Love the character work in this episode. Jayne show his opportunistic side that has already been established. You mentioned when Mal first met him, but it was also shown in the story during Jaynestown when he pushed his partner out of the plane and in the first episode where he had the opportunity to sell them out to the undercover fed but "the money wasn't good enough" to betray Mal.
