I appreciate the concern many of you expressed yesterday about the fires raging in Northern Colorado. The fact is, I spent yesterday afternoon within a very fine hair of having to evacuate, as one of the fires reached within about 3 miles of me. In the end, shifting winds pushed it away, but it was a close call and the bags were packed.

I have friends and family who have had to evacuate, though no one I know has lost a home as yet. American Red Cross of Northern Colorado has been on the front lines offering food and shelter to the many people who have been burned out of their homes, if you're looking to make a difference for those who haven't been so lucky.

Above is a picture of the nearest fire to my area as of yesterday afternoon. It got worse later but needless to say, I was focused on other matters besides taking pictures.

Only time will tell how much will burn, but looking at the map, certain places I film at often like this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one might well already be ash.

Thank you again for your concern and support, and all the best for now,

Jackson Crawford

Oh my, that is terribly close. My heart goes out to all those affected. I have family in Colorado, but they have said they are not in imminent danger. My great-grandmother served in the American Red Cross Motor Corps during WWI and as a nurse during WWII. I know of the amazing work they do and yet I forget sometimes, until a crisis like this happens, that they are here… not only in times such as these, but always. It’s easy to take that for granted, but they can only be here as long as they have support. Your post has reminded me and I thank you for that. I want to support them in any way I can, and remembering and sharing are only two of those ways. Dr. Crawford, stay safe. Our thoughts are with you and all of Colorado.

I feel for you a lot my friend. I lived in the Napa area in California in 2017 and 2018 and had to evacuate before. Having the car constantly packed just in case. It was absolutely nerve wracking. The place I used to live actually burned down this summer. I’m glad you are safe, and you did not need to evacuate. I hope the smoke doesn’t get to you. It’s all quite difficult to bear.
