was I entertained.

Anonymous

Can't wait for Mayuka's story. We didn't get to see anything from her in season 1 until the last episode.
