Andrea

When everybody's talking about S5 of Angel being a fave, I feel like this episode doesn't get talked about much, but I truly think it's not just one of the best episodes of the season, but also of the series. SO good, and so powerful in concept in execution, imo. Btw, Buffy's adventures continued in "Season 8" comics, which were written by Whedon for a while. That's where we see her and her team traveling through Europe, etc, rounding up and training their Slayer army and fighting new global threats and whatnot. I only read them for a while and found them to be somewhat of a mixed bag. They were deliberately much more "comic book-y" as a lot of the stuff they were doing were things that they could have never done on TV (Dawn became a giant, for example). There was some good Faith stuff in there, though. I too would be totally down for a sequel series with an older Buffy leading her Slayer team - I believe such a thing could absolutely be done without Whedon and his BTS toxicity, because Whedon employed a whole team of great creative talent that brought these shows to life (including Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, the writers of this episode who've built quite the impressive careers as writer/director/showrunners in their own right. They even both served as showrunners for Marvel's Daredevil series a decade after this). But I wouldn't want it without Sarah Michelle Gellar, and she does seem to be done with role for good, sadly.

Yeah, in order for Angel and Spike to stay likeable, the shows don't often go into detail about some of the more extreme stuff they did while soulless. There are however moments where they remind you that Vampires are monsters, and Angel and Spike were no exceptions to that. In regards to the children thing, Spike has made casual joking references to locking children in coal bins, as well as admitting that he knows exactly how much blood to drain from a girl so that she still cries. We've also seen Angelus turn kids into vampires, and jokingly refer to the babies he has eaten. Darla actually offers him a baby to bite as an ultimatum to prove he is still evil after he gets his soul back.

I dont think Sarah Michelle Gellar wants to reprise the role of Buffy. But if they do a show where Willow and Giles are teaching a group of young slayers and fighting evil I think it could work. They could even do it as a "School for Slayers" where some of the returning cast are the teachers with the feel of Wednesday would work too. As for this episode it's really solid. I love that this show is addressing the Buffy finale and showing that there were consequences to making all the potentials, actual Slayers. It was fun having Andrew back and it was a good update to what was happening to the characters from Buffy without doing a full episode about it. I think the show kind of copped by not having it actually be Spike that tortured Dana. I think it should have been. We know he's done tons of evil things. Next episode is the 100th episode of Angel. Quite a milestone.

An impactful episode and ending really builds on the "are we fighting from the inside or being swallowed whole" message the show has been pushing. This and the next episode are in my top five for the season.

Such a great episode. Idk if you realized later at some point, but the girl who plays the slayer in this episode also played Theresa in the OC.

I do like the idea of the spinoff for the slayers, but Angel and Spike are vampires, they can't age... David is now 53, and James is 60!! They can't pass for vampires that died in their 20s. I mean, I know we let a lot of things slide but I think that might be pushing it. 😆 Plus David said he'd never play Angel again unless it was a movie. There was actually talk about a Slayer School spin-off when BTVS ended. Marti Noxon wanted to do it with the new slayers and Willow, but Joss didn't like the idea and it was nixed quickly. Honestly, I don't want any spin-off now because it would still involve Joss. He's such a creep and while we suspected that because of rumors while Angel was airing, we didn't know much at the time; we didn't know all the BS he was pulling on these women, and the crap he was doing to his wife. It hits differently now. I will pass on anything new with his name attached.
