This one is for last week (a week that went so different from what I expected that I didn't get this up till today). Following on the daily life video, we take a look at some everyday verbs of everyday living in Old Norse.

I just had a strange thought: have you ever considered doing a video for YouTube in which you read something in Old Norse (or whatever) but like whispering for ASMR? I like hearing you talk normally, but the ASMR could be really something special. IDK but some of those "ASMRtists" have MILLIONS of views to their videos . . . just saying.

I don't know. People have mentioned that idea before and I still don't really understand what it is.

The best I know how to explain it is that ASMR videos are soothing and even sleep-inducing to the people who watch them. You would not even have to change much, even just softly-speaking is enough. Some people experience the ASMR (tingly feeling of relaxation just before sleep) merely from hearing someone talk; others get it from hearing the sound of someone tapping on an object (do you have something Old Norse related, like an artifact or text or reconstruction that you could hold and touch in a video?); still others react more to the sound of papers being rustled, as in book pages or a news clipping being turned over. What I could see you doing is just softly reading from, say, Havamal. It would probably help if you were in a quiet room and not outdoors this time. The microphone needs to be turned up so as to capture every little detail. You will know what I mean when you listen back to yourself speaking. I have made ASMR videos before and would wear my earbuds while I recorded so that I could hear how crisp and detailed the sounds were as I went along. It's definitely weird at first, but you get used to it. My own channel got very few views (but I went in a weird direction with mine, wearing a mask and stuff . . . no worries), but some of these folks are virtual megastars. I think you could perhaps be one of them. No pressure of course, but maybe just try it for one video and see how it goes. If nothing else, it would probably surprise and maybe even delight your current viewership. Call it a random one-off video. And one last thing I feel led to say: you should know that people already love you for who you are. It's the person you bring to the recording, not just the academic information, that captures peoples' attention. It's rare, it's why this Patreon even exists, and it's also why I think pretty much any video you attempt will be successful. Be confident.
